This small group escorted tour takes you from Reykjavik, Iceland, to Ilulissat, West Greenland. As a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Ilulissat Icefjord is an astonishing place, filled with enormous icebergs formed by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere, Sermeq Kujalleq. Experience the glacial beauty of this area with a walking tour of the town, a vist by boat to the amazing Eqi Glacier, an excursion to a local Inuit settlement and more.

Day 1 Reykjavík Arrival
On arrival in Reykjavík, transfer by coach to your hotel and remainder of day at leisure to explore this fascinating far northern city. The city centre is a small area characterised by eclectic and colourful houses, good shopping, dining and drinking. Reykjavík has recently established itself as a haven for food lovers, with numerous restaurants taking advantage of the abundance of local seafood, meat and game.

Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archaeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Day 2  Reykjavik - Ilulissat, Greenland
Breakfast at your hotel then transfer to the Reykjavik Domestic Airport for the flight to Greenland. Arrive around noon at the picturesque town of Ilulissat, beautifully located at the mouth of a long Icefjord, filled with enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Meet your local guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

After check-in, enjoy a welcome meeting and briefing on Greenland and your choices for various optional activities during your stay (these optional activites are purchased locally). Then enjoy a guided walking tour in the centre of the town, to learn about modern life close to the Arctic Circle. Return to the hotel for a welcome dinner.

Day 3  Ilulissat: Eqi Glacier Excursion
Morning pick up from your hotel for a day tour to the Eqi glacier. Very few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi glacier, thrusting out in a fjord north of Ilulissat. Sail to the very edge of the glacier’s frontline rising 80-90 metres above the surface of the ocean and enjoy lunch on board. Watch big chunks of heavy ice break off the glacier and tremble intensely into the water, enormous collisions, sight of icebergs shattering and not to mention the sound, is impressive. Afterwards drive back to the hotel where your evening is at leisure.

Day 4  Ilulissat: Old Settlements
In the morning, hike to the remains of the old settlement Sermermiut, situated by the Ice-fjord. The hike is about 2 hours and is an easy one. Once there, meet the locals and listen to the story about life and customs of the Greenlanders before European arrival, whilst enjoying incredible views of the icebergs in the fjord.

The afternoon is free for you to relax, visit the small local museums or do some shopping for unique souvenirs such as tupilaks, the exquisitely carved bone souvenirs fashioned by local craftsmen.. Farewell dinner at the hotel tonight.

Day 5 Ilulissat - Reykajvik
Enjoy your final vistas of beautiful icebergs in the fjord before the transfer to the airport in Ilulissat, and your flight to Reykjavik, followed by a transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
