The small town of Kemi sits on Europe’s largest ice field, the frozen Bothnian Bay. On this short tour enjoy the best of winter fun Kemi with a snowshoe walk, ice fishing, a husky safari, a fantastic cruise on the Sampo Ice Breaker and a Hunt for the Northern Lights.

This tour is only suitable for persons 15 years or over.

Day 1 Wednesday Rovaniemi - Kemi
On arrival into Rovaniemi Airport transfer to your accommodation in Kemi. Perhaps enjoy a delightful Finnish sauna before dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 Thursday Kemi: Guided Snowshoe Walk & Ice Fishing
Today enjoy a day of Arctic fun in the winter wilderness, seeing the beauty of untouched snowy forests and listening to the sounds of silence.

Start with a snowshoe trip to a local secret spot. Historians believe the origin of the snowshoe dates back to 4000 BC, inspired by animals such as the snow hare, with it's oversized feet that enable it to move quickly through deep snow. Enjoy the beautiful nature of Lapland in silence as you glide on top of the snow, and with some luck, you may also see native local animals or the footprints of wild animals.

Then it's time for ice fishing-  your guide will take you to a beautiful arctic lake or to the river, where you will learn how to drill a hole in the ice, and hopefully how to catch yourself a fish! There are perch, trout and arctic char to be found here, living under 1 metre of ice.  A light lunch in a tepee is served during the day. Then in the afternoon enjoy an introduction to Finnish sauna culture and snow baths. Return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3 Friday Guided Husky Safari, Ice Breaker Cruise & Northern Lights Walk
This morning visit a husky farm - meet the happy, friendly dogs and join a 2 hour sledding safari traversing the beautiful wilderness, with 2 persons on each sled, taking turns to steer the dogs. After the safari warm up with hot drinks by an open fire. This afternoon it's time for something very different - a cruise on the ice breaker Sampo on the Gulf of Bothnia. The vessel was first operated as an icebreaker for the Finnish government, and has been used for tourism since 1988. The cruise offers you some exciting and memorable moments - while the huge vessel breaks ice, you can admire the beauty of the vast open ice fields all around, and the ever changing sky above. Plus you can try floating on the frozen sea, wearing special survival flotation dry suits.

Later today if you are travelling between February and April you can add an optional visit to the wonderful Kemi Snow Castle. Dinner at the hotel tonight, as well as a guided Hunt for the Northern Lights walk.

Day 4 Saturday Snowmobile Adventure
Today is all about snowmobile fun! Enjoy the excitement and thrill of guided snowmobiling in the beautiful area of the Kätkävaara mountains, travelling across frozen streams and lakes, through forests and snowy landscapes, all the while admiring beautiful mountain views. 2 persons  share each snowmobile and there is a stop during the day for a light lunch by open fire. Dinner at the hotel tonight.
