Experience the very best of the Nordic region and more on this comprehensive journey. From Copenhagen we travel to Oslo, the Norwegian fjords, Bergen, Stockholm, Tallinn, Helsinki and St Petersburg. Plus you can then add an extension tour to Moscow. Be amazed by the contrasts, from Viking Capitals to the wild nature of the Norwegian Fjords, to the enchanting palaces of St Petersburg, and enjoy the true essence, history and beauty of the north!

Day 1: Arrival in Copenhagen
On arrival in Copenhagen, transfer to your hotel and time at leisure. The city is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance of the city centre. Perhaps visit the Tivoli Gardens, the old harbour area of Nyhavn, now full of cafes, bars and restaurants, one of the many museums of art, culture, history and design, or stroll the charming pedestrian shopping streets of Strøget. At 19:00hrs tonight meet your tour leader and fellow travellers and receive your Welcome and Information programme. 2 nights at First Hotel Skt Petri or similar.

Day 2: Copenhagen City Sightseeing
This morning enjoy a 3 hour panoramic city sightseeing tour, the perfect introduction to "Wonderful Copenhagen". We start with a drive towards the City Hall Square where the famous pedestrian street "Stroget" begins. We pass the Tivoli Gardens, dating back to 1843 and on past the New Carlsberg Glyptotheque and the National Museum. Next is the Old Stock Exchange and the Naval Church, then Kings New Square, the home of the Royal Danish Theatre with the world famous ballet, then through the old canal area, Nyhavn, with its picturesque houses and vessels. We continue to the impressive Gefion Fountain and then make a photo stop at the Royal residence, Amalienborg Palace. We also view  Christiansborg Palace, housing the Danish Parliament and the Rosenborg Castle which houses the Crown Jewels. Finally we stop by the statue of the Little Mermaid. The afternoon is free. 2nd overnight in Copenhagen. 

Day 3: Copenhagen – Oslo by Overnight Ferry
After breakfast, the morning is at leisure. In the afternoon, transfer to the pier by private coach to board the overnight ferry, bound for Oslo, departing at approximately 16:30hrs.  Buffet dinner onboard, as you cruise the Kattegat Strait, and overnight in an outside cabin with breakfast and dinner.

Day 4: Oslo – Lofthus
Breakfast on board the ferry, and arrival into Oslo at around 09:45hrs. After disembarkation we board our coach and drive across Hønefoss and Nesbyen, in a landscape which alternates between forests of pines and lakes, to arrive in the beautiful Hallingdal Valley. Just a few kilometres away, we  visit Gol then Geilo, a small town surrounded by mountains and famous for its fresh air and beautiful views. We then drive to the impressive Hardanger fjord, and on to Lofthus, one of Edvard Grieg's favourite haunts, and one of the most beautiful points of the fjord. Dinner at your hotel tonight and overnight at Ullensvang Hotel. 

Day 5: Lofthus – Bergen
Today we leave Lofthus and travel back along the fjord to Brimnes where we cross Hardangerfjord on the wonderful Hardanger Bridge, one of the world's longest suspension bridges. We continue along the fjord, past  Nordheimsund and through forests of birches until we arrive in Bergen. Bergen is the capital of the fjords, Norway’s second largest city and one of 3 university cities. Early in the afternoon, meet our local guide at the hotel, for a 3-hour city sightseeing tour during which we will visit St. Marys Church, Haakon’s Hall, the colourful and picturesque fish markets and the old Bryggen area. The evening is at leisure. Overnight at Bergen Bors Hotel or similar. 

Day 6: Bergen - Flam - Loen
Early morning departure from Bergen and travel to the historic town of Voss, with a stunning background of snow clad mountains. Here, we board a train which will take us across the mountain plateau to Myrdal where we change to the world famous Flam railway, the highlight of the day. Experience one of the most spectacular of rail journeys, descending down from the mountain station of Myrdal to the quaint fjord village of Flam. Here, we have some free time before taking the afternoon ferry for a cruise along the lovely Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. The landscape here offers very strong contrasts - sometimes you will see rocks falling dramatically into the fjord and other times the waters turns a wonderful, smooth green. In Gudvangen we disembark and continue by coach through one of the largest tunnels of Norway, then on through Laerdal and Skei until we reach Loen, beautifully situated between mountains, lakes and fjords. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Alexandra in Loen. 

