Experience Norway’s far North from the town of Alta, where the blue light of winter glows over the landscape. Around 1–2 o’clock each afternoon, the residual light of day is reflected off the blue of the sea and the white snow, and the landscape is bathed in a glassy deep blue colour. On this itinerary, explore the local Sami culture with activities that bring you close to nature and the people of the North. Spend a night at the famous Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, enjoy husky, snowmobile and reindeer safaris, a snowshoe walk with ice fishing, and an  ATV ride, You’ll even venture up to the awe inspiring North Cape and spend a night in Honningsvag!

Day 1: Welcome to Alta and Aurora Hunt
On arrival in Alta transfer to your hotel and check in. Time at leisure then this evening start your adventures with a hunt for the fabled Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights!  Your local guide will take you to the best viewpoints far away from any sources of light pollution, give you plenty of tips for capturing the best photos possible, and tell you all about the myths and legends of this extraordinary natural phenomena.

Day 2: Fjord Cruise & Aurora Husky Sledding
Today explore the beautiful fjord near Alta by boat. You will have a chance to birdwatch, enjoy the varied and fascinating coastline and learn about local history along the way. Then get ready for your evening guided Husky Safari. After a safety briefing and driving instructions, you're off! You'll be amazed by the strength and speed of these hard working dogs, as they glide across the snowy ground, through the twilight. Warm up with hot drinks and snacks on your return to the husky ranch, where your host will tell you all about life as a professional dog "musher".

Day 3: Sami Culture & Reindeer Sledding and Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel
Today head out with your local guide by private car to the tiny Sami town of Maze. Here the latest generation in a long line of reindeer herding families will welcome you, and show you many aspects of their traditional lifestyle, including the Sami tents or lavvu, the colourful clothing and the unique food. You will also hear "joik", the extraordinary Sami form of a capella singing. There will be also be a fun ride in a reindeer sled. The sled ride is at a slow pace, so you can enjoy the stillness and peace of the delightful natural surroundings.

From Maze transfer to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, the world's northernmost Igloo Hotel. Feel the silence of the sturdy walls and soft snow floor, and marvel at the ice sculptures and snow carvings that are created every year.  Inside the hotel you'll find the Ice Bar where you can sample a special Sorrisniva Igloo drink from a handmade ice glass. Take a walk under the vast, arctic sky and enjoy the crisp air of winter. Tonight retire for a very different  sleep. You will rest on a mattress sitting on a bed made from ice, nestled cosily in blankets. The silence of the room will astound you - the thick walls of ice create a peaceful and calm environment.  Warm bathroom facilities are just near by.

Day 4: Snowshoe Walk & Ice Fishing and Snowmobile Safari
This morning enjoy a sauna and breakfast at the Igloo Hotel. Then strap on the snowshoes and head out into the forest, with your guide and a happy husky who will be pulling a "pulka" or small sled with the fishing gear. Look for animal tracks and enjoy the crisp forest air, as you  experience this very traditional and ancient method of getting around. When you reach the secret ice fishing spot, drill into the ice and see what you can catch. Lunch in a lavvo around the open fire (maybe feasting on the fish you have just caught!) before snowshoeing back.

This evening experience the beautiful Norwegian wilderness, with stunning views of mountains and sea in Storekorsnes, 45 minutes from Alta. Here you'll enjoy a guided Snowmobile safari which will take you along these spectacular coastlines to a great viewpoint. With no light pollution, there is a good chance to see the Northern Lights. 2 persons share each snowmobile.

Day 5: North Cape Visit and Honningsvag Overnight
The North Cape has been celebrated for hundreds of years as the Northernmost point in mainland Europe. Journey from Alta to Honningsvag and then to North Cape by coach, watching the passing frozen wilderness in comfort. At the North Cape, walk out to globe marker at the edge of the cliff for some great photos and views, and  explore the Visitor's Centre. Then take the coach to the town of Honningsvag and check in at the cosy, harbuorside Scandic Bryggen hotel (or similar), where you will spend the night.
