Open your senses and travel to the land of the Midnight Sun and Sapmi - the land of indigenous Sami people. Enjoy dramatic and beautiful landscapes, learn about the people, handicrafts and history of the Sami, as well as their unique way of life and ancient traditions that are still practised to this day. The trip begins in Ostersund and ends in Mora, visiting Arjeplog and Jokkmokk over 8 leisurely days.

Day 1   Östersund Arrival
Your tour begins with an overnight stay in Östersund. Beautifully located by lake Storsjön, it is home to a famous lake monster.

Day 2   Östersund Day at Leisure
Delight in a whole day of new experiences and Sami culture. You may like to visit the Tourist Information Centre and Gaupa handcrafts shop. In the afternoon, meet your guide who will take you on a food walk in the Restaurant Quarter and tell you about Swedish feast and publife. Enjoy tastings in five different restaurants, including cheese and chocolate. Overnight in Östersund. 

Day 3   Östersund-Arjeplog
The journey continues north past Ströms Vattudal, as you look out over the extensive forests, plus lakes that teem with fish. Inlandsbanan now enters Sweden’s largest province, Lapland. In Slagnäs, onwards by coach to Båtsuoj Sami Centre, to experience authentic Sami life with all of your senses. A Sami meal is served in a traditional Sami hut as you listen to a storyteller. From Båtsuoj by bus to Arjeplog, where the Sami heritage is well reflected. This is one of Sweden's smallest communities, in relation to the number of inhabitants.

Day 4   Arjeplog-Jokkmokk
Start with a short walk around the centre of Arjeplog, as you hear the story of the village today, alogn with some historical glimpses. After that you will visit the Silver Museum, where the Sami silver is glimmering in the Silver Hall’s blue vault. Lunch is included. Travel back to Inlandsbanan via Galtispuoda mountain where, on a clear day, you can see for 140km and 360 degrees. The views are magnificent and a camera is highly recommended. Shortly before reaching Jokkmokk, you will cross the Arctic Circle, bordering the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Day 5   Jokkmokk–Gällivare
Spend most of the day in Jokkmokk, where you may like to visit local attractions such as a 'taste performance'. Experience the guide’s emotional attachment to Lapland through stories, songs and pictures, and also taste a variety of local food. Afterwards, we go to Swedish Mountain and the Sami Museum Ájtte (entry included) and Jokkmokk Alpine Garden, where you can gain a further insight into mountain flora. Evening continuance of your journey through the National Park and World Heritage Site, Laponia. In Gällivare, a guided tour is included this evening. Until 30 July, you will visit Dundret summit to enjoy the most astounding views in the light, summer night. From 01 August onwards, an exhibition about the World Heritage Site Laponia, instead.

Day 6   Gällivare Day at Leisure
Day at leisure in Gällivare. Feel free to discover more of the area’s rich heritage and beautiful nature. You may like to visit Europe’s largest copper mine Aitik, or possibly hike near Dundret mountain.

Day 7   Gällivare–Östersund
After an early breakfast, the journey returns southwards to Östersund. 

Day 8   Östersund–Mora
Your Inlandsbanan journey concludes in Mora.
