Reykjavik is an enchanting city during the winter holiday season- the city is decked with Christmas lights in every window, and the frosty air is crisp and cold. Enjoy the festive season in the city, with a hunt for the Northern Lights,  a private walking tour with the focus on Christmas traditions, a taste of Icelandic Christmas treats and specialities and an exploration of the Golden Circle’s winter landscape, including Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss Waterfall and Thingvellir National Park.

Day 1 Reykjavik Arrival  and Northern Lights Hunt.
On arrival at Keflavik Airport transfer by coach to your hotel. (If your flight time allows, you can add an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon, just a short drive from the airport. The Lagoon has luggage storage facilities, and after bathing you can continue into Reykjavik by coach to your hotel. Please note you need to allow at least 2 hours for a Blue Lagoon visit.)

Time at leisure. Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

In the evening  join a hunt for the fabled Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. These lights are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing in fantastic colours across the Icelandic night sky. Please note this tour is weather dependent, and sightings are not guaranteed. If conditions do not allow the operation of this excursion, instead you will visit the Northern Lights Center in Reykjavik. 3 nights in Reykjavik at the Icelandair Hotel Natura.

Day 2 Reykjavik: Golden Circle Gulfoss Waterfall, Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area and Traditional Icelandic Christmas Buffet
After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel at around 09:30am. Today you will experience the trio of natural wonders that together form the Golden Circle route in South Iceland. Highlights include the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall, which is often frozen mid-cascade during winter; the active Geysir geothermal area of bubbling mud pools, hot springs and spouting geysers; and Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) Iceland's greatest historical site.  Thingvellir is also of tremendous geological interest, as it is the visible location of the mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. (please note if you are on the tour starting on 23 December today you will enjoy the walking tour and tomorrow 24 December you will visit the Golden Circle).

In the evening, enjoy an Icelandic Christmas feast at Restaurant Satt. The true yuletide spirit is delivered with a deluxe gourmet buffet of distinctive heritage dishes based on local and Scandinavian ingredients.
