This independent tour allows you to explore the 4 major Scandinavian cities on your own. Travel from Helsinki to Stockholm, then on to Copenhagen and Oslo, by train and overnight ferry. Extra nights can be added in any of the cities, and you can do the tour in reverse.

You can also add a visit to the Norwegian Fjords after Oslo - see our Norway in a Nutshell and Fjords and Glaciers tours, and others. Please ask us.

Day 1 Helsinki Arrival
On arrival in Helsinki make your own way to your hotel. Helsinki is truly located at the crossroads of Western and Eastern culture and this is reflected everywhere in this green and lively small city. Helsinki was founded in 1550 by the Swedish King Gustav Vasa, as a trading post to compete with Tallinn, to the south. In the beginning of the 19th century Finland became part of Russia, and Tsar Alexander I made Helsinki the capital in 1812. Visit the many parks, museums and churches, and charming Suomenlinna Fortress, since 1991 on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, as a unique monument to European military architecture. Also explore City Hall, Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral, the Parliament Building and Finlandia Hall, Temppeliaukio Church (the Rock Church) and the Sibelius Monument.Overnight in Helsinki.

Day 2 Helsinki - Stockholm Overnight Cruise
Time at leisure today before making your own way in the afternoon to the pier, for embarkation on your overnight cruise to Stockholm, departing at 17.00. There are restaurants and plenty of entertainment on board. Overnight in 2 berth inside cabin with private facilities.

Day 3 Stockholm Arrival
Arrive in Stockholm at around 09.30hrs, then make your own way to your hotel. Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges - historic buildings, green parks, fresh air and a maritime feeling are distinctive traits of the city. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions. Visit the Vasa Museum - the impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961; she has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging. Also walk the charming streets of the famous old town, Gamla Stan, and enjoy sitting in the many bars, cafes and restaurants, to watch the passing parade. Or indulge in some Nordic shopping in the many boutiques and designer shops. Overnight in Stockholm.

Day 4 Stockholm - Copenhagen By Train
Today make your own way to the railway station for the train to Copenhagen. The capital city of Denmark since 1417, Copenhagen is one of Europe's most historic capitals with a royal touch - the monarchy is the oldest in the world. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance in the city centre. Visit  the Tivoli Gardens in summer, the Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also enjoy the pedestrian shopping street of Strøget and it's surroundings. Copenhagen is a place where old fairytales blend with innovative new architecture and world class design; it is also one of the world's most environmentally friendly cities and one of the best cycling destinations.  Overnight in Copenhagen.

Day 5 Copenhagen - Oslo Overnight Ferry
The morning is free in Copenhagen for shopping or more sightseeing. In the afternoon, make your own way to the ferry terminal for your overnight cruise to Oslo, departing at approximately 16.30hrs. Cruise gently up the Kattegat Straits, on your way to Oslo. There is dancing and entertainment on board, or you may prefer to sit out on deck and watch the sunset. Overnight in 2 berth inside cabin with private facilities, including breakfast.

Day 6 Oslo Arrival
Breakfast is served on board, as you sail up the lovely Oslo Fjord to reach the Norwegian capital, arriving at approximately 09.30hrs. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel.  Perhaps visit the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, the Munch Museum, or the Maritime Museum. Make sure you stroll along the old Bryygen wharf area, now a bustling hub of outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants. Overnight in Oslo.
