Travel by train through the south of Sweden, from Stockholm to Gothenburg and on to Malmo, with a side trip to Ystad. The tour finishes in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Day 1 Stockholm Arrival
On arrival in Stockholm, make your own way to your hotel. Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands, and connected by 57 bridges. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions, most of which can be reached on foot. Overnight in Stockholm.

Day 2 Stockholm - Gothenburg
Today make your own way to the railway station, for the train to Gothenburg, which takes approximately 3 hours and passes through the pleasant countryside of southern Sweden. On arrival in Gothenburg, make your own way to your hotel. Gothenburg offers a variety of great attractions including beautiful flourishing gardens, many historic sites and buildings, lovely old churches and magnificent museums, where you can see works by world famous artists. The nearby archipelago of Gothenburg stretches along the coast from the city, so you don't have to travel far to find charming villages, stunning nature and beaches. Overnight in Gothenburg.

Day 3 Gothenburg - Malmö
This morning make your own way to the railway station, for the 3 hour train ride along the west coast to Malmö, a charming city which in recent years has developed into an exciting place, with a strong focus on cultural offerings and innovative architecture. In 2006, Malmö was certified as Sweden’s first Fairtrade City and this has encouraged organic and fair trade offerings, so you can shop with a clear conscience and enjoy ethically produced food and drink. Perhaps pay a visit to Malmöhus Castle with it's unique collection, or take time to just enjoy the atmosphere of this historic city. 2 nights in Malmö.

Day 4 Malmö - Ystad - Malmö
Today enjoy a full day trip to Ystad, a 50 minute train ride away. Only a few cities in Scandinavia and Europe boast such a complete and ‘living’ picture of bygone days as Ystad. Many of the 300 half-timbered houses and other buildings are filled with restaurants and shops and the picturesque corners are alive with surprises and bargains. Best-selling author Henning Mankell has put the city of Ystad, also called “Wallander’s Ystad”, on the world map with his detective stories about Police Superintendent Kurt Wallander, a bachelor who grapples with murder investigations and difficult criminal cases in Ystad and its surroundings. The popular books have been adapted for the screen, and you can now go on a guided tour in an old veteran fire engine (not included) around Ystad and listen to stories about the films and the books. In the afternoon, take the train back to Malmö.

Day 5 Malmö - Copenhagen
Morning direct train to Copenhagen, a 45 minute journey. The capital city of Denmark since 1417, Copenhagen is one of Europe's most historic capitals with a royal touch - the monarchy is the oldest in the world. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance in the city centre. Visit Tivoli Gardens in summer, the Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also enjoy the pedestrian shopping street of Strøget and it's surroundings. Copenhagen is a place where old fairytales blend with innovative new architecture and world class design; it is also one of the world's most environmentally friendly cities and one of the best cycling destinations. Overnight in Copenhagen.
