StepMapHelsinki Mini Stay

Day 1 Helsinki: Arrival and Time at Leisure
Upon arrival, make your own way to your hotel, and time at leisure. Helsinki is truly located at the crossroads of Western and Eastern culture and this is reflected everywhere in this green and lively small city. Helsinki was founded in 1550 by the Swedish King Gustav Vasa, as a trading post to compete with Tallinn, to the south. In the beginning of the 19th century Finland became part of Russia, and Tsar Alexander I made Helsinki the capital in 1812.

Explore the city's many attractions. Perhaps visit the Senate Square, Uspenskij Cathedral, Finlandia Hall, Parliament House, the New Opera House, Sibelius Park & Monument, Church in the Rock and the harbourside markets and seafood stalls. Or take a trip to the charming Suomenlinna Fortress, since 1991 on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and a unique monument to European military architecture. 2 nights in Helsinki at the Original Sokos Vaakuna Hotel, or similar.

Day 2: Helsinki Panoramic City Tour
This morning join a 1.45hr express panoramic city tour by bus, with an onboard English audio guide. The tour starts at the Esplanade Park at 11:00 hrs and takes you past the most interesting parts of Helsinki, such as the historical centre, City Hall, The Parliament buildings, Finlandia Hall and the Opera House (please note entrances and transfers from/to the hotel are not included). The afternoon is free for you to explore further. 2nd overnight in Helsinki.

Day 3: Helsinki - Turku - Naantali
Today make your own way to the central Helsinki train station, to take the 11:37hrs direct train to Turku (approximately 2 hours). On arrival at Turku transfer by pre-booked taxi to your accommodation in Naantali, about 16 km away. 2 nights with dinner at the Naantali Spa & Hotel. Time at leisure.

Day 4: Turku Privately Guided Sightseeing
Today enjoy a 4-hour privately guided tour of Turku, by car and with some walking. From the hotel in Naantali head to Turku, known as Finland’s food capital. At the Turku Market Hall explore the local cuisine and snack on some tasty delicacies. Then drive on to Turku Cathedral  for a photo stop, followed by a visit to Turku Castle (entrance to the castle is included). The castle is both one of the oldest buildings still in use and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century and stands on the banks of the Aura River, and has many historical features such as the renaissance banquet halls and round tower prisoner cells, as well as fascinating scale models of the castle detailing it's historical development through to the present day. The tour ends with your return to the hotel. (Please note that the Turku Market hall is closed on Sundays, and Turku Castle is closed on Mondays during wintertime). 2nd overnight with dinner at the Naantali Spa & Hotel.

Day 5: Naantali - Turku - Overnight ferry to Stockholm
Day at leisure. Explore Naantali - little boutiques and idyllic cafés line the narrow streets of the Old Town, and the seaside promenade of the harbour is dotted with sunny terraces and cosy restaurants, galleries and museums. Or take time out from your travels to relax at the hotel which offers spa and wellness treatments. In the evening, private transfer by pre-booked taxi from the hotel to the Turku Viking Line terminal to board the overnight ferry to Stockholm, departing at 20:55hrs. Overnight with dinner on the ferry in an outside 2 berth cabin with private facilities.

Day 6: Stockholm Arrival
Arrival into Stockholm at 06:30 in the morning, and disembark after breakfast. Make your own way to your hotel - check in is not available until 15:00hrs but you can leave your luggage there.

Time to explore - Stockholm (the "Beauty on the Water") is undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful capitals; built on 14 islands and protected from the sea by Skargarden archipelago.  Perhaps explore Gamla Stan’s narrow cobbled streets, take a canal cruise, see the Royal Palace, Parliament Buildings and much more. 2 nights in Stockholm at the Clarion Hotel Amaranten (or similar).

Day 7: Stockholm City Sightseeing
This morning join a 75min express panoramic city tour by bus. The tour takes you past the most interesting parts of the city and famous sights such as Stockholm City Hall, the Royal Palace, Östermalm, Gamla Stan, Långholmen and the Royal Djurgården (please transfers from/to the hotel are not included). 2nd overnight in Stockholm.

Day 8: Stockholm - Helsinki Overnight Ferry
Day at leisure to further explore. Perhaps visit the Vasa Museum, which houses one of the world’s oldest and best-preserved warships dating back to 1628, or Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, with its collection of old buildings collected from all over Sweden. In the afternoon, make your own way to the Stockholm Viking Line ferry terminal for the overnight ferry to Helsinki, departing at 16:30hrs. Overnight with dinner on the ferry in an outside 2 berth cabin with private facilities.
