Stay in a log cabin and a Glass or Snow Igloo, at Kakslauttanen, Northern Finland, located in the remote and beautiful Saariselka fell area of Urho Kekkonen National Park. There are many different activities on offer, with something for everyone to enjoy. At night, you may even see the Aurora Borealis as it lights up the night sky.

Day 1 Ivalo – Kakslauttanen
Transfer from Ivalo Airport to Kakslauttanen. Cosy log cabins have a kitchenette, private facilities + sauna and come in various sizes, sleeping from 2–10 persons. The remainder of the day at leisure, perhaps visit the glass kota & ice chapel within the village. Or enjoy some of the other optional excursions which include a snowmobile safari, ice-fishing & snow tank rides. 

Day 2  Husky Safari
After an introduction and safety briefing, start out on a 4 hour guided, dog-sledding safari. Experience the wonders of winter nature as you travel over snowy tracks & through forests. Lunch is served before returning to the village. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3  Reindeer Safari with Snowmobiling  & Overnight Glass or Snow Igloo
Today enjoy an exciting visit to a reindeer farm by snowmobile. After a safety briefing and driving lesson we drive across the snowy lanscapes, with 2 persons sharing  each snowmobile. On reaching the local reindeer farm learn all about the Sami peoples’ traditions & ways of life, before a short reindeer sleigh ride. Lunch is served in a herdsman’s hut during the excursion. (If you have small children or do not have a driver's license, you can instead join a shorter reindeer safari which does not include any snowmobiling). Then return to the village, and time at leisure. Perhaps visit the Ice Gallery, Ice Bar and Ice Chapel. Overnight in a Snow Igloo (from January to March only) or a  Glass Igloo- a truly different experience! 

Snow Igloos: ice lights illuminate the igloo; thermal sleeping bag, wool socks, and a hood are provided. Inside temperature is minus 3 to minus 6°C. Please note there is no electricity or water in the Snow Igloo and bathroom and luggage facilites are in a nearby building. Children under 8 years are not permitted to stay in the Snow Igloo and the igloos are not constructed each year until late December.

Glass Igloos: as you lay in comfort and gaze up through the glass roof, you might you see the amazing Aurora Borealis. Room temperature inside. Each igloo has a small toilet and washbasin and larger igloos also have a shower.

Day 4  Kakslauttanen – Ivalo
Enjoy a morning sauna, before transferring to Ivalo Airport.

The day of your overnight stay in the Igloo will vary according to availability. If you prefer not to stay in an Igloo you can stay all nights in a log cabin instead.

Includes: Return transfers Ivalo Airport/hotel; 2 nights in small log cabin; 1 night in snow or small glass igloo; daily breakfast and dinner; luggage assistance reception/cabin; daily cleaning; 1 firewood service; guided 4 hr dog sled safari including light lunch; guided 4 hour Reindeer Safari and Farm Visit with snowmobiling including light lunch.

Excludes: Optional activities

The excursions operate with a minimum of 2 persons - if you are a solo traveller and there is no second person booked on an excursion, you may be required to pay additional fees in order for the excursion to proceed. Please note the order of the excursions may alter according to the day of the week your arrangements start.

Snowmobile Safaris: To drive a snowmobile you must have a valid driving license and be 18 years of age or over. All single travellers must drive their own snowmobile solo. Children over 130cm in height may sit as a passenger behind an adult driver on a snowmobile only if the child is paying the adult price. Children under 130 cm in height sit in a sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Children under 2 are not permitted on snowmobile safaris. Please note in the event of extreme weather or poor trail conditions small children may not be allowed to participate in safaris.

Husky Safaris: To drive a husky sled you must weigh at least 45kg. Children under 18 years usually travel in one big sled driven by the guide. During the shorter safaris a maximum of 2 adults + 2 children may be permitted to share one sled driven by the adults. During the longer safaris 2 adults usually drive each sled in pairs and all children sit together in one big sled driven by the guide. The guide has the discretion to decide who may or may sit in a sled driven by adults and who must sit in the guide’s sled for all safaris. Children under 2 are not permitted on husky safaris. Please note in the event of extreme weather or poor trail conditions small children may not be allowed to participate in safaris

Snow Igloos are built each year from snow and ice and are therefore only available from January to March, cold weather permitting! Children under 8 years are not permitted to stay in a Snow Igloo.
