Explore Iceland's Ring Road including the mysterious Eastern Fjords, Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Melrakkasletta, the northern most point of Iceland.

Day1  Keflavik Airport – Hveragerði     100km
Geothermal Lagoon – Flower village – Geothermal Greenhouses 

Pick up the car at the airport and start your Iceland experience. From Keflavík International Airport drive the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula towards your first overnight stay in charming Hveragerði village. This is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area and because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs, it is often called the flower village.  Overnight in Hveragrerdi.

Day 2   Thingvellir – Gullfoss – Skálholt – Thjórsárdalur – Hella    300km
National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO) – Exploding Geysers – Massive Waterfall – Hekla Volcano

Today's highlights include Thingvellir National Park a place of great geological and historical interest, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot-spring area. Drive along the mighty Thjórsá river to Thjórsárdalur Valley with Mt. Hekla, Iceland's most famous volcano towering above. Continue to the South Shore area. Overnight in South Iceland.  

Day 3  Hella – Vík – Kirkjubæjarklaustur     160km
Thundering Waterfalls – Puffin Colony – Black Sand Beaches – Lava Fields

Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Continue to Dyrhólaey* a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in the summer. Travel across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to picturesque Kirkjubæjarklaustur village, the former site of a 12th century Catholic convent. *Please note that Dyrhólaey is closed during nesting season from mid-May until late June.  Overnight in South Iceland.

Day 4  Skaftafell – Jökulsárlón – Höfn – Egilsstaðir    450km
Europe's Largest National Park – Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs – Europe's Largest Glacier

Today you will be in the area of Vatnajökull National Park and Skaftafell area, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajökull glacier offering various hiking possibilities. Continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where huge icebergs, float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon. Drive along the rugged and varied coastline of the magnificent East Fjords to Egilsstaðir the largest town in the east.  Overnight in Egilsstaðir area.

Day 5   Egilsstaðir and Surroundings     Variable mileage
East Fjords – Legendary Lake Monster – Largest Forest in Iceland

Explore Egilsstaðir and surrounding area. Visit Hallormsstaður the largest forest plantation in Iceland set along Lake Lagarfljót, which according to legend contains a monster.  The highlight of this area is the new Wilderness Center with exciting hiking and horseriding tours past mountains, waterfalls and abandoned farmhouses.  An interactive exhibit also shows the Icelandic way of life here in the olden days. Overnight in Egilsstaðir area.

Day 6   Vopnafjörður – Langanes    140km
Glacial Rivers – Small Fishing Villages – Northernmost Point in Iceland

Drive to Vopnafjörður village, with spectacular coast and natural hot springs. Continue to Thórshöfn village with 500 inhabitants which is situated on Langanes peninsula. Overnight in North East Iceland.

Day 7  Ásbyrgi – Húsavík – Myvatn    240km
Glacier Carved Gorge - Whale Watching - Volcanic Area

Travel across Öxafjarðarheiði plateau. Visit Ásbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. Drive along Tjörnes peninsula to the fishing port of Húsavík, before continuing to Lake Myvatn. Overnight in North East Iceland.

Day 8  Akureyri and Surroundings     Variable Mileage
Volcanic Area – Lava Formations of Lake Mývatn - Botanical Gardens

Explore the Lake Myvatn area and its natural wonders including the fantastic lava formations of Dimmuborgir, Krafla volcanic area, and the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir. Stop at Goðafoss waterfall and then head towards scenic Eyjafjordur fjord and Akureyri, the beautiful Capital of the North.  Overnight at Akureyri area.

Day 9  Akureyri – Stykkishólmur    348km
Fertile Farmlands – Viking Horses – Quaint Fishing Villages

From Akureyri continue over Öxnadalur pass to the historical region of Skagafjörður renowned for horse breeding.  You might like to visit the old farmstead at Glaumbær a great example from the past of Icelandic architecture. Continue the drive to Snæfellsnes peninsula.  Overnight in West Iceland.

Day 10  Snæfellsnes – Borgarnes – Reykjavík     200km
Coastal Villages – Sea Cliffs with Birdlife – Volcanic Crater – Picturesque Fjord

Circle around the legendary Snæfellsjökull peninsula passing the small fishing villages of Hellissandur and Grundarfjörður. Don't miss the striking columnar basalt rock formations at Arnarstapi. Make a stop at the rocky beach of Djúpalónssandur. Pass Eldborg crater enroute to the agricultural region of Borgarfjörður before going on to Reykjavík.  Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 11 Reykjavik - Keflavik Airport  52km
Your tour concludes with car drop-off at Keflavik International Airport.

Please note:  for travel in peak season from June to August 2017 there is limited hotel availability.  Whilst every endeavour will be made to book the accommodation level requested, a mixture of accommodations only may be available.  If so, the final price for the tour would be adjusted accordingly.

* The first night of your tour is spent in the Hveragerdi area, a small town about 45km from Reykjavik, to enable you to then head off into the countryside the next day without having to go through Reykjavik.
* The names for individual accommodations are not available prior to booking, as the tour package is based on specific hotel/price categories and not on specific hotels/accommodations and the exact location of your hotel will vary according to availability. The itinerary indicates the region only for each overnight stay (with the exception of the last night which is always in Reykjavik itself)

* The price is based on  10 x 24-hour rental days starting at the time of car pick up and finishing at the same time. Additional use of the car beyond this time frame will incur additional days rental fee.

* We recommend a Group 2.0 car or higher- the price of the tour will vary according to the car category selected.
