"Went to Camp Tamok with my daughter to do the dog sledding and visit the ice dome. we had a brilliant experience. The guide on the dog sledding was great, the sledding was brilliant fun, hard work but a great way to experience the beautiful scenery. The Husky dogs were gorgeous and made you realise how valuable they have been in expeditions. The ice dome was beautiful, we had a light lunch of reindeer stew and a Norwegian desert Lefse with tea and coffee. Great short film of how they built the dome, really amazing work." -Jackie, London 2018.

Tromso sits in northern Norway, above the Arctic Circle and is famous as a viewing point for the Northern Lights. The city’s historic centre, on the island of Tromsø, has charming centuries-old wooden houses and the  Arctic Cathedral, with its distinctive peaked roof and soaring stained-glass windows, dominates the skyline. Enjoy time in Tromso itself, then travel to a fantastic wilderness camp for an overnight stay. Out here, away from the city, no light pollution interrupts your views of the Northern Lights. At the camp search for the Northern Lights by snowmobile or reindeer sled and try dog-sledding in the valleys - a true winter adventure!

Day 1 Tromsø Arrival
On arrival in Tromso make your own way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this university town with it's lively atmosphere. We recommend visits to the Arctic Cathedral for it’s daring architecture, Polaria Aquarium (don’t miss the Northern Lights & Spitsbergen Arctic Wilderness films), the Polar Museum to learn about the role Tromsø has played in Arctic exploration, and the MS Polstjerna, a well preserved sailing vessel from 1949.

Day 2 Tromsø – Wilderness Camp: Reindeer Sledding or Snowmobile Safari
Day at leisure, before your 17:00hrs pick up outside the Scandic Ishavshotel in downtown Tromso, and transfer to the wilderness camp, around 75 minutes drive away. The camp is located in a climatic zone of stable, dry weather, with many days of clear skies, and is therefore an excellent place for spotting the Aurora Borealis, and the dark and quiet surroundings hold a genuine Arctic atmosphere. Also, in this uninhabited area, no artificial light will disturb your experience!

On arrival at the camp you will be provided with warm outer clothing (boots, socks, gloves, hat and thermal overalls) for use during your stay, then get ready for your evening Northern Lights excursion  - you can choose between a Snowmobile Safari* or a Reindeer Sled ride.

Snowmobile Safari: This exhilarating and exciting tour takes you through the dramatic, snow covered Finn valley, past scenic mountains starting at 250m above sea level and soaring to 900m. You'll spend about 90 minutes on the snowmobile. 2 persons usually share each snowmobile, but you can drive solo for a supplement. *Please note snowmobile safaris do not operate until 01 December so if you are visiting prior to then. you will only be able to do the Reindeer Safari tonight.

Reindeer Sledding: the oldest form of transport in the north & an ancient part of Sami culture. Driving in pairs, with one sled per reindeer, sit tucked cosily with blankets around you as you travel comfortably across the valley of Tamok. About 90 minutes is spent on the safari.

After your chosen excursion, return to the camp for the tasty but simple traditional Norwegian evening meal, which is served at around 21:15hrs. Then enjoy a stroll around the Camp grounds, looking up at the night skies and searching for the Aurora, before retiring for the night.

Day 3 Husky Safari and Return to Tromsø
This morning enjoy a hearty breakfast then your team of eager huskies is waiting to take you dog-sledding. Begin with a  safety and driving  instruction session about how to be a musher, then set off, driving your own dog team. 2 persons share the driving of each sled, and you can swap drivers half way. Head out across white landscapes, through the beautiful Vassdalen valley (an approximate distance of 15km return). After your safari return to the Camp, then at approxiamtely 14:30 transfer back to Tromsø, arriving at the downtown drop off point at around 16:00hrs. Overnight in Tromso in an hotel tonight.
