A remarkable journey through the "Land of the fjords" starting and finishing in the viking capital of Oslo before heading into the fjords of Norway. Experience picturesque villages, magnificent waterfalls, breathtaking mountain peaks and glaciers, and highlights such as Geiranger fjord, which is included on UNESCO's world heritage list. A truly magical journey!

Day 1: Oslo Arrival
On arrival in Oslo, transfer* from the airport to your hotel and time at leisure. Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast at the head of Oslofjord and is known for its green spaces and wonderful museums, vibrant social scene and proximity to the fjords and mountains of the south and west. Perhaps visit the famous Viking Ship Museum, with its 3 Viking vessels, or Vigeland Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures, with sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. Or stroll the old wharf area of Bryygen with it's vibrant cafes and bars. Overnight at Clarion Hotel The Hub or similar.

Day 2: Oslo – Lofthus
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we depart Oslo and drive across Hønefoss and Nesbyen, in a landscape which alternates between forests of pines and lakes, to arrive in the beautiful Hallingdal Valley. Just a few kilometres away, we visit Gol then Geilo, a small town surrounded by mountains and famous for its fresh air and beautiful views. We then drive to the impressive Hardanger fjord, and on to Lofthus, one of Edvard Grieg's favourite haunts, and one of the most beautiful points of the fjord. Dinner at your hotel tonight and overnight at the Ullensvang Hotel or similar.

Day 3: Lofthus – Bergen
Today we leave Lofthus and travel back along the fjord to Brimnes where we cross Hardangerfjord on the wonderful Hardanger Bridge, one of the world's longest suspension bridges. We continue along the fjord, past  Nordheimsund and through forests of birches until we arrive in Bergen. Bergen is the capital of the fjords, Norway’s second largest city and one of 3 university cities. Early in the afternoon, meet your local guide at the hotel, for a 2-hour panoramic city sightseeing tour during which we will visit St. Marys Church and Haakon’s Hall, (entry fees not included), then the colourful and picturesque fish markets and the old Bryggen area. The evening is at leisure. Overnight at Radisson Blu Royal Hotel or similar.

Day 4: Bergen - Flam - Loen
Early morning departure from Bergen and travel to the stunning village of Flam. Here you can choose to take an optional  trip onboard the world famous Flam Railway, or an optional coach trip to the extraordinary and spectacular Stegastein Viewpoint 650 metres above Aurlandsfjord. Or simply stay in Flam to enjoy the charms of the fjordside village on your own. Details of the optional tours are below.

Optional Flam Railway Duration: approximately 2 hours. The Flam Railway also known as the Flamsbana is one of the steepest train lines in the world on normal tracks. The 2-hour return train journey runs through fantastic nature, past the Rallar Road, steep mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, 20 tunnels and offers a multitude of views. In the span of the trip  the train takes you from the ocean level at the Sognefjord in Flam, to the mountaintop at Myrdal mountain station on Hardangervidda, 863 metres above the ocean.

Optional Stegastein Viewpoint Excursion Duration: approximately 2 hours. The Stegastein Viewpoint is part of the Norwegian Scenic Route that runs from Aurland to Laerdal. The viewpoint structure juts out 30 metres from the mountainside, 650 metres above the fjord, and offers an unparalleled panorama. A more amazing view of the fjord, mountains and surrounding is hard to imagine.

From Flam we then take a short ferry trip along the beautiful Sognefjord – the longest and deepest fjord in the country. In the afternoon we will drive through the impressive mountains of Gaula, to get to Loen at the end of the day. Loen is a town beautifully situated between the mountains, lakes and fjords. Dinner and accommodation in the prestigious Hotel Alexandra or similar.

Day 5: Briksdal Glacier Optional Excursion then Leon - Geiranger
The morning is free to relax at the hotel. Or you might like to join an exciting optional excursion to Briksdal Glacier, an arm of Europe’s largest glacier Jostedalsbreen. Here, we travel in small motorised "Troll" cars to the very tip of the glacier and experience the breathtaking blue ice.

We then depart Loen to continue our journey through the wonderful Norwegian mountains to Hellesylt. Here we take a ferry across the dramatic and impressive UNESCO World Heritage listed Geiranger Fjord, situated amongst lush mountains and wild waterfalls. Then on to Geiranger. Here we enjoy a special tour of the Veteran car collection of the Mjelva family at the local museum- a number of these beautiful cars were used to show tourists around the Geiranger area in the 1920’s and 1930’s and they are still in excellent condition. Dinner and 2 nights at the Union Hotel or similar.

Day 6: Geiranger: Trollstigen
This morning we travel north to explore the Eagle's Road and Trollstigen or the Troll's path. The steepest section of Road 63 between Geiranger and Eidsdal is called Ørnevegen, or "The Eagle Road”, as driving along its eleven hairpin turns at 620 metres above sea level feels a little like being airborne. At the uppermost bend is the most spectacular viewpoint of the road, Ørnesvingen, offering breath-taking views over Geirangerfjord. Continue to Linge crossing the Storfjord from Eisdal and from here to the Troll’s path. Driving Trollstigen is a dramatic and exciting experience. In some places it is cut into the mountain, and some parts are built on top of stone walls. An impressive bridge of natural stone then carries the road across the Stigfossen waterfall. The remarkable road is a result of hard work and an impressive piece of engineering work nearly 100 years old. At top of Trollstigen there are viewpoints and steel walkways which allow you to get close to the dramatic mountains and waterfalls (The Trollstigen trip is weather dependent as road closures can occur). In the late afternoon, we arrive back at the hotel. 2nd night in Geiranger and dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: Geiranger - Oslo
Early morning departure by coach to Oslo. First we visit the famous point of Dalsnibba, an observation point located 1,476 metres above sea level, with a spectacular view of the famous Geiranger Fjord (the visit to Dalsnibba is subject to the weather). We continue on via Lom, to admire the oldest wooden Stave church in Norway, which dates from the 12th Century. We then travel via Otta, leaving the fjords area of central Norway. Late in the afternoon, we arrive in Oslo and check-in to our hotel; late this afternoon you can then join a 2 hour guided walking tour of Oslo. Overnight at Clarion Hotel the Hub or similar.
