This tour takes you from Stockholm down to Malmo, Gothenburg and Kalmar for a fabulous exploration of the charming southern districts. Extra nights can be added at any overnight destination on the way or in Stockholm.

Day 1 Stockholm Arrival
Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport; pick-up your rental car and drive to your hotel. Enjoy the Swedish capital -  take a canal cruise or visit the Vasa Museum. The impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961; she has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging at the Vasa Museum. Also visit the famous old town, Gamla Stan, to stroll the delightful historic streets and wander past the unique shops, cafes and bars, or visit one of the many other great museums. Overnight in Stockholm.

Day 2 Stockholm - Jönköping 325km
Depart Stockholm and drive through southern Sweden’s pleasant countryside, towards the city of Jönköping, beautifully situated at the southern end of Lake Vättern. If time permits you can take a leisurely cruise on the lake. Overnight in Jönköping.

Day 3 Jönköping - Gothenburg 146km
Continue to Gothenburg, the 2nd city of Sweden. There are many attractions here including Liseberg, the greatest amusement park in Scandinavia; boat cruises to the 17th century New Älvsborg Fortress; the floating maritime experience centre Maritiman with an armada of 19 museum vessels where you can see and learn about U-boats, destroyers, mine-layers and fireboats; the Universeum, where you can experience the Ocean, Rain Forest and Space; and many other museums. As well, you can enjoy many outdoor cafes and great shopping. Overnight in Gothenburg.

Day 4 Gothenburg - Malmo 270km
Before leaving Gothenburg, perhaps visit Gunnebo House, one of Sweden’s most beautiful neo-classical estates, situated between Rådasjön and Stensjön Lakes, just south of Gothenburg. Continue south along the West Swedish coastline. Maybe detour to the ancient university city of Lund, over 1,000 years old and one of the oldest cities in Sweden - the University here was founded in 1658. Or detour across the famous Oresund Bridge to visit  Copenhagen, located just on the other side of the narrow Øresund Belt. Arrive in Malmö, a charming city where you can visit Malmöhus Castle, built in 1434 by King Erik VII of Denmark, and home to some outstanding museum collections since 1926. Overnight in Malmo.

Day 5 Malmo - Kalmar 285km
Continue to Kristianstad, a former fortress town founded by the Danish King, Christian IV in around 1614. Take the coast road to Karlshamn, known for its charming and well-preserved historical buildings, and a place that played an important role in Swedish emigration to America, as a large number of people forever left from here. Just west of Växjö reach the ‘Kingdom of Crystal’ - here you can visit some of  the famous glass factories, experience the art of glass blowing and search for bargains in the wonderful shops. Continue to Kalmar, famous for its castle – a long-time guardian of Sweden’s southern frontier. Overnight in Kalmar.

Day 6 Kalmar - Stockholm 409km
Kalmar was once one of the most important towns in the North - spend some more time here before continuing back to Stockholm. The historical past is an integral part of the character of the city; Kalmar Castle, the Old Town and Kvarnholmen tell the tale of mighty Kings and Queens as well as commoners, and traces of the past are found in the architecture, cultural artifacts, art and streets. Return to Stockholm along the Eastern coast line via Västervik, Norrköping and Södertalje. Overnight in Stockholm.
