Explore the whole of mighty Iceland, traveling along the Ring Road, plus visit the mysterious Eastern Fjords, Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Melrakkasletta, the Northernmost point of Iceland. Additional nights can be added in Reykjavik at the end of the tour.

Day 1 Keflavik Airport – Hveragerði  100km
Geothermal Lagoon – Flower village – Geothermal Greenhouses 

Pick up the car at the airport and start your Iceland experience. From Keflavík International Airport drive the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula towards your first overnight stay in charming Hveragerði village. This is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area and because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs, it is often called the flower village. Overnight in Hveragerdi.

Day 2 Thingvellir – Gullfoss – Skálholt – Thjórsárdalur – Hella  295km
National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO) – Exploding Geysers – Massive Waterfall – Hekla Volcano

Today's highlights include Thingvellir National Park a place of great geological and historical interest, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot-spring area. Drive along the mighty Thjórsá river to Thjórsárdalur Valley with Mt. Hekla, Iceland's most famous volcano towering above. Continue to the South Shore area. Overnight in South Iceland.  

Day 3 Hella – Vík – Kirkjubæjarklaustur  255km
Thundering Waterfalls – Puffin Colony – Black Sand Beaches – Lava Fields
 
Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Continue to Dyrhólaey* a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in the summer, and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. Travel across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to picturesque Kirkjubæjarklaustur village, the former site of a 12th century Catholic convent. *Please note that Dyrhólaey is closed during nesting season from mid-May until late June. Overnight in Southeast Iceland.

Day 4 Vatnajokull National Park- Jokulsarlon - Hofn - Djupivogur  315km
Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs - Europe's Largest Glacier - Eastern Fjords
Today you will be in the area of Vatnajökull National Park and Skaftafell area, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajökull glacier offering various hiking possibilities. Continue to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon where huge icebergs, float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon. Nearby is Diamond Beach. Pass through Hofn, a town located within view of the glacier. Head onwards, enjoying the views of steep mountains and seacoast. Your next destination is Djupivogur, a charming and historical town that is the “gateway” to the rugged East Iceland coastline. Check out the quirky egg sculptures in the town’s harbour. Overnight in the Djupivogur or Eastfjords area.

Day 5 The Eastfjords – Egilsstadir – Arctic Coast Way  364km
Narrow Fjords - Steep Mountains - Arctic Coast

Drive through the spectacular East Fjords with towering mountains and charming fishing villages such as Breiddalsvik and Stodvarfjordur. Drive through Fagridalur to Egilsstadir, one of Iceland’s youngest towns. Perhaps visit the Vok Baths at nearby Lake Urridavatn, where you can unwind in untouched nature in distinctive floating geothermal pools. Enter the new Arctic Coast Way. Pass by Vopnafjordur village, with its spectacular coastline and natural hot springs. Continue on to Langanes Peninsula, an outdoor paradise for birders, hikers and nature photographers. A nice place to take a break is Thorshofn, a pleasant fishing town that is a perfect spot to connect with the area’s culture. Drive to your overnight destination in Raufarhofn.

Day 6 Arctic Coast Way: Raufarhofn – Kopasker – Vatnajökull National Park - Husavik  215km
Iceland’s Northernmost Point – The Arctic Henge – Driftwood Beaches – Beautiful Canyon
Raufarhofn village is Iceland’s northernmost town and home to the picturesque Arctic Henge, an enormous sun calendar based on Norse mythology. If you enjoy walking, there are several walking trails to the beach and the Raufarhofn lighthouse. Pass through the fishing village of Kopaskur, with its uniquely shaped lighthouse. Visit Ásbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon in the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park. Depending on your schedule, you may also visit Dettifoss, the largest waterfall in Europe. Drive along Tjornes peninsula at the edge of the Arctic Circle en route to the charming fishing port of Husavik. A great way to end the day is with a relaxing swim in the warm sea waters of Husavik’s GeoSea Baths. Overnight in Husavik area.

Day 7 Arctic Coast Way: Husavik – Akureyri - Siglufjordur  250km 
Volcanic wonderland – Waterfall of the Gods – Northern “Capital” – Dramatic mountains and coastline
Husavik is the whale watching capital of Iceland, a morning tour is an excellent idea. Explore the highlights of Lake Myvatn and surrounding area with unique attractions such as Dimmiborgir, the pseudo craters at Skutusstadir, the colourful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcanic area. Depart Myvatn for Godafoss, waterfall of the gods. Take some time to visit Akureyri. Drive to Siglufjordur along one of Iceland's most beautiful coastlines enjoying a unique view towards the North Atlantic, the town itself has many beautifully restored and colourful buildings. Overnight in the Siglufjordur area.

Day 8 Arctic Coast Way: Siglufjordur to Laugarbakki  325km
Historical Peninsula – Viking Sagas and Battles – Horses and Heritage
Explore the fascinating area of Skagafjordur fjord, renowned for horse breeding and medieval history, before driving on to the Hrutafjordur area. A recommended stop along the way is Vatnsdalsholar, a cluster of hills found in Vatnsdalur Valley. Today you may like to visit Borjgarvirki a natural fortress used during the viking age. Other interesting places include Glaumbaer turf manor house and also Holar Cultural Centre both of which reflect centuries of Icelandic history. Near Varmahlid town, you might visit Lytingsstadur Icelandic horse farm. Overnight in the Laugarbakki area.

Day 9 Arctic Coast Way: Hvammstangi – Vatnes Peninsula - Stykkisholmur  249km
Seal Colonies – Sea Rock Formations – Viking Citadel – Erik and Leif Eirkiksson’s home

The route today is one of the best in Iceland for seal watching. You’ll also see some of the places associated with the tragic 19th century events described in the novel Burial Rites. A great area to view seals is Vatnsnes Peninsula, where the ocean seems to meet the sky. Today you’ll also have a view of the Hvitserkur arch- shaped ocean rock formation, a landmark symbol of the area. Visit Borgarvirki, a natural rock formation that has been used as a citadel since Viking times. Head from the Arctic Coast Way and into Western Iceland. Visit Dalir, the region of Eric the Red and birthplace of his son, the great explorer Leif Eiriksson at a living replica museum before driving to Snaefellsnes peninsula. Overnight stay in Stykkisholmur, an eco-friendly town with beautiful wooden buildings originally brought over from Norway in the 1800s. 

Day 10 Snæfellsnes – Borgarnes – Reykjavík  360km
Quaint Fishing Villages - Picturesque Waterfalls - Europe's Most Powerful Hot Spring - Scenic Fjord

Continue around the Snaefellsnes peninsula passing the small fishing villages Hellissandur and Grundarfjordur. Make a stop at the magnificent columnar basalt rock formations at Arnarstapi as well as the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur. Explore Borgarfjordur area and visit the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt and the hot spring Deildartunguhver. Continue via Hvalfjordur fjord to Reykjavik.  Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 11 Reykjavik - Keflavik Airport 
Your tour concludes with car drop-off at Keflavik International Airport.
