The Faroe islands is perfectly suited for hiking and walking. Get close to the untamed natural environment, and to birdlife with their beautiful songs; see colourful villages, beautiful fjords, and high mountains; and breathe clean air as you view the nearby islands rising majestically on the horizon. On this great tour you are based in Torshavn, from where you will enjoy a series of fabulous guided hikes, in some of the most stunning scenery on earth.

A rental car is also included, so you can spend your spare time exploring further on your own!

Day 1 Copenhagen* - Vagar
Make your own way to Copenhagen airport for your flight to the Faroe Islands. On arrival at Vágar Airport  transfer to pick up your rental car and drive to the village of Gásadalur, which was the last village connected to be the rest of the islands by tunnel. From here you can walk out on marked nature trails and enjoy the impressive view over Tindhólmur. Also don’t miss the beautiful waterfall that runs into the ocean. Overnight on Vágar.

Day 2 Vagar - Mykines Island - Torshavn
Today drive to the harbour in Sørvágur and park your car, then take the ferry across to the island - an impressive sailing trip alongside the majestic sea cliffs. On the island, meet your local guide at the wharf and take a walking tour of the island- you will see charming puffins with their colourful red beaks, and striking gannets that only breed on Mykines. Cross a footbridge over the Atlantic Ocean to reach the holm and lighthouse. Once back in the village, farewell your guide and perhaps visit one of the local cafés. On your return to Sørvágur, collect your car and drive on to Tórshavn, where you will stay for the next 6 nights.

Day 3 Torshavn: Hike from Tjornuvik and Saksun
From Torshavn take the local bus to the picturesque village of Tjornuvik, where your guided hike begins. Tjornuvik is surrounded by steep mountains and offers a fantastic view of the impressive rock formations The Giant and the Witch, and Slættaratindur and Gráfelli, the two highest mountains in the Faroe Islands. Hike to Tjørnuvíksskarð and then down to the village of Saksun, for fantastic views of the beautiful lagoon surrounded by sand in the fjord. In Saksun the bay used to be a protected natural harbour, but today the entrance to the bay is blocked by sand, so at low tide you can walk along the sand out to the ocean. At the end of the hike return to Tórshavn.

Day 4 Torshavn: Hiking to the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur.
From Torshavn take the local bus to the mountain pass of Eiðisskarð, where your guided hike starts.  Slættaratindur, at 882m, is a must to hike, as it is the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands. When you reach the top, the view of the islands is nothing less than spectacular, as mountain peaks surround you - an experience for life! At the end of the hike return to Tórshavn.

Day 5 Torshavn: Hike to Hvannhagi, on the island of Suðuroy.
From Tórshavn take the ferry to the island of Suðuroy. En route, you pass the islands of Sandoy, Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun. On arrival at Suðuroy, meet your guide and start your hike. Because of its location, Hvannhagi has some of the most beautiful and unusual nature on Suðuroy, which you will enjoy as you follow an old path across the mountain. When you reach the northern side of Suðuroy, there are amazing views of the two small islands, Lítla Dímun and Stóra Dímun. Following a steep, narrow path, you then descend to the inland lake at Hvannhagi. Then return to the wharf, to take the ferry back to Torshavn.

Day 6 Torshavn: Hiking the old postal route to Gásadalur
From Torshavn take the local bus to the island of Vágar, where your guided hike today begins. We follow the old village path that was used by the postman until 2006, up the mountain for a fantastic view over the village of Gásadalur- one of the most isolated until it was connected by tunnel in 2004 . The first stretch of the path is steep and runs close to the edge of the mountain, so you get an outstanding view of Sørvágsfjørður, Tindhólmur and Mykines. At the end of the hike return to Tórshavn.

Day 7 Torshavn: Day at leisure
Explore the old part of Tórshavn, Tinganes & Reyn, with narrow alleys, and charming houses with grass roofs, then relax one of the many cafes. In the afternoon, perhaps visit Østrom, down by the end of the harbour, where you can see and buy contemporary Faroese art and fine craft. Back on the main street, have a closer look at the exquisite Faroese designed woollen wares and the latest fashions, at some of the great boutiques including "Sirri"  and "Guðrun and Guðrun".  Wander past the cosy old bookstore and tourist office, and visit the art museum close to the park, where the permanent collection has a wide variety of Faroese art, showing how nature and landscape have been the dominant motifs throughout Faroese art history. You can also see the Nordic House, a Scandinavian culture centre, or the Art Museum and Gallery, with a wide range of more contemporary Faroese art.
