"Our captain put together a warm and salty stew for our adventures in search of glaciers, sheltered fjords and seals. Extra warming pads for feet and hand kept us warmer as we boated an hour north. Spectacular white mountains with huge glaciers greeted us along with a few seals telling us no polar bears were nearby. 2 boats of skiers from Tromso were the only other humans around. We enjoyed a glassy sea and the Midnight Sun on a warmer ride back thanks to top and bottom foot and hand warmers. Our best adventure yet in our 67 and 70 years!" -John L. 2017

"The best time of my life up in Svalbard! Wonderful from the first smiling people on the hotel desk to the heartfelt goodbye on our final day. Great accommodation, excursions, value for money, people and everything else. Can’t wait to come back again." -Tracy V, Perth 2018

Svalbard means 'the cold coasts' and was first mentioned in Icelandic texts in the 12th Century. It is a truly unique place of wild nature, glaciers & polar bears. Over 60% of Svalbard is a protected area, including 3 nature reserves, 6 national parks & 15 bird sanctuaries. Austfonna, the world's 3rd largest icecap, is here and has a glacier front of over 200km. Visit the archipelago's main island of Spitsbergen - here after mid-May the snow quickly disappears. Small flowers start to appear along the mountainsides and the sounds of bird life replace the quiet of winter. You can hear glaciers calving and see vast blue fjords filled with floating ice. The midnight sun makes it possible to explore Spitsbergen over long days and even into the night.

Experience magnificent Arctic scenery close up, on a summer adventure to beautiful Isfjord Radio at Cape Linnè. Travel into an area far away from civilization, where you’ll discover history, biological diversity and unique geological conditions. Plus enjoy time in Longyearbyen, the small capital town.

You can choose between a 4 or 5 day tour. The 4 day tour includes a day trip only to Isfjord Radio and has this itinerary: Day 1 arrival, Day 2 day trip to Isfjord Radio, Day 3 at leisure in Longyearbyen, Day 4 departure. The itinerary shown below is for the 5 day tour.

Day 1 Longyearbyen Arrival
On arrival in Longyearbyen take the coach transfer to your hotel. Time to explore the town - perhaps visit the Svalbard Museum, the North Pole Expedition Museum and the Svalbard Kirke, or browse the shops for a unique souvenir. Overnight at Basecamp Hotel or similar in Longyearbyen.

Day 2 Longyearbyen - Cape Linnè: Isfjord Radio & Guided Walk
This morning meet your guide in the hotel lobby at about 10:00am, then transfer to the quay, where the polar circle boat is waiting to start the trip to Isfjord Radio. On the way, enjoy the fantastic fjord scenery and the wildlife including Arctic seabirds, with several stops for photos. Then arrive at the hotel, where you will stay for the night. The Hotel was built in 1933 as an outpost for radio operators and today it is a modern luxury hotel, surrounded by wild coastal landscape. Just as the original residents of the outpost did decades ago, you'll gather around the table for dinner tonight for some amazing tastes from the Arctic, such as smoked seal, whale, halibut with roe butter and reindeer sausage. Most of the meat here is hunted by one of the three trappers left in Spitsbergen, and prepared in Isfjord Radio's kitchen.

This afternoon enjoy a guided two hour walk with the added company of one of the local huskies! The  walk will vary depending on the weather and the time of year, so your exact experience can differ, but the walk will always include lots of information from your guide about the life of trappers on Svalbard, the local flora, fauna, geology, and birdlife, as well as bird and wildlife watching, as we look for seals, whales and walruses and others. Overnight at Isfjord Radio Hotel with dinner.

Day 3 Isfjord Radio - Longyearbyen
Breakfast then morning at leisure - perhaps take a dip in the Arctic waters then warm up in the Hotel's sauna -  before your afternoon trip by boat (departing at approximately 3pm) through the fjord and back to Longyearbyen. Overnight at Basecamp Hotel or similar in Longyearbyen.

Day 4  Longyearbyen: Day at Leisure
Today perhaps enjoy one of the many great optional day excursions from Longyearbyen. These will vary according to your exact dates of travel but include Summer Dog Sledding in a wheeled cart drawn by happy huskies, a trip to the glacier by boat, guided hikes, and sailing. 2nd overnight at Basecamp Hotel or similar.
