Tromso sits in northern Norway, above the Arctic Circle and is famous as a viewing point for the Northern Lights. The city’s historic center, on the island of Tromsø, has charming centuries-old wooden houses and the  Arctic Cathedral, with its distinctive peaked roof and soaring stained-glass windows, dominates the skyline.

Enjoy time in Tromso itself, then travel to a fantastic wilderness camp for an overnight stay. Out here, away from the city, no light pollution interrupts your views of the Northern Lights. At the camp visit the fantastic, massive Ice Domes, search for the Northern Lights by snowmobile or reindeer sled and try dog-sledding in the valleys - a true winter adventure!

Day 1 Tromsø Arrival
On arrival in Tromso make your own way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this university town with it's lively atmosphere. We recommend visits to the Arctic Cathedral for it’s daring architecture, Polaria Aquarium (don’t miss the Northern Lights & Spitsbergen Arctic Wilderness films), the Polar Museum to learn about the role Tromsø has played in Arctic exploration, and the MS Polstjerna, a well preserved sailing vessel from 1949.

Day 2 Tromsø – Wilderness Camp: Reindeer Sledding or Snowmobile Safari and Ice Dome Visit
Day at leisure, before your 17:00hrs pick up in downtown Tromso and transfer to the wilderness camp. The camp is located in a climatic zone of stable, dry weather, with many days of clear skies, and is therefore an excellent place for spotting the Aurora Borealis, and the dark and quiet surroundings hold a genuine Arctic atmosphere. Also, in this uninhabited area, no artificial light will disturb your experience!

On arrival at the camp visit the fabulous Ice Domes. The Domes are massive ice structures built each winter,  just 100m walk from the camp. Each Dome has an ice bar and ice restaurant, with themes ranging from local Sami culture to the Northern Lights. After a non-alcoholic welcome shot in an ice glass, your guide will tell you all about the Tamok valley and life so far north, with stories about the importance snow has for the survival of Arctic animals, and their way of living. Enjoy a dinner of locally sourced ingredients, served in the Ice Restaurant.

Then it's time for your Northern Lights excursion - you can choose between a Snowmobile Safari or a Reindeer Sled ride.

Snowmobile Safari: This exhilarating and exciting tour takes you through the dramatic, snow covered Finn valley, past scenic mountains starting at 250m above sea level and soaring to 900m. You'll spend about 90 minutes on the snowmobile. 2 persons usually share each snowmobile, but you can drive solo for a supplement.

Reindeer Sledding: the oldest form of transport in the north & an ancient part of Sami culture. Driving in pairs, with one sled per reindeer, sit tucked cosily with blankets around you as you travel comfortably across the valley of Tamok. About 90 minutes is spent on the safari.

After your chosen excursion, return to the camp for overnight.

Day 3 Husky Safari and Return to Tromsø
A team of eager huskies is waiting to take you dog-sledding this morning. Begin with a  safety and driving  instruction session about how to be a musher, then set off driving your own dog team. 2 persons share the driving of each sled, and you can swap drivers half way. Head out across white landscapes, through the beautiful Vassdalen valley (an approximate distance of 15km return). After your safari transfer back to the hotel in Tromsø, arriving at around 16:00hrs. Overnight in your hotel.
