Stay in a log cabin and in a Glass Igloo, at Kakslauttanen, Northern Finland, located in the remote and beautiful Saariselka fell area of Urho Kekkonen National Park. Enjoy a Husky Safari and a Reindeer Safari, plus there are many different other activities on offer, with something for everyone. At night, you may even see the Aurora Borealis as it lights up the night sky. Here, in this quiet and forested country area, there is no light pollution, and all you have to do to seek the Northern Lights is go outside and look up.............

Day 1 Ivalo – Kakslauttanen
Transfer from Ivalo Airport to Kakslauttanen. On your arrival at the Resort your luggage will be taken to your cabin, whilst you walk. Tonight you will stay in a cosy log cabin, which has a kitchenette, fireplace, private facilities and a sauna. The cabins come in various sizes, sleeping from 2–10 persons. The remainder of the day at leisure -  perhaps visit the glass kota & ice chapel within the village. Or enjoy some of the other optional excursions which include a snowmobile safari, ice-fishing & snow tank rides. 

Day 2  Husky Safari
After an introduction and safety briefing, start out on a 4 hour guided, dog-sledding safari. Experience the wonders of winter nature as you travel over snowy tracks & through forests. Lunch is served before returning to the village. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3  Reindeer Safari with Snowmobiling  & Overnight Glass Igloo
Today enjoy an exciting visit to a reindeer farm by snowmobile. After a safety briefing and driving lesson we drive across the snowy landscapes, with 2 persons sharing  each snowmobile. On reaching the local reindeer farm learn all about the Sami peoples’ traditions & ways of life, before a short reindeer sleigh ride. Lunch is served in a herdsman’s hut during the excursion. (If you have small children or do not have a driver's license, you can instead join a shorter reindeer safari which does not include any snowmobiling). Then return to the village, and time at leisure. 

Tonight you will stay in a Glass Igloo - a truly different experience! Your luggage will be picked up from your cabin and stored in the hotel's Luggage Room, whilst you walk or take the shuttle to the Reception desk, to check in to your Igloo.

As you lay in comfort and gaze up through the glass roof, you might you see the amazing Aurora Borealis. Room temperature inside. Small glass igloos have a toilet and washbasin and shared saunas and private showers are located in a separate nearby building where towels, hair dryer, shampoo and soap are available.  Large Glass Igloos also have a shower. Every Glass Igloo has a glass roof, so you can lie in bed and watch the night skies…………maybe the Northern Lights will come out and play!

Day 4  Kakslauttanen – Ivalo
Enjoy a morning sauna and breakfast, before transferring to Ivalo Airport.

The day of your overnight stay in the Igloo will vary according to availability. The excursions may alter according to the day of the week your arrangements start.

Snowmobile Safaris: To drive a snowmobile you must have a valid driving license and be 18 years of age or over. All single travellers must drive their own snowmobile solo. Children over 130cm in height may sit as a passenger behind an adult driver on a snowmobile only if the child is paying the adult price. Children under 130 cm in height sit in a sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Children under 2 are not permitted on snowmobile safaris. Please note in the event of extreme weather or poor trail conditions small children may not be allowed to participate in safaris.

Husky Safaris: To drive a husky sled you must weigh at least 45kg. Children under 18 years usually travel in one big sled driven by the guide. During the shorter safaris a maximum of 2 adults + 2 children may be permitted to share one sled driven by the adults. During the longer safaris 2 adults usually drive each sled in pairs and all children sit together in one big sled driven by the guide. The guide has the discretion to decide who may or may sit in a sled driven by adults and who must sit in the guide’s sled for all safaris. Children under 2 are not permitted on husky safaris. Please note in the event of extreme weather or poor trail conditions small children may not be allowed to participate in safaris

The excursions operate with a minimum of 2 persons - if you are a solo traveller and there is no second person booked on an excursion, you may be required to pay additional fees in order for the excursion to proceed.
