Travel from Copenhagen through Denmark and into Sweden and back to Copenhagen, visiting the charming smaller towns of Roskilde, Odense, Ribe, Arhus, Alborg and Gothenburg, as well as exploring the picturesque North Jutland area of Skagen and Grenen.

Day 1 Copenhagen: Arrival
On arrival, make your own way to your hotel; time at leisure. Copenhagen, the capital city of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1417, is one of Europe's most ancient capitals. It also has a royal touch - the monarchy in Denmark is the oldest in the world. This is a place where old fairytales blend with innovative new architecture and world class design. It is also considered one of the world's most environmentally friendly cities and one of the best places to cycle. Most of the city's attractions can be reached on foot or bike, offering the opportunity to experience a lot of things in a short time. 2 nights in Copenhagen at Scandic Copenhagen Hotel or similar.

Day 2 Copenhagen: City Sightseeing
Breakfast in the hotel then meet the local guide after breakfast and enjoy a 3 hour sightseeing tour of the Danish capital. Admire the famed charms from the past and present, including the famous Little Mermaid and the rococo Royal Palace Amalienborg. Walk around Nyhavn, originally a busy commercial port, but nowadays a delightful harbourside area of cafes and bars. Don’t forget to look for Number 20, which was home to the famous Danish writer H.C. Andersen.

Then time to further explore on your own. Perhaps try a bike ride around the city, just like a real Copenhagener! The city is world famous for its biking culture and Copenhageners have used bicycles to transport themselves to work and for fun since the 1880s. You could also visit the Tivoli Gardens, the famous amusement park and pleasure garden which opened on 15 August 1843. Or see Copenhagen from a different perspective, and join a canal tour. Dinner at a local restaurant tonight.

Day 3 Copenhagen - Roskilde - Odense
Breakfast in the hotel, then departure for Roskilde. Upon arrival there enjoy a short walk in the city with your tour leader. Visit the Viking Ship Museum, to see the Viking maritime craftsmanship and ships, including the 1,000 year old original Viking ships which witnessed war, trade and sea voyages. Then visit the UNESCO World Heritage famous Roskilde Cathedral, with entrance included, dating from the 12th Century and Scandinavia's first Gothic brick cathedral, with porches and side chapels added up until the end of the 19th century. The cathedral has also been the mausoleum of the Danish royal family since the 15th century.

Then continue to on Odense, across the Great Belt Bridge, the amazing 18 km long bridge that links the eastern and western parts of Denmark. Overnight in Odense at the First Grand Odense Hotel or similar and dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 Odense - Kolding - Ribe
Breakfast at the hotel, then meet the local guide for a 2 hour sightseeing tour of the third largest city of Denmark. Odense is well known as the birth place of one of the world’s most famous writers, Hans Christian Andersen, whose fairy tales have been translated into 125 languages. Visit the H.C Andersen museum that has a truly exceptional exhibition, and a unique presentation of author’s life, words, images and famous private possessions.

Then on to Kolding with a stop in the town centre to admire the Royal Castle Koldinghus, and finally to Ribe. Here you might like to join the Night Watchman of Ribe at 8 pm, on his daily round walk, starting from the market place. Overnight in Ribe at the Dagmar Hotel or similar and dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 Ribe - Århus
Breakfast in the hotel then meet the local guide for a 2 hour sightseeing tour of Ribe, Denmark's oldest city. The history of Ribe is long, dramatic and full of adventure. Discover the history of the Vikings and take a journey 1,300 years back in time with a visit to the reconstructed Longhouse where you can experience Viking life as it was, watching the people go about their daily lives - blacksmiths, minters, slaves, warriors, falconers, carpenters, silversmiths, merchants, farmers and more. A truly fascinating visit.

Then on to Arhus, where we will visit the Moesgård Museum with its exhibitions exploring the evolution of man and of life through the Bronze Age, the Iron and the Viking period, and with stories and objects from Denmark and the region, including Grauballe, the mummified body of a man extraordinarily well preserved in peat. Overnight in the Scandic Århus City Hotel or similar.

Day 6 Århus – Skagen - Ålborg
Breakfast in the hotel then explore the city with the local guide, visiting the pedestrian streets, the Cathedral, the charming Latin Quarter and the lively Vadestrædet, full of cafes and bars along the river, as well as “Den Gamle By” Museum (The Old Town), a unique attraction showcasing a reconstruction of urban life from the 18th century to the 1970s.

In the afternoon we travel to North Jutland, to explore Skagen and Grenen, in the far north. First we stop in Skagen, the northernmost city in Denmark, well known for its beautiful natural environment, and for the bohemian group of Scandinavian artists that flourish here.  Our next stop, Grenen, is Denmark’s northernmost point, where you can witness the unique natural phenomenon of the meeting of 2 seas, the Skagerrak and the Kattegat, where the collision of the waves is clearly visible to the naked eye. This fascinating area has a spit formed over the years by deposited sand and gravel carried along by the strong currents, creating large beach expanses and lagoons, attracting many wading birds. Drive on to "Sandormen" to the tip of Grenen, to see the coastline and the diversity of nature. Then on to Ålborg. Overnight at the First Ålborg Hotel or similar and dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 Ålborg - Gothenburg, Sweden
Breakfast in the hotel. Today we leave Denmark and travel into Sweden. We cross by ferry from Frederikshavn in Denmark to Gothenburg in Sweden, across the narrow Kattegat sea, past the Danish Straits islands of Denmark to the south and Swedish provinces to the east.  We arrive in Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden and check in. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Gothenburg sits by the Göta älv River and is an historic seaport known for its Dutch-style canals and leafy boulevardes, lined with many cafes and shops. Take a walk through the city along the famous Avenyn Avenue, Gothenburg's main street and admire the architecture, with its delightful old trams. 2 nights at the First Hotel G or similar and dinner tonight at the hotel.

Day 8 Gothenburg Sightseeing & Seal Safari
Breakfast in the hotel, then explore this coastal city on a 2 hr guided sightseeing tour. This afternoon enjoy a Seal Safari -  Gothenburg is encircled by rocky shoreline, deep forests, tranquil lakes and a surging sea to the west, with many small islands. Seals are commonly seen around the archipelago all year round, basking on the rocks in the sun, or playing in the water with a friend or two.

Day 9 Gothenburg – Copenhagen & North Zealand Castle Tour
Breakfast in the hotel then we cross from Helsingborg back to Denmark. Our first stop is Hillerød, where we visit the majestic Frederiksborg Castle, built for Christian IV on three islets, considered a masterpiece of the Danish Renaissance and the largest palace in Scandinavia.  Then on to Fredensborg, the summer residence of the Danish Queen for a short stop to admire the castle facade. Lastly we stop at Helsingør where we explore the old town and Kronborg Castle. Located on the immensely important stretch of water between Denmark and Sweden, Kronborg Castle or Elsinore played a leading role in the history of northern Europe. The outstanding Renaissance castle was constructed from 1574 and has remained intact to this day, and is famed as the setting of Hamlet, the most famous of Shakespeare's tragedies. Then on to Copenhagen in the late afternoon and overnight at the Scandic Copenhagen Hotel or similar.
