Extra nights in Bergen, Trondheim and / or Oslo can be added - please ask us. The tour can also be done in reverse from Oslo to Bergen - see our tour Fjord Cities Oslo - Bergen.

Day 1 Bergen Arrival
On arrival in Bergen make your own way to your hotel. Bergen is a lively city beautifully situated on the fjord & surrounded by 7 mountains, with a long history as a Hanseatic trading port. Walk along Bryygen, the historic old wharf area with timbered houses, formerly the homes and warehouses of wealthy merchants, explore the fish and flowers markets and enjoy a meal in one of the many cafes and restaurants of this lovely historic Hanseatic town. And make sure you take the funicular ride up to Mt Fløien for a panoramic view of Bergen and its surroundings. 1 night in Bergen.

Day 2 Bergen: Day at Leisure then Evening Departure onboard the Hurtigruten Ferry
Today there is time to further explore Bergen. This evening, make your own way to the pier, to board  the ferry for your cruise to Trondheim. The ferry departs at 20:00hrs. 2 nights onboard in an unspecified standard outside cabin with private facilities, including breakfast.

Day 3: Hurtigruten On the way to Trondheim
Make sure you get up early this morning to admire the breathtaking beauty of the Nordfjord as your ferry sails past the West Cape. Today there are some great optional excursions to choose from as follows:

Art Nouveau Walk 2hrs Winter, Spring & Summer: Learn the intriguing story behind the Art Nouveau architecture in Ålesund, on this guided walk through the city. Distinguished by its numerous spires, towers and highly detailed ornamentation, Ålesund is a town renowned across the world for its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture. It owes this to the devastating fire which burned a large proportion of the city to the ground in 1904, following which the entire town was rebuilt in the fashionable style of the time, Art Nouveau. Your trip around Ålesund will begin on the pier, where you will be met by a guide who will take you on a pleasant walk through the streets of this enchanting town. Along the way you will pass the picturesque fishing port of Brosundet, the special Apotekertorget square, and the beautifully decorated main street. We will also visit Jugendstilsenteret, the national centre for Art Nouveau. The museum offers everything from modern multimedia presentations to original interiors, and provides a fascinating insight into the history of Art Nouveau.

Geiranger and Trollstigen Pass 7.5hrs Summer: Get closer to UNESCO listed Geirangerfjord on this excursion, which begins with a drive up Ørneveien (Eagle Road), enjoying magnificent views of the fjord en route to the beautiful Eidsdalsvatnet Lake. From there you take a picturesque ferry ride from Eidsdal to Linge. Back on dry land, head for the stark, wild, high-alpine areas, stopping en route for photos at the impressive Gudbrandsjuvet (Gudbrands Gorge). One of the many highlights of this trip is the series of 11 hairpin bends down the winding Trollstigen Pass. Once you’ve reached the bottom, it’s time for a hot drink and a bite to eat before you continue to the gentler landscape of the Romsdalsfjord. Your excursion concludes with dinner in Molde before re-joining the ferry (please note the landing for this excursion is by tender boat, which may be difficult for people with impaired mobility).

Guided mountain hike in the Hjørundfjord 2hrs 45mins Autumn:  The hike starts on a farm road and then continues along a narrow path, then continues with a steep climb on stone steps. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with a stunning view. If you follow the path up the hill, you can also see Sæbo, located on the other side of the fjord. Enjoy a coffee break in the Leknes valley, overlooking the village Urke, the fjord arm extending into Øye and the beautiful mountains, before descending and returning to the vessel.

Taste of Norway 2hrs 15 mins Autumn: Enjoy “a taste of Norway” and see places that have fascinated visitors for centuries. The trip takes you through Norangsdalen, before we explore Urke and the historic Hotel Union Øye, where you will taste local specialties. We arrive in Hjørundfjord where a tender boat takes you to the tiny village of Urke. We continue by bus through what is often referred to as Norway’s narrowest valley, Norangsdalen. Enjoy several breaks during the trip, one of them at a lake known as Lyngstølvatnet. Here you can see sites of ancient settlements in the water, which was naturally dammed in 1908 after a large landslide. We will also visit the historic Hotel Union Øye, which has played an important role in Norwegian history. Here you can taste local specialties. Next, return to Urke, for a short visit and some free time, before returning by tender to our vessel. (please note the landing for this excursion is by tender boat, which may be difficult for people with impaired mobility)

Day 4: Trondheim Arrival
This morning arrive in Trondheim, disembark and make your own way to your hotel.  Discover the sights of this Medieval city, including the magnificent Niadros Cathedral, and Bakklandet, an idyllic neighborhood full of history and culture. 1 night in Trondheim.

Day 5 Trondheim - Oslo By Train
This morning make your own way from your hotel to the Trondheim Railway Station, to board the Dovrebanen train bound for Oslo. From Trondheim the train runs along the Gaula, a river teeming with salmon. There is a sharp incline as the train passes the mountain slopes of Oppdal through Drivdalen. The train then passes the Dovrefjell mountains famous for musk oxen, myths and trolls and the Gudbrandsdalen valley with its cultural treasures, then continues via Lillehammer, before reaching Oslo.

On arrival in Oslo, make your own way to your hotel and time at leisure. Oslo is a Viking city, set amongst rolling green hills at the northernmost point of the 100 km long Oslo Fjord. Enjoy some of Oslo's fine museums including the Viking Ship Museum, the Fram Polar Expedition museum, the Kon Tiki Museum and Vigelund Sculpture Park. Also take a stroll through the old wharf area of Bryggen, now bustling with bars and cafes.  Visit the Munch Museum, the Maritime Museum and Akershus Fortress. 1 night in Oslo.
