You will also experience various well-known restaurants along the track serving traditional delicacies. In addition to an unforgettable journey through Sweden, the train stops along the way to enable you to discover the rich cultural offerings of inland Sweden.

Day 1  Mon 2 July  Stockholm - Mora

The Wilderness Train departs from Stockholm Central station in the morning for the first stretch taking us to Mora in the county of Dalecarlia. Besides enjoying the train ride, you will be served a delicious lunch in the restaurant carriage before visiting Verket/Avesta Art, where industrial history and contemporary art are in focus. In the early evening we arrive at Mora, the final destination of the day. A two-course dinner is served at the hotel and afterwards we recommend a stroll along beautiful lake Siljan.

Day 2  Tue 3 July   Mora – Fågelsjö - Östersund

In the morning the steam locomotive takes us north along Inlandsbanan. The first stretch includes a photo stop and a traditional Swedish “fika”. The steam locomotive will also get a topup of water. In Fågelsjö a visit at the world heritage manor house, Hälsingegården ”Bortom Åa”, is one of the highlights of the day, with a guided tour and summer lunch. After a second stop in Sveg, where you will have time to experience the town on your own, the train continues through the county of Härjedalen, wellknown for its wilderness and being the home of bears. Dinner is served on board with beautiful views surrounding us. In the evening the steam train travels the last bit along lake Storsjön, where the great lake monster lives, before finally reaching the town of Östersund in Jämtland.

Day 3  Wed 4 July   Östersund - Vilhelmina

After breakfast a guided tour at the famous outdoor museum Jamtli awaits together with lunch at Restaurant Hov, Östersund’s oldest restaurant. Afterwards, take a stroll at your own leisure at Jamtli, which also hosts the newly opened National Museum, this summer featuring art by Rembrandt, Alexander Roslin, Ulrica Fredrika Pasch, Rubens, Jenny Nyström and Carl Larsson. In the afternoon, the train continues North through the counties of Jämtland and Ångermanland into Swedish Lapland. A stop is made in the wilderness to experience coffee brewed over open fire. Dinner is served on board before we arrive in Vilhelmina.

Day 4  Thu 5 July   Vilhelmina - Arvidsjaur

Enjoy a bus excursion to the mountains and the culture reserve Fatmomakke, featuring the most prominent Sami church town in the country. After the excursion and lunch at Saxnäsgården with stunning views, the train takes us the last stretch between Storuman and Arvidsjaur. After a short stop in Sorsele, the station where Inlandsbanan’s north and south going trains meet, and before arriving at Arvidsjaur, dinner is served on board. Make sure to use the hotel’s excellent spa before going to bed.

Day 5  Fri 6 July   Arvidsjaur - Jokkmokk

Jokkmokk is Friday’s final destination and excursions along the track include the Navvy Museum in Moskosel and a photo stop at Piteälvs bridge, one of few remaining bridges where both trains and cars traffick the same lane. This is also the day we cross the Arctic Circle, where the train makes an appreciated stop. Jokkmokk is characterized both by Sami culture and artisan food. In the evening, experience this local food at a taste show, most likely different from anything you have ever tasted. Weather permitting, the midnight sun will shine all through the night.

Day 6  Sat 7 July   Jokkmokk - Gällivare

In the morning the train heads for Gällivare, the last stretch of the Wilderness train. Enjoy passing through the world heritage national park of Laponia, towards the most Northern destination along Inlandsbanan, Gällivare. Before arriving at our final destination, the train stops for a photo opportunity in Pakkjokk, and a tasty farewell lunch is served on board the train. The package tour ends in Gällivare and you may arrange the return journey by yourself or we can add a return train to Stockholm, please enquire.

If you wish to stay a few more days in the area, Gällivare offers many interesting sights and exciting activities, amongst others the mountain Dundret with farstretched views over the beautiful North, as well as the mining area at Malmberget. From the tourist office by the railway station, there are a variety of tours and the staff will give you plenty of tips of what to do in Gällivare.
