Experience Norway’s unique culture from  the town of Alta, where the blue light of winter glows over the landscape. Here in the land of the ancient Sami peoples, enjoy a truly wonderful cultural  experience. Learn about the history and culture of the Sami, enjoy a guided city walk including the amazing Arctic Lights Cathedral  and the famous Alta Musuem, search for the fabled Northern Lights, visit the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, try a short dog sled ride and visit the edge of the world - the North Cape.  Finish with a traditional Arctic feast  made from locally sourced ingredients and more.

Day 1 - Alta Arrival
Upon arrival, make your own way to your hotel. Time at leisure. Alta is the largest town in the north, and the world's first Northern Light observatory was built here at the end of the 19th century,  earning Alta the nickname "Town of the Northern Lights." Alta's location in the inner reaches of the Alta Fjord offers forests, mountain plateaux and coastal and mountain landscapes, and means winter here is often not as harsh as elsewhere.

Day 2 Guided City Tour and Evening Search for the Northern Lights
This morning at 10:00 start your 2 hour privately guided city tour. Highlights include a visit to Alta's fantastic Northern Lights Cathedral,  with its amazing architecture inspired by the Aurora Borealis. The swirling waves of the Northern Lights were the inspiration for the spiral design of the titanium clad building, and Alta Museum, with exhibits of local rock carvings dating from over 6,000 years ago. (Please note the outdoor rock carvings are not visible in winter)

Time at leisure before your evening Northern Lights excursion. Pick up at your hotel and travel by car to the best viewpoints, far away from any sources of light pollution in the town.  Your guides are keen photographers and they will help you capture get the best photos possible. Then return to your hotel.Snacks and hot drinks included.

Day 3 The North Cape
Today a privately guided all day car trip to the North Cape, the northern most point of Europe where the Atlantic meets the Arctic Ocean.  Here, there is no dry land between you and the North Pole except for the Svalbard archipelago! Drive through the winter landscape in comfort, hearing stories from your guide about life in the arctic. On arrival at the Cape explore the museum, before heading out to the Cape itself.  Then return to the hotel, with stops along the way for coffee and to stretch your legs.

Day 4 Sami Culture and Reindeer Experience and Taste of Norwegian Lapland
This morning a unique and intriguing experience that will give you a glimpse into the life of the ancient Sami people. Visit a local Sami family  and learn of their past and present culture- hear of their history, meet their reindeer, enjoy a short sleigh ride, and listen to "joiking" - remarkable traditional Sami singing. Your visit includes a taste of some local delicacies.  Afternoon at leisure.

Tonight experience a unique evening in the old centre of Alta, dining at Restaurant Haldde, one of Finnmark’s best restaurants.  Enjoy a three-course Arctic feast with king crab, grilled stockfish, smoked reindeer and dessert. Please note transfers tonight are NOT included.

Day 5 Snowmobile Safari & Visit to Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel
This morning enjoy an easy snowmobile safari which includes a visit to the fabulous Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. 2 persons share the driving of each snowmobile, so you can both enjoy the thrill of driving, and the view as a passenger. The driving time is around 25 minutes each way.   

In beautiful natural surroundings by the banks of the Alta river, the extraordinary Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is a luxurious hotel where the entire interior and exterior is made anew each year of snow. The hotel opens its door in January each year and melts away again in the spring............After your visit and a tour of the hotel return to Alta. (A valid driver's licence is required for each driver).

Day 6  Departure
Following breakfast, your tour arrangements conclude.
