The UNESCO World Heritage listed Ilulissat is the perfect destination for viewing icebergs. Start with breathtaking views over the Inland Ice Cap and fjords, as you fly into the town. Witness the majestic beauty of Greenlandic nature and enjoy some fantastic optional winter activities, such as dog-sledding, cruising on the Fjord to see gigantic icebergs, enjoying the Northern Lights on a clear night and much more. These are just a few of the unique winter experiences that await you here. Your tour arrangements include return flights, accommodation, and airport transfers in Greenland.

This tour departs from either Reykjavik or Copenhagen and is available as either a 4 or 5 day tour. The itinerary shown below is for the 4 day tour from Reykjavik. Notes for the 5 day tours follow.

Day 1 Reykjavík – Ilulissat
Make your own way to the airport for your flight from Reykjavik to Ilulissat. On arrival, transfer to Hotel Arctic, check-in, then meet your local guide for an introduction and welcome. Then enjoy a guided walk around the town -  visit the older areas, to see the original buildings dating from the early settlement of this former Danish trading station, as well as the busy fishing harbour, the old Zion Church & the museum. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant, which specializes in 'fresh from the fjords and fells' cuisine.

Days 2 and 3 Ilulissat: Days at leisure or Optional Excursions
Today and tomorrow relax and explore Ilulissat on your own, or you can join one of the fabulous optional excursions available:

Search for the Northern Lights by snowshoe:  Hunt for the amazing Northern Lights in a very traditional way on this guided snow shoe walk. Your guide will tell you all about this natural phenomenon and about the Inuit legends and traditions. Light refreshments are included. Duration 2 hrs.

Search for the Northern Lights by snowmobile: Experience the Arctic sunset and enjoy breathtaking views, driving on snowmobiles into the wilderness to watch for the Northern Lights. Hot drinks are included. 2 persons share each snowmobile and each driver must have a valid drivers licence. Duration 2hrs.

Husky Safari 2 or 4 hrs:  leave the civilized world and enter an Arctic wonderland of low passes and ice covered fjords, where icebergs raise like sculptures. You will feel as though you have travelled back in time, into the world of the old polar explorers! 2 persons share each dog sled. (Only operated when there is snow - expected to be from early/mid December to late March.)

Snowshoe Walk to View the icebergs: An easy guided snowshoe walk, following the 'Yellow Trail 'to enjoy ta panoramic view of the Sermermiut valley, the icebergs and Disko Bay. Duration 2 hrs.

The Icebergs of Sermermiut: Travel by bus as far as the road goes, then enjoy a beautiful guided walk along the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord to Sermermiut, where traces from the 3 old Inuit cultures can still be seen, as well as the fantastic icebergs. Light refreshments are included. Duration 3hrs.

Old hunter's Settlement of Rodebay: travel by boat to the small settlement Oqaatsut, also known as Rodebay, with a local population of less than 40 people, largely dependent on fishing and hunting - a quite different world compared to that of Ilulissat. Oqaatsut in Greenlandic means " the cormorants" and the village was then named Rodebay by Dutch whalers in the 18th century. The settlement is about 20km north of Ilulissat on a little peninsula facing the island of Disko. Your tour includes lunch. 6hrs  (Only operated when there is open water - usually from mid March until late November, but might also run all winter). This excursion can only be purchased locally.

Old hunter's Settlement of Ilimanaq: travel by boat to the small settlement  of Ilimanaq, situated just south of Kangia Ice Fjord. The settlement was founded around 1741 and the current population is approx 80 inhabitants. The boat tour to Ilimanaq itakes you among the massive icebergs that lie at the mouth of the Ilulissat icefjord. Your tour includes lunch. 6hrs. (Only operated when there is open water - usually from mid March until late November, but might also run all winter). This excursion can only be purchased locally.

Icebergs Cruise: Ilulissat is world famous for its icebergs, and a cruise provides the perfect opportunity to get close to these giant sculptures created by nature. Light refreshments are included. Duration 2.5hrs. (Only operated when there is open water, usually from mid March until late November, but might also run all winter). This excursion can only be purchased locally.
