Day 1 Keflavik Airport - Hveragerdi 100km

Geothermal Lagoon – Flower village – Geothermal Greenhouses
Pick up the car at the airport and start your Iceland experience. From Keflavik International Airport drive the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula towards your first overnight stay in the charming village of Hveragerdi, 45km south east of Reykjavik.The village is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area and because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs it is often called the flower village. Overnight in Hveragerdi. 

Day 2 Thingvellir - Geysir - Gullfoss 205km

National Park with Geological Wonders - Exploding Geysers - Massive Waterfalls
Today enjoy both the Golden Circle and the South Shore. Visit Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a place of great geological and historical interest. Then take in the spectacular Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geysir hot-spring area. Perhaps stop at Fridheimar Geothermal farm and Efstidalur dairy farm. Second overnight in Hveragerdi area

Day 3 Thjorsardalur Valley – Skogar – Dyrholaey – Vik 295km

Volcanic Valley – Waterfall Duo – Black Sand Beaches of the South Shore
Explore enchanting Þjórsárdalur valley and its ever-changing landscapes of birch woods, sandy lava fields, rivers, and waterfalls. If the skies are clear, you’ll also see the impressive and beautiful Mt. Hekla volcano towering over the region. Visit Stong, where you can view a replica of a Viking-age longhouse that was buried by a volcanic eruption of Hekla. Drive along the scenic farmlands of Iceland’s South Shore. Stop to admire the scenic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Continue to Dyrhólaey* and the thundering waves of the Reynisfjara black sand beaches. (*Dyrhólaey is closed for the bird nesting season between mid-May and 25 June). Overnight in the Vík area, Iceland’s southernmost town.

Day 4 Vatnajokull National Park - Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon - Hofn 285km

Lava Fields – Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs – Europe's Largest Glacier
Journey east to Skaftafell, a beautiful glacial area within huge Vatnajökull National Park, to stunning Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, the birth place of icebergs. Throughout the day you will enjoy magnificent views of mighty Vatnajökull Glacier, which dominates south eastern Iceland. Nearby is Diamond Beach, named for the shrinking icebergs that settle on the black sands before drifting out to sea. Overnight in the Höfn area.

Day 5 Hofn - East Fjords - Egilsstadir 260km

Narrow Fjords – Steep Mountains – Picturesque Coastline – Microbrewery
Drive from Höfn through Almannaskarð pass with a stop to admire Iceland's majestic coastline. Continue alongside towering mountains which plunge vertically into the sea and form the magnificent East Fjords. Also pass through coastal fjord villages en route to Egilsstaðir area. Visit the Beljandi Microbrewery and sample some of the beer. Overnight in the Eastfjords area.

Day 6 Lake Myvatn Area 300km

Highland Desert – Bizarre Lava Formations – Geothermal & Volcanic Wonderland
Explore the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau Modrudalsoraefi as you head towards the Lake Myvatn area. On the way, stop at Dettifoss, Europe's largest and most powerful waterfall. Continue onwards to Namaskard Pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. Walk along the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and peek into Grjotagja, a cave with underground hot springs. Explore the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Overnight in the Myvatn area. 

Day 7 Lake Myvatn Area - Akureyri 85km

"Waterfall of the Gods" – Colourful Northern “Capital” 
Start the day by exploring magnificent sites in the Lake Myvatn area. Next, head to Godafoss Waterfall, where you can walk on paths giving you different views of the water. Afterwards, on to Akureyri, the colourful northern "capital" of Iceland. The town has charming buildings and a beautiful view of the Eyjafjordur Fjord. The rest of the day is open for you to explore of Akureyri. If you’re interested in culture, check out the trendy Listagil area, the “Art Canyon.” You can stroll the street here, browsing art galleries and stopping in at one of the friendly cafes or pubs for delicious, locally sourced food. Several museums are worth a visit. The botanical garden is open year-round; many visitors find it interesting that a garden so close to the Arctic Circle has such a large variety of plants. Overnight in the Akureyri area. 

Day 8 Akureyri - Skagafjordur - Borgarnes 415km

Viking History– Europe’s Largest Hot Spring – Picturesque Waterfalls
Drive through scenic valleys framed by dramatic mountains as you head into the Skagafjordur region. Icelanders consider the Skagafjordur area to be one of the country’s finest places for horse breeding. Cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau taking you into West Iceland. Drive through Borgarfjordur, a region that has been getting international recognition for its lovely volcanic and wooded scenery and for its Viking history. Walk up to the top of Grabrok crater for an amazing view. Listen to the powerful rushing waters of Deildartunguhver, Europe’s mightiest hot spring area. Stop to admire the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Overnight in the Borgarfjordur area.

Day 9 Borgarfjordur - Snaefellsjokull National Park– Reykjavik 405km

Snaefellsjokull Glacier – Pebble Beaches – Sea Cliffs with Birdlife – Quaint Fishing Villages
Explore the amazing variety of natural landscapes in Snaefellsjokull National Park. Also see Kirkjufell, one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. Walk along the uniquely pebbled seascape of Djupalonssandur beach. At the picturesque harbor village of Arnarstapi, you can observe magnificent basalt rocks in stacked formations. After your visit here, head on to Reykjavik, Iceland's culturally vibrant capital city. Enjoy exploring the city's many dining options. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 10 Reykjavik - Keflavik Airport 52km

Your tour concludes with car drop-off at Keflavik International Airport.

The first night of your tour is spent in the Hveragerdi area, a small town about 45km from Reykjavik, to enable you to then head off into the countryside the next day without having to go through Reykjavik.

Additional nights can be added in Reykjavik at the end of the tour.

The names for individual accommodations are not available prior to booking, as the tour package is based on specific hotel/price categories and not on specific hotels/accommodations. The exact location of the countryside hotels will vary according to availability- the itinerary indicates the region for each overnight stay (with the exception of the last night which is always in Reykjavik itself).

The price is based on 9 x 24-hour rental days starting at the time of car pick up and finishing at the same time. Additional use of the car beyond this time frame will incur additional days rental fee.
