The Faroe Islands are one of best places in the world to see abundant bird life in the wild. The unspoiled nature of the islands and their isolation means the birds are free to breed and nest without fear, so you can often approach very close.

You can expect to see Puffin, Gannet, Oystercatcher, Golden Plover, Strom Petrel, Red-necked Phalarope, Whimbrel, Arctic Tern and many others. What better place to indulge your passion for birds and the natural environment, than in the magnificent and unique landscapes of these amazing islands?

Day 1 Copenhagen* - Vagar, Faroe Islands
Make your own way to Copenhagen* airport for your flight to the Faroe Islands. On arrival at Vágar Airport  pick up your rental car and enjoy the rest of the day on your own - perhaps visit the small villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, or take a walk from the village of Miðvágur to the rock formation the Witches’ Finger. This hike offers rich scenery and great look out points. 2 nights on Vágar.

Drive to the village of Sorvagur, then head to the island of Mykines by ferry. Mykines is unique with it's rich bird life. On arrival meet your guide and begin a guided hike to Mykinesholm. Along the path to the island thousands of puffins breed and nest, and it is possibe to get very close to them. There is also a gannet colony on the island. A picnic lunch is provided to enjoy en route. Return by ferry for your 2nd overnight on Vagar.

Day 3 Vagar - Eysturoy: Streymoy, the Giant and the Witch and Slættaratindur
Drive from Vagar through the island of Streymoy, past the old whaling station Við Áir and over the bridge to Eysturoy. First stop en route is the village of Eiði, an area where sheep are prohibited to graze so you can experience the rich bird and plant life. Enjoy the panoramic views from the top. Continue on to the village of Gjógv and en route see the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur at 882 metres and the impressive rock formations the Giant and the Witch, situated out in the sea. Spend one night on Eysturoy.

Day 4 Eysturoy - Sandoy: Gjógv and Søldafjørður
Today perhaps enjoy the village of Gjógv, which is known for its lovely natural harbour. Here it is possible to hike up the mountain with a beautiful view over the adjacent islands and over bird cliffs. In the afternoon drive to the village of Søldafjørður, via Funningsfjørður, to visit a private home with a unique garden, where coffee and cake will be served. Continue on to the ferry harbour Gamlarætt via Tórshavn, to board the ferry to the island of Sandoy. 2 nights on Sandoy.

Day 5 Sandoy: Fresh Water Lakes & Sand Dunes Guided Walk
From the village of Sandur take a guided walk with one of the locals, to the freshwater Gróthúsvatn Lake to see and hear more about the birdlife, and to the sand dunes with a wide array of flowers, including spotted orchids, moss and lichens. Your senses will be surrounded with impressions from the unique natural surroundings!  2nd night on Sandoy.
