The ultimate arctic experience!

Day 1 Tromso Arrival and Evening Northern Lights Chase
Arrive at Tromsø airport and take the taxi transfer to your hotel. Time at leisure - this university town has a lively atmosphere and friendly locals. Perhaps visit the Arctic Cathedral for it’s daring architecture, the Polaria Aquarium (don’t miss the Northern Lights & Spitsbergen Arctic Wilderness films), the Polar Museum to learn about the role Tromsø has played in Arctic exploration, and the MS Polstjerna, a well preserved sailing vessel from 1949. This evening at 18.30, meet up outside the Radisson BLU Hotel for your Northern Lights Chase. Being located in the middle of the northern lights belt, Tromso offers some of the highest levels of northern lights activity on earth. With your local guide, you will go to the places considered to be the best for the night, depending on the weather. You might go to the coast, or deep into the wild, perhaps even to the Finnish border. At the conclusion of the tour, you will be dropped back in Trosmo centre. Overnight and breakfast at the Scandic Ishavshotell, or similar.

Day 2 Wilderness Camp : Husky Safari and Snowmobile Adventure: Overnight in Wildernes Camp
This morning after breakfast meet outside the hotel at 8:45 for the transfer to the beautiful Lyngen area, for some great fun winter activities and an overnight stay at a wilderness camp. On arrival at the camp, get ready for your dog sledding experience! This adventure starts with meeting the dogs and helping to prepare them for the trip. After a safety briefing and driving instructions, start out into the white landscapes, travelling through the beautiful Vass Valley. The trails you follow cover a total distance of approximately 15 km, in an area that is totally uninhabited, with mountains and forest landscape. You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each sled, with the opportunity to switch places half way. At the end of the sled ride, return to camp for a hot lunch, served in a lavvu or Sami herdsmen’s tent.

At around 18:00 hrs, your Snowmobile Safari begins. You need no previous skills to enjoy snowmobiling- all you need is normal, good physical condition, and a valid driver's license.  We begin with a thorough safety introduction, then it is time to start the engines! The trail has a distance of 15 km each way; the starting point is at 250m above sea level, and you will gradually reach 875 m. You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to switch places during the trip. Due to the dramatic topography, a reduced speed is held during parts of the tour, but when you reach the top point of the trail there is a frozen lake, where you can really speed up. If time and weather permit, you can also try out ice fishing on the lake. At the end of the trip, return to the camp for a hot dinner.  Then spend the night at the camp - an Arctic experience in itself. You will sleep soundly in a shared lavvu (tepee) or a shared cabin heated by a wood stove. The wilderness camp is comfortable, but does not have electricity or running water. There is a service building with toilets and showers a few steps away from your accommodation.

Day 3 Reindeer Sledding and Board the Coastal Ferry
After breakfast, its time to go reindeer sledding, the oldest form of transport in the north, and an ancient part of Sami culture. You will be driving in pairs, with one reindeer for each sled, and as well as the sleigh ride you will get to try lasso-throwing, the way the Sami people still today catch their reindeer today, and learn about Sami culture and history. At around 16:00 hrs, transfer back to Tromso for check in to the Hurigruten coastal ferry, which departs at around 18.30 hrs. Overnight onboard.

Day 4 Honningsvåg and the North Cape
Enjoy breakfast onboard. Your day starts by sailing through Magerøysund before an early stop in Hammerfest. Then after a brief stop in Havøysund,  you arrive in Honningsvåg, the gateway to the spectacular North Cape. From the ferry, enjoy a bus excursion to the North Cape Plateau, where you get an eerie sense of being at the end of the world. As well as being continental Europe’s northernmost point, this area is also known for its specacular setting. Overnight onboard.

Day 5 Kirkenes Disembarkation; King Crab Safari and SnowHotel.
This morning you reach Kirkenes - here, at longitude 30°E, you are actually further east than Istanbul and St. Petersburg! Disembark then enjoy a truly amazing trip out on to the frozen ocean, to catch the delicious Arctic Red King Crab, a totally unforgettable experience on the frozen fjords of Kirkenes.  This is your chance to taste this delicious seafood treat. It doesn't get any fresher- the crabs are caught in the fjord, as you help to saw a hole in the ice and bring up the days catch. Watch as the crab is prepared by your master guide, then ride on snowmobile sleds (your fisherman drives the snowmobile and you sit in a sled behind the snowmobile), to a beautiful farmhouse by the lake. Here, by a cosy log fire, your King Crab meal awaits you.

After the king crab meal, transfer to the Kirkenes SnowHotel, and enjoy a welcome drink made from berries collected from surrounding hills, at the SnowBar, before checking in to the ‘coolest’ hotel around! A 3-course dinner prepared with local ingredients is served, before you have the opportunity to walk around the SnowHotel and say hello to the resident reindeers, and with any luck, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Your host then helps you prepare for the evening ahead, making sure you are as comfortable as possible. Overnight in a unique Snow Room, each of which is carved from snow and ice and is truly a work of art. Warm sleeping bags and sheets are provided, as well as extra clothing, and hot water bottles if needed. The silence is absolute! A warm lounge serves midnight teas and coffees and there are showers, sauna and toilets in a separate building, right next door.
