This tour focuses on the 4 beautiful and historic Scandinavian cities of Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Oslo. Travel includes overnight ferry trips through the stunning waters of the Stockholm Archipelago and the Kattegat Straits. You will enjoy the highlights of each wonderful city, whilst still having plenty of time to explore further on your own.

You can extend the tour by adding time in the magnificent Norwegian Fjords - see our escorted tour Four Capitals + Scenic Norway. Or, for an indepedent version of this tour, take a look at our Capitals of Scandinavia tour.

Day 1 Stockholm Arrival
Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and transfer to your hotel. Your tour escort will meet you at 19.45hrs (before dinner) in the hotel lobby. Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands, and connected by 57 bridges. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions, most of which can be reached on foot. 2 nights in Stockholm at the Clarion Hotel Sign, with dinner at the hotel tonight.

Day 2 Stockholm: City Sightseeing & Old Town (Gamla Stan)
After your Scandinavian buffet breakfast, enjoy a 4 hour guided tour of Stockholm. Famous sights include the Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings, the island of Djurgården and the Old Town (Gamla Stan), with its narrow cobbled streets and numerous antique shops. A tour highlight is a visit to City Hall with its famous Blue and Golden Rooms, where the Nobel Prize Banquet is held each year.

Afternoon free in Stockholm. Perhaps visit the Vasa Museum - the impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. She has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging. Also walk the charming streets of the famous old town, Gamla Stan, and enjoy sitting in the many bars, cafes and restaurants, to watch the passing parade. Or indulge in some Nordic shopping in the many quirky boutiques and homeware stores.

2nd overnight at the Clarion Hotel Sign. Please note that dinner is not included tonight

Day 3 Stockholm - Helsinki:  Morning at Leisure & Cruise the Archipelago
Morning free in Stockholm for exploring this beautiful city, often called the Venice of the North because of its many canals and waterways. We recommend you take one of the many canal boat tours, to really appreciate the architecture and culture of this very maritime city.

In the afternoon transfer from the hotel to the ferry pier, to take the overnight ferry to Helsinki, departing at 16.45hrs. Sail slowly through the Stockholm archipelago past numerous small islands and enjoy the great views. There is a wide choice of entertainment on board including shops, a casino and bars. 2 nights on board in an A Class outside cabin with private facilities (with sole use of the cabin), including buffet dinner and breakfast.

Day 4 Helsinki - Stockholm: City Sightseeing & Afternoon at Leisure
Enjoy your buffet breakfast, as you sail into Helsinki. (You retain your cabin on the ferry). Disembark and start a 3 hour guided tour of the Finnish capital. Famous sights include the Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral, Parliament House, Finlandia Hall, Sibelius Park & Monument, Underground Temple and more.

The afternoon is free for exploring on your own. Helsinki is truly located at the crossroads of Western and Eastern culture and this is reflected everywhere, in this green and lively small city. The city was founded in 1550 by the Swedish King Gustav Vasa, as a trading post to compete with Tallinn, and in the 19th century Finland became part of Russia. Enjoy the bustle of the harbourside area, or perhaps take the short ferry ride to the charming Suomenlinna Fortress, since 1991 on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and a unique monument to European military architecture. In the late afternoon, make your own way back to the ferry terminal, for the departure back to Stockholm. 2nd night onboard, with buffet diinner and breakfast.

Day 5 Stockholm - Copenhagen: Swedish Countryside
After a delicious buffet breakfast on board, arrive back in Stockholm and disembark. Your tour then continues by coach through the pleasant countryside of Southern Sweden to Lake Vättern, where we stop for lunch at a local restaurant. We then continue to Malmö, and across the amazing Øresund Bridge, to arrive in wonderful Copenhagen in the early evening. 2 nights in Copenhagen at the Admiral Hotel, located close to the Amalienborg Palace, the old Nyhavn harbour and pedestrian streets. Enjoy dinner at the hotel tonight.

Day 6 Copenhagen: City Sightseeing, Time at Leisure & Tivoli Gardens
The day starts with a 3 hour guided panoramic tour of the city, during which you will see Amalienborg Palace (the residence of the Danish Royal Family), Christiansborg Palace (the seat of the Danish Parliament), Gefion Fountain, the old harbour of Nyhavn, the famous Little Mermaid and many other popular sights.

The afternoon is at leisure. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance of the city centre. Perhaps visit the old harbour area of Nyhavn, now full of cafes, bars and restaurants, one of the many museums of art, culture, history and design, or stroll the charming pedestrian shopping streets of Strøget. Your tour escort will provide you with entrance tickets to the famous Tivoli Gardens, which you can use this evening. 2nd night at the Admiral Hotel. Please note that dinner is not included tonight.

Day 7 Copenhagen - Oslo: Cruise Kattegat Straits
This morning enjoy the city for a further few hours - perhaps take a Canal Tour. Or join the hop on- hop off open top bus for a rest from walking!  In the afternoon transfer to the ferry pier, for your overnight cruise to Oslo. Enjoy a Scandinavian buffet dinner as you cruise gently up the Kattegat Straits. There is dancing and entertainment on board, or you may prefer to sit out on deck and watch the sunset. Overnight on board in an A Class outside cabin with private facilities (with sole use of the cabin), including buffet dinner and breakfast.

Day 8 Oslo: City Sightseeing & Afternoon Free
A delicious buffet breakfast is being served as you cruise along the enchanting Oslo Fjord, to arrive into Oslo at around 09.30 hrs. Disembark, and then we start a 3 hour guided tour of the city, including a walk through the impressive Vigeland Sculpture Park.

The afternoon is free in Oslo. We can recommend a visit to the fantastic Viking Ship Museum, the Munch Museum or a stroll along Karl Johan shopping boulevard. Overnight at the Thon Hotel Opera Oslo.
