Rovaniemi has a lot more to offer in winter time apart from Santa Claus! This fantastic tour has reindeer sledding with ice fishing, a snowshoe walk, husky safari, a visit to the Arctic Snow Hotel by snowmobile, and something very different - floating warm and dry in icy waters whilst gazing at the night skies.
Day 1 Arrival in Rovaniemi
On arrival in Rovaniemi transfer to your hotel. Time to explore the town, browse the shops and perhaps visit the fabulous Artikum Museum.
Day 2 Husky Safari and Northern Lights Picnic
Start the day with a husky safari. The friendly barking of the excited huskies welcomes you to the local husky farm. After a brief lesson, it's time to head off- as soon as the dogs start running, all you will hear is the swish of the sled runners as you glide quietly across the snow. Stop for a break and a hot drink and the chance to switch drivers. The average length of the trail is 12-17 km and 2 persons share each sled. Duration: 3 hours.
Afternoon free. Then in the evening enjoy a search for the beautiful Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. Rovaniemi's location on the Arctic Circle gives you great possibilities to seek the Lights. Your guide will drive you out of the city, away from any light pollution, to the best viewing spots, depending on the weather. Then enjoy a traditional Lappish picnic by the fire. Duration: 3 hours.
Day 3 Reindeer Sledding and Ice Fishing
Reindeer sledding is one of the oldest forms of transport in Lapland, and this safari offers you an insight into traditional life in Lapland. Travel through the silent snow nestled snugly in the sleigh as your driver takes you to a frozen wilderness lake. There your guide will teach you how to drill a hole in the ice of the frozen lake and prepare the ice fishing rod and baits. The rest is up to you! If you are lucky, the catch of the day will be prepared for you, otherwise you will have a small campfire snack of sausages, before returning by sleigh to the reindeer farm.Duration: 4 hours.
Day 4 Snowmobile Safari to the Wilderness
Today take a snowmobile safari along snowy tracks, past frozen rivers, lakes and forests, into the beautiful wilderness surrounding Rovaniemi. A delicious hot lunch is served by an open fire, before the return snowmobile trip. Duration: 6 hours. 2 persons share the driving of each snowmobile.
Day 5 Snowshoe Walk & Evening Aurora Floating
Having a walk on snowshoes is a fun way to play in the snow and explore the snowy landscapes. Your guide will take you to some lovely winter wonderlands, where you can find the perfect place to walk, enjoy the peace and quiet, take photos and have fun in the snow. Duration: 2 hours.
Then tonight one of the highlights of your holiday - Aurora Borealis Ice-floating. Dip into a frozen lake under the night sky at a private and secret venue. You will be kept completely warm and dry, wearing a high quality floating rescue suit over your own clothing, so you really will not get cold and you will be totally safe. If the weather is clear, you will gaze up at beautiful stars and may even get to marvel at the magnificent Aurora Borealis in the Arctic night. Duration: 3 hours.