Day 7: Briksdal Glacier Optional Excursion Leon- Geiranger 
The morning is free to relax at the hotel. Or you might join an exciting optional excursion to the Briksdal Glacier, an arm of Europe’s largest glacier Jostedalsbreen. Here, we travel in small motorised "Troll" cars to the very tip  of the glacier and experience the breathtaking blue ice. We then return to the hotel and depart Loen to continue our journey through the wonderful Norwegian mountains to Dalsnibba, an observation point located 1,476 metres above sea level, with a spectacular view of the famous  UNESCO World Heritage listed Geiranger Fjord. (Please note the visit to Dalsnibba is subject to weather and cannot be guaranteed). Then on to Geiranger for check-in. Here we enjoy a special tour of the Veteran car collection of the Mjelva family at the local museum- a number of these beautiful cars were used to show tourists around the Geiranger area in the 1920’s and 1930’s and they are still in excellent condition. Dinner  and 2 nights at Union Hotel. 

Day 8: Geiranger Fjord Cruise & Trollstigen
This morning we take a ferry across the dramatic and impressive Geiranger Fjord, situated amongst lush mountains and wild waterfalls. Then travel on by coach from Hellesylt north to Trollstigen or Troll’s path, one of the most dramatic and spectacular areas in Norway. Travel the 11 hairpin turns on this stunning stretch of road that winds its way along just over 100 km of incredible landscape (weather permitting as road closures can occur). In the late afternoon, we arrive back at the hotel. 2nd night in Geiranger and dinner at the hotel.

Day 9: Geiranger – Oslo
Early morning departure by coach to Oslo. We travel via Lom, where we can admire the oldest wooden church in Norway, which dates from the 12th Century. We then continue via Otta, leaving the fjords area of central Norway. Late in the afternoon, we arrive in Oslo and check-in to our hotel. 2 nights at Hotel Continental or similar.

Day 10: Oslo
After breakfast, meet the local English-speaking guide at the hotel for a 3-hour city sightseeing tour. Oslo is beautifully situated by a fjord and from the Opera House the views are incredible. We then head to Bygdoy Island where you will visit the one of the best museums, the Viking Ship Museum (entrance included), with its three amazing Viking vessels. Then on to Vigeland Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures, to see the sculptures by Gustav Vigeland, and then past the Royal Palace and along the main street, Karl Johan. The tour ends at the hotel, from where you will be free to explore the Viking capital at your own pace. 2nd overnight in Oslo. 

Day 11: Oslo - Stockholm
Depart by coach for Stockholm, passing through the Norwegian and Swedish forests, and through the region of Varmland, the home of many legends. We arrive in Stockholm late in the afternoon for check-in.  2 nights at Hotel at Six or similar. 

Day 12: Stockholm City Sightseeing
Meet the local English-speaking guide at the hotel and start a 3 hour city sightseeing tour. The city of Stockholm, built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges, embraces both the unique character of the 13th century Old Town and modern high-tech architecture. Stockholm's islands are bordered by Lake Mälaren in the west and the Baltic Sea in the east, where the archipelago with its 30,000 islands sits, and the city is proudly called "the Beauty on the Water"  Our sightseeing tour includes a walk in the Old Town, and a visit inside to the City Hall, where the Nobel festivities take place. The tour ends at the hotel and the afternoon is at leisure. 2nd overnight in Stockholm.

Day 13: Stockholm – Tallinn By Overnight ferry
Morning at leisure then afternoon transfer to the pier by coach for departure on the overnight ferry, sailing along the Baltic Sea, bound for Tallinn. Enjoy a buffet dinner on board and overnight in an outside cabin.  

Day 14: Tallinn City Sightseeing and Walking Tour
Breakfast on board before arrival in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Transfer to your hotel followed by a sightseeing tour starting with a short drive by coach through the city centre and around the ancient city walls, then disembarking for the start of a walking tour. The walking tour includes Toompea Hill & Castle, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Dome Church and Viewer Square, then continues along Lühike Street to the Lower Town. Here we walk to the Old Town Hall Square, with views of the Old Town Hall, the Old Town Pharmacy house and the Church of Holy Ghost, then along Pühavaimu Street to the Latin quarter  where you will find open markets, studios and shops. Then it’s a short walk back to your hotel where the tour ends. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Overnight at Radisson Blu Sky Hotel or similar. 

Day 15: Tallinn – Helsinki By Ferry and City Sightseeing
 The morning is at leisure until the transfer from your hotel to the ferry terminal, where we take the ferry across the Baltic Sea to Helsinki. On arrival in Helsinki, start a 3-hour city sightseeing tour which includes Senate Square, the University and Lutheran Cathedral, all displaying the charming neo-classical architecture of the 1840’s. Continue on past the colourful Market Square in the South Harbour, Kaivopuisto Park, the diplomatic quarter, the imposing statue of Marshall Mannerheim, the Parliament Building, Finlandia Hall, the Orthodox Russian Church Uspenski and the Sibelius Monument. A visit is also made to Temppeliaukio Church – called the “Rock Church” as it is carved into solid rock. The tour ends at your hotel. Overnight at Hotel Kamp or similar.

