The Faroe Islands are one of best places in the world to see abundant bird life in the wild. The unspoiled nature of the islands and their isolation means the birds are free to breed and nest without fear, so you can often approach very close. Puffins, gannets and storm petrels are amongst the many types of birds. What better place to indulge your passion for birds and the natural environment, than in the magnificent and unique landscapes of these amazing islands?

Day 1 Copenhagen- Faroe Islands
Make your own way to Copenhagen airport for your flight to the Faroe Islands. On arrival at Vágar Airport  pick up your rental car  and enjoy the rest of the day on your own - perhaps visit the small villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, or take a walk from the village of Miðvágur to the rock formation the Witches’ Finger. This hike offers rich scenery and great look out points. 2 nights in Vágar.

Day 2 Mykines - Gannets & Puffins
Drive to the village of Sorvagur, then head to the island of Mykines by ferry. Mykines is unique with it's rich bird life. On arrival begin a guided hike to Mykinesholm. Along the path to the island thousands of puffins breed and nest, and it is possibe to get very close to them. There is also a gannet colony on the island. Picnic lunch is enjoyed en route. 2nd night in Vagar. 

Day 3 Eysturoy, Eiðiskollur, Gjogv
Drive through the island of Streymoy, past the old whaling station Við Áir and over the bridge to Eysturoy. First stop en route is the village of Eiði, an area where sheep are prohibited to graze so you can experience the rich bird and plant life. Enjoy the panoramic view from the top. Continue on to the village of Gjógv and en route see the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur at 882 metres and the impressive rock formations the Giant and the Witch, situated out in the sea. Spend the night in Eysturoy.

Day 4 Gjógv- Bird cliffs - Sandoy
Enjoy the morning in the village of Gjógv, which is known for its lovely natural harbour. Here it is possible to hike up the mountain with a beautiful view over the adjacent islands and over bird cliffs. (Get up to date information and weather details at the overnight accommodation center in Gjógv before going on the hike). In the afternoon drive to the village of Søldafjørður via Funningsfjørður to visit a private home with a unique garden, where coffee and cake will be served. Continue on to the ferry harbour Gamlarætt via Tórshavn to board the ferry toward the island of Sandoy. 2 nights in Sandoy.

Day 5 Sandoy- Fresh Water Lakes & Sand Dunes
From the village of Sandur take a guided walk with one of the locals from the island. You go to the fresh water lake Gróthúsvatn to see and hear more about the birdlife and to the sand dunes with a wide array of flowers, including spotted orchid, moss and lichens. Your senses will be surrounded with impressions from the unique natural surroundings. Picnic lunch en route. 2nd night at Sandoy.

Day 6  Torshavn- Nolsoy: Storm Petrels
Return to Tórshavn. In the early evening take the ferry to the island of Nólsoy. Upon arrival walk to the local tourist office where you will be assisted with your overnight accommodation. Take a walk on your own in this cosy little village, where there are almost no cars. Later in the evening enjoy a guided walk to the Storm Petrel colony, the largest in the world, an exciting walk that lasts from approximately 10pm to 2am. Spend the night in Nolsoy. 

Day 7 Torshavn Day at Leisure
Return from Nólsoy with the ferry to Tórshavn. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own. We suggest a visit to the National Museum and the Open Air Museum, which is situated in beautiful surroundings by the old village of Hoyvík. The village of Kirkjubøur, the cultural centre of the Islands, is also worth a visit. Or perhaps take one of our optional excursions including boat trip to Vestmanna bird cliffs or meet the Faroese, enjoy coffee and cake in a private home. Spend the night in Tórshavn.

Day 8 Faroe Islands - Copenhagen
Return the rental car at the rental car at the airport and departure with Atlantic Airways flight back to Copenhagen. On arrival in Copenhagen airport, your tour arrangements end.

Departures: every Sunday in June, July and August.

Excludes: petrol, any road or tunnel tolls payable; optional tours boat trip to Vestmanna bird cliffs or meet the Faroese in a private home incl coffee and cake (Day 7)

This tour is available with 2 types of accommodation: hotels 6 nights (with private facilities) + 1 night Bed and Breakfast Guesthouse (1 night with shared facilities) OR 7 nights Bed and Breakfast Guesthouses (all nights with shared facilities).  The price shown is for the mixture of bed and breakfast and guesthouses. Arrangements and costs may differ based on dates of travel. The price is based upon a certain class on flights to and from the Faroe Islands- if this class has sold out, the final price may increase, depending on the availability and cost of other classes at the time of booking. You can also take the tour from/to any other Atlantic Airway cities on the route network, days of departure and price may alter.
