Itinerary

Day 1 Longyearbyen Arrival

On arrival in Longyearbyen take the coach transfer to your hotel. Time to explore the town - perhaps visit the Svalbard Museum, the North Pole Expedition Museum and the Svalbard Kirke, or browse the shops for a unique souvenir. Overnight at Basecamp Hotel Longyearbyen.

Day 2 Longyearbyen - Cape Linnè: Isfjord Radio & Guided Station Walk

Morning at leisure. This afternoon meet your guide in the hotel lobby, then transfer to the quay, where the boat is waiting to start the trip to Isfjord Radio (departing at approximately 3pm). On the way, enjoy the fantastic fjord scenery and the wildlife including Arctic seabirds. Isfjord Radio Hotel was built in 1933 as an outpost for radio operators and today it is a modern hotel, surrounded by wild coastal landscape. Far from civilization, with no road connection, the only way of arrival in summer is by boat safari across the Arctic Ocean.

Later join a Guided Station Walk - the walk will vary depending on the weather and the time of year, so your exact experience can differ, but it will always include lots of information from your guide about the life of trappers on Svalbard, the local flora, fauna, geology, and birdlife, as well as bird and wildlife watching, as we look for seals, whales and walruses and others. Time for a sauna before dinner.

Tonight, just as the original residents of the outpost did decades ago, you'll gather around the table for dinner to try some amazing tastes from the Arctic, such as smoked seal, whale, halibut with roe butter and reindeer sausage. Most of the meat here is hunted by one of the three trappers left in Spitsbergen, and prepared in Isfjord Radio's kitchen.

Day 3 Isfjord Radio Guided Excursion

Today keep a look out for "Big Five of Svalbard"- Polar Bear, Walrus, Arctic Fox, Svalbard Reindeer and Ivory Gull. Isfjord Radio Hotel is the perfect location to do this. Guided excursion today departing at approximately 10am, including lunch, depending on the day of the week either - RIB Safari to Alkehornet Birdcliff and Esmark Glacier 5hrs or Hike at Isfjord Radio 6hrs. On arrival back at the hotel, there is time to relax or go for an Arctic Sauna.Tonight enjoy another memorable evening - if the weather permits we might gather around the bonfire, before another tasty dinner indoors. 2nd overnight at Isfjord Radio.

Day 4 Isfjord Radio - Longyearbyen

Breakfast then day at leisure - perhaps take a dip in the Arctic waters then warm up in the Hotel's sauna, or add an optional excursion 5-6hrs. Afternoon trip by boat (departing at approximately 5pm) through the fjord and back to Longyearbyen. Overnight at Basecamp Hotel Longyearbyen.
