ICE CAP CAMP  2 days /1  night   Departs from and Returns to Kangerlussuaq

Spend one night not close to but actually ON the Inland Ice Cap! Experience Arctic nature up close and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Day 1 Hike to Ice Camp from Kangerlussuaq
Meet your guide at Kangerlussuaq airport.  After a briefing and preparation of equipment, we drive by 4WD vehicle to Point 660, about 37km east of the town and the starting point for the expedition. You can only bring with you a small backpack with essentials, which you must have ready with you.

We head out on the ice. If it’s slippery we can wear crampons and use hiking poles. Heading off in an easterly direction we have about 2 hours of hiking before arriving and setting up our tents, and enjoying coffee, tea and something sweet. The camp has a "toilet tent" with basic facilities. If the weather permits, we will also do a smaller evening hike and enjoy the adventure that unfolds around us. Don’t forget your camera! Late in the evening we help prepare our simple camp dinner then in fine Greenlandic tradition we gather in the mess tent to share our stories before a good nights sleep.

Day 2 Ice Hike- Kangerlussuaq
A new and exciting day on the Ice Cap awaits us. After breakfast in the mess tent it's time to venture out to explore the ice sculptured landscape. Our hike today – depending on the weather - will take us towards the Russell Glacier. On our way across the ice fields we will see the many clear melt water streams that are created each year on the inland ice during summer. As we get closer to the Russell Glacier we will get an impression of the huge crevasses (from a safe distance) that eventually create the calving glacier. Our experienced guide will ensure we stay on safe terrain during the entire hike. Lunch is enjoyed on the hike or in the camp depending on weather conditions. In the afternoon we pack up camp and hike back to the mountainside, where the vehicle awaits us. We will be back in Kangerlussuaq in the early evening.

Departures: daily from June to August

Includes: transfer to and from Camp Ice Cap, overnight in tents on the ice, full board whilst in the camp, local English speaking guide.