Day 16: Helsinki - St Petersburg By Train 
The morning is at leisure. In the afternoon, transfer to Helsinki train Station, where we board the Allegro Train bound for St. Petersburg. A city founded in 1703 by Tzar Peter the Great and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and known as "the Venice of the North", St Petersburg was virtually unharmed by the 1930-50s Stalinist reconstruction, and its treasures dazzle - splendid palaces, stylish monuments, straight avenues, beautiful bridges and other attractions. St. Petersburg is filled with history and mystery! Upon arrival in St Petersburg, transfer to your hotel and evening at leisure. 2 nights at Hotel Angleterre or similar. 

Day 17 St Petersburg City Sightseeing
This morning  meet the local guide at the hotel for a 3-hour panoramic city sightseeing tour which will cover some of the many highlights of the city. We will drive along the Nevsky Prospect - the heart of the city, and make picture stops at the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, Senate Square, Peter and Paul Fortress and St. Isaacs Cathedral, Arts Square and the Russian Museum, as well as at the two magnificent churches, the "Spilled Blood" and the Nikolsky Cathedral. The tour ends at your hotel and the afternoon is at leisure. 2nd overnight in St Petersburg.

Day 18: St. Petersburg Hermitage Museum and Optional Peterhof Palace excursion
Meet the local guide at the hotel this morning for a tour of the astonishing Hermitage museum, which occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St. Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian Tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. This ensemble, formed in the 18th and 19th Centuries, is extended by the eastern wing of the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace and the recently constructed Repository. Put together throughout two centuries and a half, the Hermitage collections of works of art (over 3,000,000 items) present the development of the world culture and art from the Stone Age to the 20th Century. Today the Museum is creating its digital self-portrait to be displayed around the world. The tour ends at your hotel. Afternoon and evening at leisure and 3rd overnight in St Petersburg. .

This afternoon perhaps join an optional 4 hour excursion to Peterhof. The world-famous palace, fountain and park ensemble of Peterhof is an outstanding landmark of Russian artistic culture from the 18-19th Centuries. Founded by Emperor Peter the Great, not far from his new northern capital St Petersburg, Peterhof was intended as a splendid official royal summer residence.  The complex has wonderful parks, 176 fountains, 4 cascades, majestic palaces, numerous gilded statues of ancient gods and heroes, and remarkable collections of sculpture, painting and works of arts. 

Day 19: St Petersburg Departure
Your tour concludes today with a transfer to St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport. Or you can add a 4 day / 3 night guided extension to Moscow- see details below.

Moscow Extension: 4 days / 3 nights

Day 19  St Petersburg - Moscow
Transfer from your hotel to the Railway station, where we will board the Sapsan train bound for Moscow. This train ride takes you through endless Russian landscapes and along the Volga River. Afternoon arrival at Moscow and transfer to your hotel. 3 nights at Intercontinental Tverskaya Hotel or similar. 

Day 20: Moscow City SIghtseeing 
Today enjoy a full day guided sightseeing tour of Moscow. Moscow, with its 10 million inhabitants, is vast and at times chaotic but always extraordinary place. We will see ancient churches and cathedrals, some of them dating as far back as the 15th century, beautiful theatres and palaces, buildings of late Soviet architecture such as the Moscow State University and the Central Stadium in Luzhniki,  the historic centre of the city which includes the Red Square, Sofiiskaya Embankment, St. Sophia Cathedral, and the panorama of the Kremlin walls. We will also see the modern part of the city which includes  the Vorobievy (Lenin Hills) – the highest place in Moscow, providing a beautiful view of the city, and Poklonnaya Hill where there is a monument commemorating defenders of the city during World War Two. During this visit we will enjoy a tour of one of Moscow’s beautiful Metro stations, a highlight in itself. The evening is at leisure. 2nd overnight in Moscow.

Day 21 Moscow Kremlin Excursion
Meet the local guide at the hotel for a half day excursion, which includes a guided tour of the Kremlin.  We will walk through the Kremlin grounds and visit the Armoury Chamber with its famous collection of Faberge eggs, jewels and royal thrones. The word Kremlin (Kreml) means a fortress or walled town and Moscow’s is the biggest and most famous. The earliest ramparts were of earth and wood, but successive rulers raised and strengthened the defences after every attack.  We end the tour at the hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure. 3rd overnight in Moscow.

Day 22 Moscow Departure
Your tour concludes today with a transfer to Moscow Airport.
