This tour offers a range of more active excursions during Winter from your base in Reykjavik. These include a 3-3.5 hour guided walk on Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Enjoy a Golden Circle tour in a 4WD Super Jeep stopping at Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal area. Also drive a snowmobile on Langjökull glacier and walk inside Vatnshellir lava tube cave in Snæfellsjökull National Park.

Day 1 Reykjavik Arrival
Arrival Reykjavik and transfer to your hotel. Time at leisure.

The city centre is a small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping and dining. Reykjavík has recently established itself as a haven for food lovers, with numerous restaurants taking advantage of the abundance of local seafood, meat and game.

Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archaeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Tonight, perhaps take an optional tour and search for the Northern Lights by boat or bus.

Day 2 Take a Walk on the Ice Side – 10 hours
Outside Reykjavik is the great Eyjafjallajökull glacier and where Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends all the way down from Myrdalsjökull, Iceland's 4th largest glacier. This easy, 3-3.5hr, glacier hike is an exciting way to experience Icelandic nature. Crampons are provided so that you can walk up to an ice field wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and crevasses. During the return drive, we make a stop at the striking Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Minimum age 10 years.

Day 3 Golden Circle Super Jeep Tour – 10 hours
Experience the fantastic Golden Circle by 4WD Super Jeep! These specially modified vehicles can traverse off-road tracks and mountain roads, for great views your surrounding landscapes. First stop is Þingvellir National Park, where the first parliament was founded (930 AD). Onwards to Gullfoss, a great waterall with two tiers, before continuing along mountain tracks to geothermal, Geysir hot spring area. Then it's time for an exciting 1 hour snowmobile ride on Langjökull, Iceland’s 2nd largest glacier. 2 persons per snowmobile. Solo drover supplement applies. Drivers must produce a valid driver's licence. Minimum age 6 years.

Day 4 Snaefellsnes National Park – 11 hours
Beautiful Snaefellsnes Peninsula on Iceland's west side, is often described as a microcosm of Iceland. Enjoy the scenic route to Borgarfjörður and a short stop at Borgarnes village. On to Arnarstapi for a walk along the shore to tiny Hellnar. Continue to Vatnshellir lava tube cave in Snæfellsjökull National Park, close to where Jules Verne located his entrance for the Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Exploring Vatnshellir you will descend into a subterranean world of stalactites, stalagmites and strange lava forms that in the glow of your headlight, form eerie shapes and shadows as they flicker across the cave walls. Later, travel to Djúpalónssandur's tranquil, black-pebbled beach with beautiful views out to sea as well as some fascinating history. Lastly, we travel past striking landscapes to the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula and the fishing village of Grundarfjordur, where you see the symmetrical mountain Kirkjufell towering 1500ft from the coast.
