Kangerlussuaq is the ideal base for your winter in Greenland adventure! Located 160km from the coast, with stable weather conditions & clear skies, it is one of the world’s top destinations for viewing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Surrounded by landscapes similar to the Ice Age, where Musk oxen & reindeer roam in front of huge glaciers, Kangerlussuaq also offers easy access to the vast Inland Ice Cap. There are lots of exciting activities included - a nature tour, 4WD Ice Cap exploration, city sightseeing & a hunt for the Northern Lights. There is also plenty of time for additional optional excursions such as dog-sledding and sightseeing flights.

Day 1 Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq
Flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. On arrival in Greenand, meet your local destination guide, and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Kangerlussuaq sits at the eastern end of a deep fjord  and is home to Greenland's most diverse land fauna, including musk oxen, caribou, and gyrfalcons. Then enjoy a 2.5 hour tour of the town to learn about it's history and the importance of the former American WWII Base "Bluie West 8".

Day 2  Kangerlussuaq: Arctic Nature Tour & Northern Lights Tour
This morning enjoy a fantastic 1.5 hour Arctic Nature Tour. Drive by minibus to an area where the world's biggest population of wild Musk oxen lives. These huge native mammals are famed for their long shaggy coats and are descended from ice age beasts. Experience the real arctic natural environment, where these amazing creatures and reindeer are often found. Afternoon at leisure.

In the evening, if the weather conditions allow, you will leave the town for a magical 2.5 hour Northern Lights Evening Tour. Kangerlussuaq is one of the best locations in the world to experience Aurora Borealis. We head out into the countryside where artificial light won't prevent us from seeing the spectacular Northern Lights (should they appear - remember it is all up to Mother Nature!) Your guide will tell you more about the phenomenon of the Northern Lights and the myths it has created throughout time. Delicious Greenlandic coffee is served during the evening.

Day 3  Kangerlussuaq: 4WD to the Inland Ice Cap
After breakfast you will leave your hotel for a 4-5 hour 4WD tour to the famous Inland Ice Cap, to see the impressive Arctic landscape of glacial valleys, mountains, frozen desert and rivers. We will stop for a close inspection of the Ice Cap and if weather conditions allow, you might be able to walk on this 3 million cubic km ice field.

Day 4  Kangerlussuaq: Optional Excursions or Day at Leisure
Day at leisure or try some great optional excursions which include a fasntastic Dog Sled Safari - travel like the Inuit over the icy ground with a pack of Greenlandic dogs on this 2-hour excursion. 2-3 persons share each sled, with the use of fur clothes and boots included and you can choose from 2 or 4 hour safaris. (Offered from mid January to March only).
