The Faroe Islands is an amazing destination. Traditions, fantastic landscapes and scenery, stories, customs, events and experiences are found all year round, in this islolated, unique island group. On this short introductory tour, explore from your base in Torshavn. You can add extra days to the tour - please enquire.

Day 1 Friday: Arrive Torshavn
Arrival from Copenhagen with Atlantic Airways to Vágar Airport, Faroe Islands and transfer from the airport to your hotel in Tórshavn. (You can also take the tour from/to any other cities on the Atlantic Airway route network, however if so days of departure and price may alter). Overnight in Torshavn.

Day 2  Saturday: Tórshavn: Day at Leisure
Day at leisure - explore the old part of Tórshavn, Tinganes & Reyn, with narrow alleys, and charming houses with grass roofs, then relax one of the many cafes. In the afternoon, perhaps visit Østrom, down by the end of the harbour, where you can see and buy contemporary Faroese art and fine craft. Back on the main street, have a closer look at the exquisite Faroese designed woollen wares and the latest fashions, at some of the great boutiques including 'Sirri'  and "Guðrun and Guðrun".  Wander past the cosy old bookstore and tourist office, and visit the art museum close to the park, where the permanent collection has a wide variety of Faroese art, showing how nature and landscape have been the dominant motifs throughout Faroese art history. You can also see the Nordic House, a Scandinavian culture centre, or the Art Museum and Gallery, with a wide range of more contemporary Faroese art.

Or from May to September you could take an optional trip by bus and boat to the Vestmanna Bird Cliffs. Sail through small inlets deep into the heart of grottoes, close to the 700 metre high cliffs. Overnight in Tórshavn.

Day 3 Sunday: Sandoy, the Saga Island and Kirkjubour (Summer) or Guided Countryside Tour (Winter)
If you are staying in summer (from May to August) today enjoy a locally guided tour to the Saga Island of Sandoy, one of the most unspoiled islands, where locals still maintain a traditional Faroese lifestyle. Your guide/driver will take you from Tórshavn over the mountain, to the ferry harbour at Gamlarætt, where you board the ferry to Sandoy. Once on board, there wonderful views of the islands of Hestur and Koltur. Your guide will entertain you with sagas from the island, and other interesting facts about Faroese life, as well as some captivating stories.  On Sandoy, visit the church, enjoy some fantastic scenic views, explore small villages and the cultural centre of Kirkjubour. Then return to Tórshavn by ferry and car, for overnight.

In winter, from September - April, today you will be picked up at a pre-arranged time from your accommodation, for a private sightseeing tour with a local Faroese driver/guide.  Seeing the Faroe Islands in winter's austere light and colour is a truly astonishing experience. The exact driving itinerary is dependant on wind and weather, so just sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenic views, while talking with your driver who will entertain you with information about the Faroe Islands and other good stories.  Return to Tórshavn for overnight.
