Svalbard or Spitsbergen means "the cold coasts" and was first mentioned in Icelandic texts in the 12th Century. It is a truly unique place of wild nature, glaciers & polar bears. Over 60% of Svalbard is a protected area, including 3 nature reserves, 6 national parks & 15 bird sanctuaries. Austfonna, the world's 3rd largest icecap, is here and has a glacier front of over 200 km. Explore this astonishing place over 5 great days, with fantastic day excursions from your comfortable hotel base.

Day 1 Arrival Longyearbyen
On arrival transfer to your hotel. Time at leisure- relax and enjoy the town. Perhaps visit the Svalbard Museum, the North Pole Expedition Museum and the Svalbard Kirke, or browse the shops for a unique souvenir. Accommodation at Basecamp Hotel with breakfast.

Day 2 Snowmobile Adventure
In winter the only way to get around in Spitsbergen is to travel by snowmobile! Today enjoy this fun and  exciting way to travel, just as the locals do, and experience the true arctic treasures around Templefjorden area. Enjoy the excitement of snowmobile driving and experience the arctic wildlife including seals, reindeer and polar bear. We hope, weather permitting, to reach the majestic glacier front of Von Post in Templefjorden. On the way back we will stop for a lunch break, and to listen to the arctic silence around us. Arrival back in Longyearbyen in the afternoon. No previous experience is necessary- your friendly and professional guides will assist you all the way. 2 persons usually share each snowmobile but you can drive solo for a supplement.

 Day 3 Snowshoe Walk
Today meet your guide at your hotel to be fitted with poles and snowshoes and learn the principles of snowshoeing, and to decide on today's route, depending on weather and local conditions- Longyearbreen, Larsbreen and Breinosa are some of the possible destinations. Along the way, enjoy hot drinks and the breathtaking silence. And there’s simply no better way to spot wildlife than padding quietly into snowy covered mountains.

Day 4 Dog Sled Adventure to the Ice Cave
The arctic wilderness offers wonderful experiences when you go for a ride with your own dog sled.  Transfer to the kennel outside town to rendezvous with some 4 legged friends, and after a safety briefing and driving instruction we set off! Once we start, the only noise you will hear is the whisper of the sled runners gliding over the ice and snow. Arriving at the glacier we take a closer look inside and explore the fantastic formations of ice and rocks shaped by nature’s own forces. Depending on the weather, we will have lunch either inside the cave, or outside enjoying the beautiful scenery. Then its back to  the husky kennel to say farewell to the dogs, before transferring back to Longyeabyen. 2 persons share the driving of each sled.
