This fantastic exploration of Greenland combines 3 days travelling by boat along the spectacular Greenlandic West Coast with time spent on land in beautiful Ilulissat, the 'Town of the Icebergs'. You can take this tour from either Copenhagen or Reykjavik.

Day 1 Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq- IIlulissat or Reykjavik- Ilulissat; Optional Midnight Sun Cruise
From Copenhagen take the flight to Kangerlussuaq, then the connecting flight to Ilulissat. Or, from Reykjavik's Domestic Airport, take the direct flight to Ilulissat. Once in Ilulissat, meet your guide, check-in and join a briefing for the coming days. Then enjoy a guided town walk -  the guide will tell you about the history of Ilulissat and you will visit the old part of town and see buildings from the very start of the Danish trading station, the busy fishing harbour, the old church and the museum. Accommodation at Hotel Arctic and welcome Dinner.

Tonight after dinner you can perhaps take an optional midnight cruise amongst the icebergs. The midnight sun and the warm red colours reflecting in the gigantic icebergs is a fantastic sight. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late drink on "the real rocks" ! The cruise includes light refreshments.

Day 2  Ilulissat Walk to the Icebergs of Sermermiut and Afternoon Boarding
This morning enjoy a guided walk to see the Icebergs of Sermermiut. Travel by bus as far as the road goes, then enjoy a beautiful guided walk along the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord to Sermermiut, where traces from the 3 old Inuit cultures can still be seen. Sermermiut is a fertile valley next to the Ice Fjord, so here you can enjoy flowers which can be a rare Greenland sight,  as well as the fantastic icebergs. Light refreshments are included and the excursion takes about 3 hours. 

In the afternoon transfer to the pier to embark onboard MV Sarfaq Ittuk for the 16:30 departure on the southbound cruise along the West Coast, with a short stop in Aasiaat. Overnight on board in outside cabin.

Day 3  West Coast: Sisimiut and Maniitsoq
Today enjoy sailing  south along the Greenlandic West Coast. During the morning there will be a stop at Sisimiut, founded in 1756 and Greenland's second largest town, for a short walk on the town. Later in the evening, there is a short stop Maniitsoq, a small town beautifully situated on the archipelago. Overnight on board in outside cabin.

Day 4  West Coast: Nuuk
This morning call in to the small city that is Greenland's capital, and a charming town with traditional brightly coloured houses.  Enjoy a walking tour of the city starting at the Colonial Harbour- visit Our Saviours Church built in 1849, the Parliament, and the Atlantic harbour, which is usually full of life. The tour ends at Katuaq, the cultural centre of the town. Stay in Nuuk until around 1pm. Overnight on board in outside cabin.

Day 5  Qaqortoq Arrival and Disembarkation
Continue sailing in the beautiful South Greenland Archipelago. Short stop at Paamuit, a town based around fishing. At around midnight Qaqortoq and transfer to Hotel Qaqortoq for overnight. 

Day 6  Qaqortoq - Narsarsuaq and Departure
This morning enjoy a short guided walk of Qaqortoq town before transferring to the airport for the helicopter flight to Narsarsuaq, from where you will board your flight back to Copenhagen or Keflavik International Airport, Iceland. (Please note if the weather is inclement the transfer from Qaqortoq to Narsarsauq will be by boat)

West Coast & Cruise  9 days / 8 nights from Copenhagen Itinerary

Day 1 Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq- IIlulissat. 
From Copenhagen take the flight to Kangerlussuaq, then the connecting flight to Ilulissat.

Day 2 Ilulissat:  Visit to the small villages and old hunters settlements at Rodebay or Ilimanaq.
Today choose between visiting the small villages and old hunters settlements at either Rodebay or Ilimanaq.

Old hunters’ Settlement of Rodebay:  travel by boat to the small settlement  Oqaatsut, also known as Rodebay, with a local population of less than 40 people, largely dependent on fishing and hunting - a quite different world compared to that of Ilulissat. Oqaatsut in Greenlandic means " the cormorants" and the village was then named Rodebay by Dutch whalers in the 18th century. The settlement is about 20km north of Ilulissat on a little peninsula facing the island of Disko. Your tour includes lunch. Tour duration : 6hrs

Old hunters’ settlement of Ilimanaq:  travel by boat to the small settlement  of Ilimanaq, situated just south of the Kangia Ice Fjord. The settlement was founded around 1741 and the current population is approx 80 inhabitants. The boat tour to Ilimanaq itakes you among the massive icebergs that lie at the mouth of the Ilulissat icefjord. Your tour includes lunch. Tour duration : 6hrs

Day 3 Ilulissat: Walk to the Icebergs of Sermermiut & Midnight Sun Cruise
This morning enjoy a guided walk to see the Icebergs of Sermermiut. Day 4 Ilulissat: Day at leisure
Today relax and enjoy some free time or take one of the great optional excursions offered:

* whale watching safari 5 hrs

*  Fishing Tour 6 hrs

* Feed the huskies1 hr

* guided hike on the delightful Cecily trail 8  hours: please note you have to be in good physical shape as this is a medium level hike

* amazing flightseeing tours 35 minutes or 45 minutes or 1 hour

Day 5  Ilulissat : Morning at leisure then Afternoon Boarding for Coastal Cruise

Day 7 Qaqortoq: By Boat to the Inland Ice Cap  
Enjoy a fantastic boat ride to the fantastic Inland Ice Cap and the Twin Glaciers. Weather permitting, we go ashore very close to the glaciers. From this point you have the chance to see the Ice Cap from below, and feel the massive power of nature. The tour includes lunch.

Day 8: Qaqortoq: Hvalsey Fjord & Church Ruins
Today enjoy a guided tour into the beautiful Hvalsey Fjord around Arpatsivik Island to Hvalsey, where we visit the old Norse ruins as well as the church ruin, dating from the Norse period. A wedding in the church in 1408 is the last written evidence that we have from the Norse settlement in Greenland. Light refreshments are included.

Day 9  Qaqortoq-  Narsarsuaq and Departure
This morning transfer to the airport for the helicopter flight to Narsarsuaq, from where you will board your flight back to Reykjavik. (Please note if the weather is inclement the transfer from Qaqortoq to Narsarsauq will be by boat)
