This small group escorted trip in Northern Norway gives you plenty of opportunity to search for the magic of the Northern Lights. Alta and Tromso are among the most popular desitnations for hunting the Northern Lights and give you the best chances of witnessing this natural wonder.

Start in Alta then travel on to Tromso, the starting point of many early North Pole expeditions and the ideal place for deep winter snow, so you can try some exciting winter optional activities including snowmobiling, dog sledding or a reindeer safari. 2 guided evening excursions looking for the Northern Lights are also included. And whilst in Alta you can choose to spend an optional night at the fabulous Sorrisniva Igloo hotel - a very unique experience!

Day 1 Arrival in Alta: Evening Northern Lights Safari
On arrival in Alta, make your own way to your hotel. Time at leisure - perhaps visit Alta's fantastic new Northern Lights Cathedral, with its amazing architecture inspired by the Aurora Borealis. The swirling waves of the Northern Lights were the inspiration for the spiral design of the titanium clad building.

In the evening, meet your fellow travellers, before your first Northern Lights Safari. Travel out beyond the edges of the town to places where there is no light pollution, so you have the best chance possible to see and photograph this astonishing natural phenomena, (provided of course Mother Nature does her bit!). 2 nights in Alta.

Day 2 Alta: Alta Museum and Optional Overnight in Snow Igloo
This morning is free for you to continue exploring Alta. In the afternoon visit the Alta Museum to see the fascinating expositions about the local history of the northern lights and local industry and culture. 2nd overnight in Alta.

Tonight you can add an optional overnight stay  at the amazing Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, which is constructed and decorated each winter entirely with local snow and ice! The Hotel is located at Sorrisniva, about 20 km from Alta, in idyllic surroundings on the banks of the Alta River. The first Igloo Hotel was built in 2000 and every year the theme and construction changes.  Everything is made of snow and ice, the rooms, the beds, even the glasses in the bar. The surfaces are decorated with ice sculptures and freizes, beautiful artwork created by talented local artists. Along with the pure white snow it creates a fairytale atmosphere inside. The hotel has approximately 30 rooms, suites, ice gallery, and an ice-chapel. The temperatures inside the snow igloos remains constant between minus 4 and minus 7. Thanks to natural reindeer-hides, mattresses and sleeping-bags that keep you warm, you will have a very special and comfortable night. Your bags are stored safely during your stay as the ice rooms contain only your beds, while other facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, showers and sauna are in the adjacent warm service building to ensure your complete comfort. After this very special experience, rejoin your fellow guests in Alta tomorrow morning.

Day 3 Alta-Tromso: Northern Lights Safari
This morning we leave Alta and drive along the Arctic Fjords to Tromso. Tromso is a university town with a lively atmosphere and friendly locals and some wonderful attractions including the Arctic Cathedral with daring architecture, the Polaria Aquarium (don’t miss the Northern Lights & Spitsbergen Arctic Wilderness films), the Polar Museum where you can learn about the role Tromso has played in Arctic exploration, and the MS Polstjerna, a well preserved sailing vessel from 1949.

Time at leisure to enjoy Tromso before our evening 4 hour guided Northern Lights Safari. The area we visit (depending on weather) may include Kvaloya Island, with its 1,000 metre high mountain, which protects Tromso from the furious Atlantic Ocean, and its dramatic coastline with stunning alpine peaks and beautiful fjords. A light dinner will be enjoyed tonight as part of the safari. 2 nights in Tromso.

Day 4 Tromso Day at Leisure
Day at leisure today, or perhaps enjoy the thrill of Lappish outdoor winter fun, with some great optional excursions- a reindeer safari (7hrs), dog sledding (4hrs) or snowmobiling (7hrs). 2nd overnight in Tromso.
