Experience the highlights of Iceland & West Greenland on this combination tour. Marveloat volcanoes, ancient lava fields, thundering waterfalls and exploding hot springs in Iceland. Then explore the town of Ilulissat, West Greenland, located at the bay of the famous Ice fjord, where you will sail among crackling icebergs, and get up close to the astonishing Eqi glacier. Discover the different cultures of these two Arctic islands - so close, but yet so different and each so wonderfully unique.

Day 1 Arrival in Reykjavik                                                                                                                                       On arrival take the airport express bus to your hotel, for overnight in Reykjavík. The city centre is a small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping, dining and drinking. Reykjavík has recently established itself as a haven for food lovers, with numerous restaurants taking advantage of the abundance of local seafood, meat and game.

Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archaeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Day 2: Westman Islands: Waterfall - Lava Fields – Puffin Island – Magnificent lava fields.
The first stop today is at the lovely Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascading water for a very different perspective. Then travel along the farmlands of the south coast to Landeyjahofn harbour, to take the 30 minute ferry ride to the Westman Islands. The destination is Heimaey Island, the largest of the islands and the only inhabited one. Visit the island´s Storhofdi Point with its fantastic views over the area. From mid-May to the beginning of August it is also possible to see puffins here. Take a walk up to the crater of the volcano that erupted only three decades ago, and visit Eldheimar Museum and explore the flora growing in the new lava field. The afternoon at leisure to explore the island on your own. Overnight in the Westman Islands. 

Day 3 South Shore - Skogar – Vik: Powerful Volcanoes – Folk Museum – Black Sand Beaches
Take the ferry back from the Westman Islands and travel further on along the south shore, past numerous glacial rivers en route to Skogafoss waterfall. A famous folk museum is nearby, showcasing the buildings and daily life of Icelanders over past centuries.  Next travel to Thorvaldseyri Farm, located at the foot of the world famous Eyjafjallajokull volcano, that last erupted in the spring of 2010. A visitor's centre and exhibition tells the story of the eruption with a 20 minute film and displays about the spectacular natural disaster Continue on to the black sands of Reynisfjara beach, where you can witness the powerful waves and amazing basalt column features carved by the power of the sea. Dinner and overnight stay in Vik area for the next 2 nights.

Day 4 Vik – Skaftafell – Jokulsarlon: Skaftafell, Glaciers & Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs
Travel across Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on the face of the Earth, before reaching the small town of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, the former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. Head to Skaftafell National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Continue to the stunning Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon to see floating icebergs and maybe a curious seal or two. A boat trip takes you between the floating ice bergs.  Throughout the day, enjoy magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier.Dinner and overnight in Vik area.

Day 5 Gullfoss – Geysir – Thingvellir – Reykjavik: Geysers,  Golden Falls & National Park 
Today head for the Geysir hot spring area to see the famous Strokkur, a hot spring that spouts every few minutes. Travel onwards to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. The next stop is Thingvellir National Park, where the Viking-age parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland’s largest lake.  This is also where you can see the meeting point of the European and North American tectonic plates.  After some time to explore Thingvellir, head back to Reykjavik. for overnight.

Day 6 Reykjavík

Day 7 Reykjavik - Ilulissat
Make your own way to Reykjavik Domestic Airport in the morning and flight to Greenland. Arrive around noon at the picturesque town of Ilulissat, beautifully located at the mouth of a long Icefjord, filled with enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Meet your guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel. After check-in at the hotel enjoy a welcome meeting and briefing on Greenland. Then enjoy a walking tour in the centre of the town with a local guide, and learn about modern life close to the Arctic Circle. Return to the hotel for a welcome dinner. 

Day 8   Eqi Glacier Excursion
Morning pick up from your hotel for a day tour to the Eqi glacier. Very few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi glacier, thrusting out in a fjord north of Ilulissat. Sail to the very edge of the glacier’s frontline rising 80-90 metres above the surface of the ocean and enjoy lunch on board. Watch big chunks of heavy ice break off the glacier and tremble intensely into the water, enormous collisions, sight of icebergs shattering and not to mention the sound, is impressive. Afterwards drive back to the hotel where your evening is at leisure.

Day 9   Walk to Sermermiut Old Inuit Settlement
In the morning, walk to the remains of the old settlement Sermermiut, situated by the Ice-fjord. The walk is about 2 hours and is an easy one, partially on a timber boardwalk. Travel by bus as far as the road goes, then take the beautiful guided walk along the UNESCO World Heritage designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord to Sermermiut, where traces from three old Inuit cultures can still be found. Sermermiut is a fertile valley next to the Ice Fjord; here you can enjoy the flowers, as well as the fantastic icebergs and great photo opportunities! Light refreshments are included.The afternoon is free for you to relax- we recommend a visit to the small local museums. Or you can enjoy a range of optional activities, such as a boat tour viewing the icebergs or a helicopter flight across the ice-fjord. Farewell dinner at the hotel

Day 10   Ilulissat - Reykajvik
The morning is free for your own further explorations. Enjoy your final vistas of beautiful icebergs in the fjord or indulge in a little shopping for unique handicrafts such as tupilaks, the exquisitely carved bone souvenirs fashioned by local craftsmen. Afternoon transfer to the airport in Ilulissat and flight to Reykjavik, followed by an overnight stay in Reykjavík.

Day 11   Departure.
Arrangements end after your transfer to Keflavik Airport.
