Itinerary

Day 1 Copenhagen - Vágar, Faroe Islands

Make your own way to Copenhagen airport for your flight to the Faroe Islands. On arrival at Vágar Airport pick up your rental car and explore the island of Vágar on your own. We recommend a visit to the small village of Gásadalur. From here you can walk out on marked nature trails and enjoy the impressive view over Tindhólmur. Also don't miss the beautiful waterfall that runs in to the ocean. Overnight in Vágar.

Day 2 Vágar - Eysturoy: Optional Vestmanna Sea Cliffs and Saga Museum, Giant & The Witch

Today on your way north, and if travelling between May and September, we would recommend an optional tour which includes a two hour boat trip to the Vestmanna sea cliffs and a visit to the unique Saga Museum. The boat takes you in between the cliffs and into sea caves and grottoes. Lunch will be provided after the boat trip. Then perhaps visit the Saga Museum, the only wax museum in the Faroe Islands.

Continue on to the village of Tjørnuvík, surrounded by steep mountains. Here you can see the impressive rock formations the Giant and the Witch. Cross the bridge that connects the islands of Eysturoy and Streymoy, and continue to the village of Eiði. Here more beautiful surroundings and nature await you and some of the best views of the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur, 882m. Spend the next two nights on Eysturoy.

Day 3 Eysturoy: Gjogv Village, Bird Cliffs and Ambadalur Valley

Enjoy the day at the village of Gjógv, which is known for its unique natural harbour. At the end of the crevice, facing the open ocean, it is possible to enjoy the view from Crown Princess Mary’s Bench. Here it is possible to hike on your own and enjoy the view of the birdcliffs and the beautiful valley Ambadalur. Hiking maps are available from Hotel Gjáargarður, Gjógv. 2nd night on Eysturoy.

Day 4 Eysturoy - Northern Islands

From Leirvík drive through the sub-sea tunnel to the town of Klaksvík. The tunnel is decorated with lights made by the famous Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson. From Klaksvík you can explore the other Northern Islands, each offering dramatic landscapes. On the island of Viðoy lies the most northern village in the Faroe Islands, Viðareiði, which is definitely worth a visit. Overnight in the Northern Islands.

Day 5 Northern Islands - Tórshavn: Kunoy and Kalsoy Islands

We suggest that you visit the island of Kunoy in the morning. From the tiny village of Kunoy is a beautiful view of the island of Kalsoy. Above the village is a small cosy park. A local legend tells that up on a high mountain in Kunoy lies a plank from Noah's Ark, with clams and sea shells growing on it! Back on Eysturoy drive towards the village of Toftir,  take the new subsea tunnel with the "Jellyfish" roundabout and continue to Tórshavn. Tonight, perhaps enjoy an optional private home visit and dinner with a local family. Spend the next three nights in Tórshavn.

Day 6 Tórshavn: Sandoy Island, the Saga Island

We suggest that you visit the beautiful island of Sandoy today, also called the Saga Island. From the harbour at Gamlarætt take the car ferry to the village of Skopun to visit the beautiful and green island of Sandoy, also called the Saga-island. The island is, compared to the other islands, characterised by mostly flat terrain and it has a wealth of history and wonderful nature. On Sandoy, visit the church, enjoy some fantastic scenic views and explore the small villages of Dalur and Húsavík, which lie in beautiful surroundings. 2nd overnight in Tórshavn.

Day 7 Tórshavn

Enjoy the day in Tórshavn on your own. Or take an optional guided walk or guided bicycle tour in Tórshavn. Or perhaps visit the village of Kirkjubøur which is the Faroe Islands' historical and cultural centre. The picturesque old farm is home to a family who for 17 generations have run the farmstead and ecclesiastic site. See the unfinished Magnus Cathedral and the small medieval church of St.Olav. 3rd overnight in Tórshavn.
