Day 1 ARRIVE OSLO
Transfer from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation at Radisson BLU Plaza Hotel Oslo, centrally located close to the Karl Johan shopping boulevard.
Day 2 OSLO - ULVIK: VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS & WATERFALLS
After breakfast, visit the famous Viking Ship Museum. Then depart from Oslo, driving via Hønefoss along the charming Halling Valley to the tourist resort town of Geilo. Buffet lunch at Bardøla Mountain Hotel. After lunch, cross the wild Hardanger Mountain Plateau to Fossli, stopping to view the thundering Vøringsfoss Waterfall with a vertical drop of 180m, the highest in Norway. Dinner and accommodation at Brakanes Hotel, ideally located on the banks of the fjord.
Day 3 ULVIK - BERGEN: HARDANGER FJORD & A FASCINATING HANSEATIC TRADING CITY
After breakfast, descend amazing Mabodal Canyon to idyllic Hardanger Fjord and cross Hardanger Bridge. Start a scenic drive along the fjord, famous for its many orchards, via Øystese and Norheimsund towns. Arrive in Bergen around midday for lunch at a local restaurant, before a 2 hour, afternoon tour of Bergen. This will include a visit to the popular Fish and Flower Market, famous Bryggen Harbour with its gabled packhouses, and also the old Hanseatic Quarter. You will ride on the funicular to Mt. Fløien, for the best views of city and fjords way below. Accommodation at the First Hotel Marin, centrally located next to the old Bryggen harbour and close to the pedestrian shopping streets. (Please note dinner tonight is NOT included)
Day 4 BERGEN - FLÅM - BALESTRAND: JOURNEY ON THE FAMOUS FLAM RAILWAY
After breakfast, depart Bergen and drive via Dale to Voss town and board the beautiful Bergen Railway train, bound for Myrdal mountain station. From there, ride on the amazing Flåm Railway - a masterpiece of engineering which descends 2838 feet in less than 1 hour. The journey will take you to the fjordside village of Flåm, with many photo opportunities along the way of waterfalls and mountain scenery. After a short rest in Flåm, start an almost 2 hour cruise along narrow Aurlands and Nærøy Fjords, both branches of Sogn Fjord, the world's longest and deepest fjord. Enjoy spectacular cascading waterfalls, sheer mountain cliffs, snow-clad peaks and a variety of wildlife. Disembark in Gudvangen at the head of Nærøy Fjord and continue by coach through the amazing Stalheim Canyon and Nærøy Valley, across the Vika Mountains to Vangsnes, for a short ferry crossing to beautiful Balestrand. Accommodation and dinner at Kvikne’s Hotel, superbly located on the banks of the fjord and surrounded by mountains.
Day 5 BALESTRAND – A DAY IN THE FJORDS
A day at leisure in Balestrand gives you the opportunity to enjoy the outstanding beauty and nature of the fjords. Start with a traditional Norwegian buffet breakfast in the hotel’s elegant dining room as you decide how to spend your day. This morning, you may want to relax on the hotel terrace, breathing in the fresh mountain air and enjoying spectacular views. Or you may like to visit the local aquarium and art gallery, rent a bike or rowing boat from the hotel, or even go on foot up to the nearest mountains. A walking tour of Balestrand village, with its historic buildings and other noteworthy sites, can also be arranged. Dinner and 2nd night at Kvikne’s Hotel.
Day 6 BALESTRAND - GEIRANGER: JOSTEDAL & BRIKSDALGLACIERS, WATERFALLS & GEIRANGER FJORD
After breakfast, depart by ferry from Dragsvik to Hella, before a scenic tour along the northern side of Sogn Fjord. Continue by road to Fjaerland, passing under Jostedal Glacier (Europe's largest), then on to Skei Village at the northern end of Lake Jølster. Descend to beautiful Nord Fjord, making a detour at Olden to visit world-famous Briksdal Glacier. The journey up to the glacier will be made in open cars to give you the best views. Afterwards, a typical Norwegian lunch will be served in sight of the glacier. Afternoon and the tour continues via Loen and Stryn, to picturesque Hellesylt village. From here, by ferry for the 1 hour cruise along spectacular Geiranger Fjord, possibly the most impressive of all the Norwegian fjords. During the cruise, you will pass close to some magnificent waterfalls, such as the Bridal Veil and Seven Sisters. Dinner and accommodation at the excellent Union Hotel, overlooking Geiranger Fjord.
Day 7 GEIRANGER - OSLO: SERPENTINE ROAD, VALLEYS AND LAKES
From atop famous Serpentine Road, you have the opportunity to digest some amazing views of the fjord, before crossing the rugged Grotli Mountains to Lom, well known for its 14th Century stave church. The tour continues via Lake Vågå before descending magnificent Gudbrands Valley to lovely Lillehammer, where we stop for lunch. Afterwards, the journey continues alongside Lake Mjøsa, Norway’s largest lake, back to Oslo. Dinner and accommodation at Radisson BLU Plaza Hotel Oslo, centrally located close to the Karl Johan shopping boulevard.
Day 8 OSLO DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel, followed by transfer to Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
