Thsi tour combines Iceland's dramatic Viking history with South Greenland's history and heritage, celebrating  UNESCO listed sites at both destinations. The tour starts in Reykjavik, Iceland, the most northern capital city in the world and an exciting blend of past and present. Explore the city plus the geothermal wonders of Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir, before travelling to Narsarsuaq, Greenland, meaning ‘great plain’. Formerly a US airbase, it is now a small settlement with a huge diversity of experiences from iceberg cruises, to easy hikes in a nearby valley or perhaps a trek to the Inland Ice Cap. The area around Narsarsuaq is also Viking country and there are numerous ancient remains from these early settlers. The tour then finishes back in Reykjavik.

Day 1 Iceland Arrival
Arrival at Keflavik Airport and meet your driver for the transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik. If your flight arrival time allows, transfer to the hotel via the nearby goethermal area of Krysuvik, one of the most amazing landscapes in Iceland. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2 City Sightseeing and Afternoon at Leisure.
Breakfast at the hotel then a morning city sightseeing tour of Reykjavik, including the town of Hafnarfjordur where we visit the Fish Market, the open air museum Arbær, one of the outdoor swimming pools and the towering Hallgrim's Church. We also pass through the old town, past the harbour, the summit-meeting house Höfdi and the House of Parliament.

The afternoon is at leisure in Reykjavik. The city centre is a small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping, dining and drinking. Reykjavík has recently established itself as a haven for food lovers, with numerous restaurants taking advantage of the abundance of local seafood, meat and game. Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archaeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Day 3 Golden Circle: Gulfoss Waterfall, Geysir Hot Springs and Thingvellir
Today's excursion is one of the best day trips in Iceland: The Golden Circle where you will experience the majestic waterfall at Gullfoss, the erupting hot springs at Geysir, the fantastic national park of Thingvellir, and finally the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi.  Enjoy dinner tonight with an Icelandic seafood buffet at Restaurant Reykjavik, one of the city's oldest establishments.

Day 4 Blue Lagoon then Reykjavik - Narsarsuaq, Greenland
Today end your Iceland introduction with a visit to the world famous geothermal Blue Lagoon, where you can bathe in the warm, aquamarine waters. Then transfer to the airport for the evening flight to Narsarsuaq. On arrival, meet your local guide, transfer to the hotel for check-in, an information meeting. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Days 5 and 6 Narsarsuaq: Days at Leisure
Start with a guided town walk this morning then the rest of today and tomorrow there is time for you to explore Narsarsuaq or to take one of the great guided optional excursions offered as follows:

Qooroq Ice Fjord and Glacier: The Greenland Ice Cap produces 250 millions tonnes of ice every year, when icebergs break off the glaciers. Close to Narsarsuaq, the Qooroq Glacier fills the fjord with beautiful icebergs. We cruise between these icebergs and go as close to the calving glacier as possible. Here, we turn off the engine to enjoy a silence only disturbed by the creaking of the ice. Light refreshments are included.

Viking Ruins of Erik the Red:  We cross Erik's Fjord by boat and go ashore at the sheep breeding settlement of Qassiarsuk, situated on the very spot where Erik the Red settled in 985 AD and named his farm "Brattahlið". We visit the ruins of Erik's farm and Thorhildur's church, the first Christian church on the continent.

Tasiusaq & Kayaking: Transfer in RIB boats from Narsarsuaq to Qassiarsuk. Visit the Viking ruins here, followed by 4WD trip to Tasiusaq, where 7 people live in almost complete isolation near Sermilik Fjord. Lunch in Tasiusaq is included, then there’s free time to explore. In the afternoon, enjoy a 2 hour sea kayak excursion in the Iceberg Bay, paddling among icebergs in one of the safest places in Greenland (suitable for beginners). 8hrs

The Village of Igaliku: Transfer by boat through the ice-filled Eric's Fjord to Itilleq, where we go ashore next to some of the biggest agricultural fields in South Greenland. Walk for 3 km (transport can be arranged at a surcharge) to Igaliku - a beautiful village where ruins of the Vikings' Cathedral and the Bishop's farm are situated. After lunch, we walk through the village back to Itilleq, then go by boat back to Narsarsuaq. 8hrs

Short Hike to the Ridge: By bus to the beginning of the ridge, for a great variety of flowers and plants. Then hike to the top for an amazing view over Flower Valley, the river, fjord and Narsarsuaq Glacier. 3hrs

Hike to the Ice Cap: Suitable for those who can walk at least 6km in mountain terrain. By bus as far as the road goes, then continue by foot through the Flower Valley, where colourful sub-arctic flora may be seen. Lunch at the top of a 300m high mountain, with a fantastic view over the glacier and Ice Cap. For participants in good physical shape, it may be possible to walk down and touch the Ice Cap. 8hrs

On Day 6 enjoy dinner at the hotel.
