In September, the days start to get shorter, the air crisper, the food richer, and the colours more dazzling. Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy the fjords of Norway. This short Escorted tour takes you to Lofthus, Flam, Balestrand and Bergen.

Day 1: Arrival Bergen
Arrive in Bergen and make your own way to the hotel. Time at leisure. Bergen is known as the capital of the fjords and is situated on a peninsula surrounded by seven mountains. The city's history is closely connected with the sea and trade and the picturesque historic waterfront is delightful. Tonight at 19:00hrs meet your tour leader and fellow travellers in the hotel lobby and take the short walk to Bryggen to a local restaurant, to enjoy a delicious 3 course welcome dinner. Accommodation at the Bergen Børs Hotel, centrally located near Bryggen, the Fish market and shopping options.

Day 2: Bergen – Rosendal – Lofthus
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, take the short walk to the pier. At 08:50hrs depart by express boat towards the Hardanger Fjord, through some of western Norway’s most striking scenery. Reach the Hardanger Fjord, famous for its many fruit orchards. In September and October the trees are turning yellow and red, creating a splendid and dazzling sight. The landscape is draped in golden colours and along the fjords it is harvest time and game hunting season. Disembark in Rosendal at 10:45hrs and visit the Baroniet Rosendal Manor House & Gardens. Step back in time during a tour of the house, dating back to 1665, and enjoy a walk through the beautiful flowering renaissance garden and landscape park. In the afternoon a short drive to Ænes for a visit to Gygratun, a small farm retreat overlooking the Hardinger Fjord and surrounded by magnificent landscapes. Enjoy a guided tour of the farm and learn about traditional Norwegian farming. Then on past Folgefonna Glacier and Sandvevatnet Lake, for some beautiful views, to the thundering Låtefosse, a 165m twin waterfall.

Continue north, driving the scenic route along the Sørfjord, an arm of the Hardanger Fjord, to enjoy amazing views of colourful and ripe fruit trees ready to be harvested. Arrive in Lofthus late in the afternoon. Accommodation and dinner at Hotel Ullensvang, a unique family owned hotel dating back to 1846.

Day 3: Lofthus – Ulvik – Flåm – Auerland Fjord - Balestrand
After a buffet breakfast travel north past Kinsarvik and into Eidfjord, before stopping to view the thundering Vøringsfoss, a waterfall with a vertical drop of 180m. Cross the Hardanger Bridge, which is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, and drive to Ulvik to visit the Hardanger Juice and Cider Factory, a traditional apple orchard that produces apple juice, cider and liquor.Tour the farm and production facilities and taste the different products, before enjoying lunch in the restaurant with panoramic windows to the fjord below.

After lunch, continue through Voss and Gudvangen to reach Flåm, located at the most inner part of the Aurland Fjord. Here board the express boat to Balestrand, a 1½ hours peaceful cruise on the stunning Aurland Fjord and the Sogn Fjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. From the sun deck of the comfortable lounge, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of cascading waterfalls, sheer mountain cliffs, snow-clad peaks, and a variety of wildlife.
