Travel by train through the south of Sweden, from Stockholm to Gothenburg and on to Malmo, with a side trip to Ystad.

Day 1 Arrival Stockholm
On arrival in Stockholm, make your own way to your hotel. Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands, and connected by 57 bridges. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions, most of which can be reached on foot. Accommodation at Hotell Kung Carl, or similar.

Day 2 Stockholm  Day To Explore
The day is free to enjoy the many city sights. Perhaps take a canal cruise, or a visit to the Vasa Museum. The impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961; she has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging. Also visit the famous old town, Gamla Stan, and enjoy sitting in the many bars, cafes and restaurants to watch the passing parade. Overnight at Hotell Kung Carl, or similar.

Day 3 Stockholm - Gothenburg
Today make your own way to the railway station, for the train to Gothenburg, which takes approximately 3 hours and passes through the pleasant countryside of southern Sweden. On arrival in Gothenburg, make your own way to your hotel. Gothenburg offers a variety of great attractions including beautiful flourishing gardens, many historic sites and buildings, lovely old churches and magnificent museums, where you can see works by world famous artists. The nearby archipelago of Gothenburg stretches along the coast from the city, so you don't have to travel far to find charming villages, stunning nature and beaches. Seal safaris, sea-fishing and boat excursions are just some of the activities available here. Accommodation at Clarion Hotel Post, or similar.

Day 4 Gothenburg  Day at Leisure
Today continue your exploration of the city. Gothenburg has some unique industrial museums such as the Radio Museum, the Tram and Tramways Museum, and the Remfabik Museum, a fascinating, well preserved transmission factory dating from the 1930's. The city also has a strong maritime heritage - visit the floating maritime centre Maritiman, with an armada of 19 museum vessels, to see U-boats, destroyers, mine-layers and fireboats. There is also the Goteborg Ship, the world's larget sailing ship. Or take a boat cruise to the 17th century New Älvsborg Fortress, visit the Botanical Garden with it's Rhododendron Valley, Japanese Glade and Rock Garden. And don't forget a visit to the Gothenburg Museum of Art, which houses collections from the 15th century to today, with a Nordic emphasis. Accommodation at Clarion Hotel Post, or similar.

Day 5 Gothenburg - Malmö
This morning make your own way to the railway station, for the 3 hour train ride along the west coast to Malmö, a charming city which in recent years has developed into an exciting place, with a strong focus on cultural offerings and innovative architecture.  In 2006 Malmö was certified as Sweden’s first Fairtrade City and this has encouraged organic and fair trade offerings, so you can shop with a clear conscience and enjoy ethically produced food and drink. Perhaps pay a visit to Malmöhus Castle with it's unique collection, or take time to just enjoy the atmosphere of this historic city. Accommodation at Clarion Hotel Live, or similar.

Day 6 Malmö  Day at Leisure
Today continue your exploration of Malmo. Or enjoy a side trip to Ystad, a 50 minute train ride away. Only a few cities in Scandinavia and Europe boast such a complete and ‘living’ picture of bygone days as Ystad. Many of the 300 half-timbered houses and other buildings are filled with restaurants and shops and the picturesque corners are alive with surprises and bargains. Return to Malmo for the night. Accommodation at Clarion Hotel Live, or similar.
