This independent tour takes you to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo, as well as to the smaller towns of Odense, Aarhus and Gothenburg, by train and ferry. If you want to stay longer in any destination, extra nights can be added.

Day 1 Stockholm Arrival
Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges - historic buildings, green parks, fresh air and a maritime feeling are distinctive traits of the city. With 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world class museums and attractions. Visit the Vasa Museum - the impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but was salvaged 333 years later in 1961; she has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging. Also walk the charming streets of the famous old town, Gamla Stan, and enjoy sitting in the many bars, cafes and restaurants, to watch the passing parade. Or indulge in some Nordic shopping in the many boutiques and designer shops. Overnight in Stockholm.

Day 2 Stockholm - Copenhagen
Today take the train from Stockholm to Copenhagen (5-6 hrs). The capital city of Denmark since 1417, Copenhagen is one of Europe's most historic capitals with a royal touch - the monarchy is the oldest in the world. The capital is full of attractions, most of them located within walking distance in the city centre. Visit  the Tivoli Gardens in summer, the Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace (Danish Parliament), the Gefion Fountain, the old harbour ‘Nyhavn’, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, the museum of Carlsberg or one of the many other museums of art, culture, history and design. Also enjoy the pedestrian shopping street of Strøget and it's surroundings. Copenhagen is a place where old fairytales blend with innovative new architecture and world class design; it is also one of the world's most environmentally friendly cities and one of the best cycling destinations. Overnight in Copenhagen.

Day 3 Copenhagen - Odense
This morning take the train from Copenhagen to Odense (1.5-2.5 hrs). Enjoy the view as you travel westwards through farming countryside and small villages, some of which were founded by Vikings more than 1000 years ago.  Odense is Denmark’s third largest city and Hans Christian Andersen’s home town - visit  the humble house where the world famous fairy tale writer was born in 1805, which has been turned into a museum dedicated to his life and work. Overnight in Odense.

Day 4 Odense - Aarhus
Continue today by train from Odense to Aarhus (1.5 hrs). Åarhus, the second largest city of Denmark is known as the City of the Smile. Spend the day exploring the beautiful city - visit the Old City (Den Gamle By), the cathedral, the museum of Danish prehistory Moesgaard or the Marselisborg Castle, the holiday residence of the Royal Family. Perhaps stop at the new Street Food Hall for some Nordic refreshments. Overnight in Aarhus.

Day 5 Aarhus - Frederikshavn - Gothenburg
From Aarhus continue by train to Frederikshavn (2.5-3 hrs), and then make your own way to the ferry terminal to board the ferry bound for Gothenburg (2.5 hrs). Gothenburg, Sweden's 2nd largest city, offers a variety of attractions - perhaps take a boat cruise to the 17th century New Älvsborg Fortress, visit the floating maritime experience centre Maritiman with an armada of 19 vessels and an opportunity to see and learn about U-boats, destroyers, mine-layers and fireboats, or have fun at the Liseberg amusement park. Overnight in Gothenburg.

Day 6 Gothenburg - Oslo
Your journey contines today with the train from Gothenburg to Oslo (4-7 hrs). Oslo is the Viking city, a city of rolling green hills and spectacular fjords, beautifully situated at the northernmost point of the 100 km long Oslo Fiord. Enjoy the many attractions such as the stunning Opera House, Vigeland Park, the Royal Castle, the City Hall, the Parliament Building, the Bygdøy Peninsula with its inspiring museums, the Akerhus Fortress, and the old wharf area of Aker Brygge. Overnight in Oslo.
