Day 1 Reykjavik Arrival
On arrival at Keflavik Airport transfer by coach to your hotel. Time at leisure. Reykjavik has many wonderful museums including the National Museum displaying artefacts from the first settlement to the modern age, giving an excellent overview of Iceland’s history and culture, the Reykjavik 871+2 Settlement Museum, an archeological museum based around a 10th-century Viking longhouse unearthed in 2001, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Gallery.

Evening information session at the hotel, where you’ll meet your guide and fellow participants and go over the itinerary for the next few days. 4 nights in Reykjavik at the Centerhotel Midgardur or similar.

Day 2 Reykjavik: Christmas Walking Tour & Blue Lagoon
Transfer to the Old Town area of Reykjavik where you’ll meet your guide. Enjoy a guided Christmas-themed walking and tasting tour of downtown Reykjavik. During this Reykjavik Christmas experience, you’ll gain insight into Icelandic holiday traditions old and new, as well the history, art, architecture, culture and cuisine of the capital city. Wander through the beautifully-decorated city centre, twinkling with festive holiday lights. The tour ends in Reykjavik around noon, where you’ll have free time to enjoy the city’s ambience as you please. Why not try ice skating on Ingolfstorg square to holiday tunes or watch the kids while sipping a mug of hot cocoa or mulled wine? Make your own way back to the hotel.

Afternoon visit to the Blue Lagoon, the world-famous geothermal lake surrounded by lava fields. At this time of the day, it is especially beautiful with the dark skies and the festive lighting that makes the Blue Lagoon so luminous.

*Note: for the Christmas Departure on 23 December, you will take the walking tour today as above, but the Blue Lagoon visit will be on day 4 (26 December).

Day 3 Golden Circle Tour: Gullfoss, Geysir, Thingvellir National Park
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will meet you for your guided tour. Today you will experience the trio of natural wonders along the Golden Circle route in South Iceland, a true Winter wonderland. Highlights include the breath taking Gullfoss waterfall, which is often frozen mid-cascade during winter; the active Geysir geothermal area of hot springs spouting geysers and bubbling mud pots; and Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Iceland’s greatest historical site. Thingvellir is an important geological site;  this is where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet and you can walk in a canyon that divides the two continents.

*Note: for the Christmas Departure on 23 December, you will do the Golden Circle Tour with the Blue Lagoon visit on Day 4 of your trip (26 December).

Day 4: South Shore Adventure & Glacier Snowmobiling
Today you’ll travel along the South Shore, a gorgeous region to experience in the light and shadows of Winter. Visit two waterfalls iconic to this region. Seljalandsfoss is a ribbon-like plume dropping off a cliff, you can walk behind the falls if trails conditions allow for it. Skogafoss is one of Iceland’s most photographed falls and is said to hide buried treasure from the Middle Ages. If the skies are clear, you´ll be able to see two famous volcanoes: beautiful Mount Hekla and the glacier-crowned Eyjafjallajokull. You might even glimpse the Westman Islands off Iceland’s coast.

Near the village of Vik is the black sand beach of Reynisfjara with its basalt formations and powerfully thundering Atlantic waves. Near Vik is also the Myrdalsjokull glacier, where you’ll take an amazing snowmobile trip in a world of ice. It’s a true adrenaline-pumping experience to fly across the glacier on a snowmobile with views far across the horizon. Return to Reykjavik in the late afternoon where the evening is yours to enjoy the Christmas feeling of the city.

*Note: for the Christmas Departure on 23 Dec, you will do the South Shore Adventure & Glacial Snowmobiling on Day 3 (25 Dec). Guided coach tour from Day 3-Day 4 only.
