From your base in Reykjavik, enjoy some fantastic, easy day excursions, showing you the highlights of Iceland's wonderful natural environment and culture. Explore the magnificent South Coast, with stops at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss Waterfalls; visit the popular Golden Circle sights of Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area; and enjoy the beauty of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Extra nights and excursions can be added. In winter, add a Hunt for the Northern Lights. Or if you prefer a stay with more active excursions, take a look at our Adventure in Iceland tour.

Day 1 Reykjavik Arrival
Arrival at Keflavik Airport and take the coach transfer to your hotel. Time at leisure - the city centre is a small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping and dining. Recently established as a haven for food lovers, numerous restaurants take advantage of the abundance of local seafood, meat and game.

There are also many wonderful museums including the National Museum, with artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture. Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum is an archaeological museum based around a 10thC Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001. You may also like the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Day 2 Golden Circle Tour
Explore the fabulous highlights on the famed Golden Circle route. Drive around Southern Iceland's fertile farming area and visit one of the most magnificent waterfalls in all of Iceland, Gullfoss. Onwards to the erupting hot springs in Geysir area, before arriving at beautiful Þingvellir National Park. Here, the world's oldest parliament was founded in the year 930AD and the European and American tectonic plates almost meet in a spectacular setting.

Day 3 South Coast, Waterfalls and Black Sand Beaches
Travel through south Iceland’s farming land to the black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, powerful volcanoes and majestic glaciers of the South Coast. First stop is Skógarfoss, a picturesque waterfall thundering down the slopes of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Then onwards for a leisurely stroll along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, with stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves. Offshore you will see the Reynisdrangar pillars, basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea. Then on to Seljalandsfoss waterfall to walk behind this magnificent wall of water. On a clear day you will have a fantastic view of Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes and the Westman Islands.

Day 4 Snaefellnes Peninsula Exploration
The beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula on Iceland’s west side is a microcosm of Iceland. Travel the scenic route to Borgarfjörður to the villages of Borgarnes,  Arnarstapi and Hellnar, then on to the Vatnshellir lava tube cave, where you will be immersed in a subterranean world of stalactites, stalagmites, and strange lava formations, with eerie shapes and shadows. Next stop is Djúpalónssandur, a tranquil, black-pebbled beach that offers beautiful views. From Djúpalónssandur, travel past striking landscapes to Grundarfjordur fishing village, surrounded by exceptionally beautiful mountains. Finally stop at the Gerðuberg columnar basalt cliff in Hnappadalur valley, before heading back to Reykjavik.
