Day 1 Copenhagen – Kangerlussuaq: Optional Inland Ice Cap Excursion
Make your own way to Copenhagen Airport for your flight to Kangerlussuaq. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and check in. Kangerlussuaq is located north of the Arctic Circle and the Arctic air is dry and crisp. The Inland Ice Cap is visible on the horizon, and is just 25 kilometres away.

This afternoon, join an optional excursion to the impressive Ice Cap, the second largest ice sheet in the world and covering 80% of Greenland (and equivalent to 40 times the area of Denmark!). It is a truly unique experience to look at this enormous field of ice and feel the forces of nature. We travel in a custom built 4WD coach that takes us to Point 660, where you can walk upon the ice itself. Here you are at 660 metres above sea level, standing on the world's largest sea of ice. The excursion takes approximately 5 hours, and the drive to the ice takes about 2 hours with a few stops along the way when coffee and tea are served. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq.

Day 2 Kangerlussuaq – Aasiaat – Qasigiannguit
Today take the short flight to Aasiaat - the flight is at a relatively low altitude, so you have a fantastic view of the landscape from above. On arrival, transfer to the harbour and time to explore Aasiaat on your own (depending on your date of travel, this will be between 1 and 4 hours). Aasiaat is a maritime town reliant on fishing and ship building, and the harbour is a lively place with colourful fishing boats, gulls and lots of activity.

This afternoon, board the boat sailing to Qasigiannguit, a 4 hour trip through the southern part of Disko Bay. On arrival into Qasigiannguit, walk the short distance from the harbour to the hotel (your luggage is  transported by car). Tonight enjoy dinner at the hotel, while gazing at the beautiful views across the bay. 2 nights in Qasigiannguit.

Day 3 Qasigiannguit Town Tour and Visit to Qeqertasussuk
After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Qasigiannguit, stopping at the local museum which displays a great number of unique local findings. On Sundays, the museum may host an "open settlement" gathering, where locals dress in traditional seal skin clothes and display old traditions such as drum dancing, arts and crafts, seal skin clothes making and cooking on an open fire.

In the afternoon, travel by boat to an abandoned village in the hinterland and to Qeqertasussuk, an excavated settlement from the Saqqaq culture, where traces of early immigration in Greenland can be seen. Then continue to the village of Akulliit, for a coffee break and the chance to enjoy the picturesque scenery, before returning to Qasigiannguit. 2nd overnight in Qasigiannguit.

Day 4 Qasigiannguit – Ilimanaq
Today, join a guided hike to the top of Qaqqarsuaq Mountain, to be rewarded with an impressive view across the entire Disko Bay - you might see some of the many resident musk oxen. (The pace of the hike is slow, so everyone in regular good physical shape can participate, and it takes 4-6 hours).

Early this evening, continue north by boat to Ilimanaq, a 2 hour journey. As we approach Ilimanaq, the Ilulissat Icefjord becomes visible and you will start to see large icebergs on the horizon, a truly breath taking sight. On arrival at Ilimanaq, check in to your accommodation and enjoy the splendid view from the terrace of your private lodge, which sits on the Ilulissat Icefjord. 3 nights in Ilimanaq.

Day 5 Ilimanaq: Thule Culture and Icebergs
Today, wake up to a vista of icebergs! Enjoy this astonishing view from your lodge; watch the small fishing boats sail by, step out onto the terrace and breathe in the crisp morning air, feel the heat from the sun and perhaps spot a whale. This morning take a tour of the village, giving you an insight into the village history, the many interesting buildings and their historic function, and also a sense of how everyday life works in Greenland.

Later take a guided hike to the Ilulissat Icefjord and the old burial site of Northern Houses (Nordre Huse), located about 6 kilometres from Ilimanaq. Along the way, traces of early immigration, the Thule culture, appear as we get closer to one of the many hidden burial sites. Then you start to glimpse the large icebergs in Ilulissat Icefjord - in clear weather, you can see to the edge of the Ice Cap 65 kilometres away, resembling a wall of ice. Here the gigantic icebergs lie right in front of you, and the silence is only interrupted by the sound of the icebergs as they calve and move. 2nd night in Ilimanaq.

Day 6 Ilimanaq: Optional Secret Fjord, Glacier Hike & ATV Excursion.
Today you can join an optional excursion to a "secret fjord". Start by taking a boat about 2km south of Ilimanaq, and from here drive on ATV's to the Tasiusaq Fjord, from where we continue by boat to the end of the fjord. Then hike to the edge of the Ice Cap and begin the glacier hike. Your experienced guide will assist you all the way, as you explore crevices and wells in the ice. Lunch and snacks are included. Then return to the lodge, for the 3rd overnight in Ilimanaq.

Day 7 Ilimanaq – Ilulissat: Optional Midnight Cruise on the Icefjords
After breakfast, early departure by boat to Ilulissat, on a spectacular ride passing the giant icebergs at the estuary of the Ilulissat Icefjord. On arrival transfer to the hotel and check in, followed by a guided walk around the town.  Ilulissat was founded in 1741 by Danish settlers and your guide will tell you about the town's history, and about life in a modern Greenlandic town. Several stops are made along the way including the harbour and the "board" where the catch of the day is sold. In the afternoon, time at leisure. Visit one of the town's museums, browse the local shops and enjoy some refreshments or a light meal in one of the cafés in the town centre while soaking up the atmosphere.  3 nights in Ilulissat.

Tonight you can join an optional Midnight Cruise on the Icefjords, uder the midnight sun. Each year, more than 48 cubic kilometres of ice flow from the Ilulissat Glacier and into the Icefjord. This results in enormous icebergs measuring up to several hundred metres on each side and towering more than 100 metres above sea level flowing toward the sea. At the fjord estuary, the icebergs run aground, allowing us to sail really close to them. 2.5hrs

Day 8 Ilulissat: Hike to Sermermiut and Optional Whale Watching Cruise
Today enjoy a guided light hike to Sermermiut; Sermermiut means "the glacier dwellers," and for more than 4,000 years, different inuit cultures inhabited this fertile valley, about 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Ilulissat, where you can enjoy the wildflowers as well as the view of the fantastic icebergs. The hike is an easy one along a path.  2nd overnight in Ilulissat.

Today you can also join an optional Whale Watching Cruise. There are about 15 species of whale in Greenland including the humpback whale, the minke whale and the fin whale, and they abound in the Disko Bay area during summer. Your cruise boat will take you very close to the whales in their natural element. 3.5hrs.

Day 9 Ilulissat: Day at Leisure or Optional Boat trip to the Calving Eqi Glacier
Another day at leisure to explore Ilulissat on your own. Or you can join an optional day trip to the calving Eqi Glacier, 80 kilometres north of Ilulissat.  Here you can get very close to the calving glacier front, and experience the thrill of  large chunks of ice falling into the water - the crashes are deafening, and the sight of icebergs tumbling into the water is mesmerising.  The comfortable boat floats in front of the glacier for approximately two hours, waiting for the glacier to calve, and lunch is served on board. The route from Ilulissat takes you along the coast, past many interesting places including Bredebugt, Oqaatsut village, the large Pakitsoq fjord system, where whales and seals often play in the water, and through Ataa Sund, which is surrounded by tall, steep mountains with birdlife and waterfalls. 3rd overnight in Ilulissat.

Day 10 Ilulissat – Kangerlussuaq - Copenhagen
