Travel from Stavanger to historic Bergen, then on to beautiful Alesund, and along the famous Atlantic Highway to Trondheim. Extra nights can be added at the beginning, the end or at any overnight destination along the way.

Day 1 Arrival in Stavanger
Arrival at the airport in Stavanger, pick-up your rental car and drive to your hotel. Stavanger is the cosmopolitan centre of the Rogaland region and Norway’s 4th largest city. Visit the Cathedral (the oldest in Norway) and Old Stavanger, where you will find Northern Europe’s biggest and best preserved  concentration of wooden houses, with more than 170 houses built at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century.

Also easily accessible from Stavanger is one of Norway’s most famous sights, Preikestolen or "Pulpit Rock", which is an awesome flat rock formation standing out almost 600 metres above the Lysefjord. The sheer rock walls rise as high as one kilometre in places. Hiking up to the Preikestolen gives you an astonishing view of the Lysefjord from 600 metres above sea level. Or you can cruise on the fjord past this awesome sight. Overnight in Stavanger.

Day 2 Stavanger - Bergen 210km
Leave Stavanger heading to Randaberg, and through the tunnel to Mortavik, then take the ferry to Arsvågen. Driving north, continue along the coast to Sandvikvåg. Here take the ferry for the approximate 1 hour crossing to Halhjem. Then on to Bergen, capital of western Norway and gateway to the fjords. We recommend a visit to the Fish and Flower Market, the old port of Bryggen, and the wooden buildings of the old Hanseatic trading quarter. And make sure you take the funicular ride up to Mt  Fløien for a panoramic view of Bergen and its surroundings. Overnight in Bergen.

Day 3  Bergen - Sognfjord - Geirangerfjord - Alesund 390 km
This morning depart from Bergen en route to Oppedal. From Oppedal take the ferry to Lavik (ferry crossing fee not included - payable locally only), crossing the beautiful Sognefjord. From Lavik continue on the panoramic route to Førde and Skei and from there to Stryn, along the Jostedal National Park with its famous glaciers, the largest of mainland Europe, on one side and the shores of the Nordfjord on the other. Pass beautiful Geiranger Fjord and the arms of the Storfjord, to arrive in Orsneset. Take the ferry to Magerholm (ferry crossing fee not included - payable locally only). From Magerholm, continue to Ålesund, a maritime town famous for its unique and charming “Art Nouveau” architecture. Overnight in Alesund.

Day  4  Alesund - Atlantic Highway - Kristiansund -Trondheim 365 km
Leave Ålesund and head to Vestnes,  for the ferry across the Long Fjord to Molde (ferry crossing fee not included - payable locally only). From Molde continue north. If time permits, visit the Troll Church, an amazing construction of three limestone grottos with underground waterfalls. Then start the scenic route along the Atlantic Highway, which is often called the most beautiful stretch of road in the world. Drive through the Atlantic ocean tunnel to Kristiansund, through the city and continue to Kanestraum and take the ferry to Halsa (ferry crossing fee not included - payable locally only).

Continue along the fjord and mountain roads to Trondheim, a charming town with narrow streets between colourful wooden houses and little shops. We recommend a visit to the Nidaros Cathedral (Nidaros Domen). The Cathedral has always played an important role in Norwegian history, especially due to a close connection to the Royal Family, and the Norwegian crown jewels are on display in the Archbishop’s Palace right next to the cathedral. Overnight in Trondheim.
