Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar). Discover the splendid beauty and historic landmarks of the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar), situated just off Iceland's South Coast. The islands are best known as the home of one of the largest puffin colonies in the world, and as the site of the huge 1937 volcanic eruption, which let to the complete evacuation of the islands and the birth  of brand new islands.

Day 1: Reykjavik - Westman Islands
Today make your own way to Reykjavik Domestic Airport for the flight to Heimaey on the Westman Islands. Your exact departure time is dependent on the  flight schedule for your dates of travel. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel and check in. Time at leisure- there is a lot to discover on the island. Take a walk in the town centre and visit any of the great museums, such as the Eldheimar Museum, or take a dip in the local saltwater swimming pool. The island also has a great – and challenging-- golf course.  In the evening, enjoy dining at one of the charming, cosy restaurants.

Day 2: Day at leisure. 
Visit the Heimay Visitor's Centre for ideas on how best to spend your day. Perhaps learn about the island's history and culture, with visits to local workshops and a local home, or explore the Islands from the sea, on a guided RIB boat tour from Heimaey, where you'll witness towering birdcliffs famous for their puffin colonies, sail into sea caves and perhaps seals and whales.

Day 3: Return to Reykjavik
Today make your own way to the airport, for the short flight back to Reykjavik Domestic Airport. Your exact departure time is dependent on the  flight schedule for your dates of travel. On arrival back at the airport, your extension tour arrangements end.

Egilsstadir: Located in east Iceland on the banks of Lagarfljót river, Egilsstadir is known for its natural beauty and mild climate, and for the area's woodlands, something special for Iceland!  Nearby waterfalls, lakes and rivers make this a lovely place to spend a few days. The East is also home to Iceland‘s only reindeer herd, and local legends tell of hidden elves and mysterious monsters. The East Fjords are one of the oldest regions in Iceland, shaped by glaciers during the Ice Age. Although many are uninhabited, each fjord has its own grandeur. The natural harbours in the fjords led to the development of pretty fishing villages that have maintained a sense of Old World charm and the area is packed with enjoyable forest walks and trails into nearby mountain ranges.

Day 1 Reykjavik - Egilsstadir
Today make your own way to Reykjavik Domestic Airport for the flight to Egilsstadir. Your exact departure time is dependent on the  flight schedule for your dates of travel. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel and check in. Time at leisure - take a walk in the town centre, visit the museums and enjoy the green surroundings.

Day 2: Day at leisure. 
Visit the Egilsstadir Visitor's Centre for ideas on how best to spend your day - perhaps visit the Wilderness Centre, hike to Hengifoss Waterfall, take an ATV tour into the East Highlands, go horse riding or take one of the many walks and hikes.

Day 3: Return to Reykjavik

Akureyri: This charming town is Iceland's northern capital, and sits on the north coast under snowcapped peaks, at the head of Iceland’s longest fjord. The town is a great base for exploring the north's green pastures, fishing villages, mudpots, waterfalls, and whale-filled bays, whilst signs of the earth’s power – glaciers, volcanoes, lava fields and stacks of basalt – are everywhere.

Day 1: Reykjavik - Akureyri
Today make your own way to Reykjavik Domestic Airport for the flight to Akureyri. Your exact departure time is dependent on the  flight schedule for your dates of travel. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel and check in. Time at leisure - take a walk in the town centre, visit the museums, the Botanic Gardens, or one of the many galleries and shops.

Day 2: Day at Leisure
Visit the local tourist information centre for ideas on how to spend your time. Perhaps visit the Lake Myvatn area, striking Godafoss waterfall,  the pseudo-craters and the lava pillars at Dimmuborgir, experience the boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits at the geothermal area of Hverir, or enjoy the natural hot springs of the Myvatn Nature Baths, or take a guided walk of the town.  

Day 3: Return to Reykjavik

There are many ways you can relax in Husavik. Visit the new Exploration Museum, which commemorates the role Iceland has played in international – and outer space – exploration, discover the Husavik Culture House with its maritime museum, natural history museum, folk museum, district archives and an art gallery.  Walk along a rare beach known for its ancient sea fossils, most which are over 3 million years old! And make sure you visit the Husavik Whale Museum, with exhibitions on whale species, their evolution and biology, as well as the history of whaling in Iceland. Or visit the local tourist information centre for further ideas.

Day 3: Return to Reykjavik

Isafjordur: Isafjordur is the main town of the Westfjords peninsula, in the North-West corner of Iceland, and the town stands on a narrow spit in the fjord Skutulsfjordur, surrounded by mountains with endless opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty and wilderness of this remote area. The remote Westfjords are a distinct region differing  from the rest of the country both historically and geologically, with rock formations up to 14 million years old. In the Westfjords, land meets sea in the most dramatic terms imaginable, with sheer mountains rising from the sea and deep fjords dotted with tiny fishing villages. Since the days of settlement, the inhabitants in the westfjords have lived their lives somewhat isolated from the outside world, creating an independent and endearing local culture.

Day 2: Day at leisure. 
Visit the Isafjordur Visitor's Centre for ideas on how best to spend your day - perhaps hire a bike or take one of the many hikes or walks, or take a tour to enjoy the scenic views of Dynjandi waterfall. Or enjoy boat trips and sea kayaking around the fjords, visits to the nearby islands, day tours to nearby communities, each with its own distinct culture, and to remote nature reserves populated by seabirds and Arctic foxes.  Outdoor adventures include hiking and horseback riding.

Day 3: Return to Reykjavik
