Lithuania is a small country located on the Baltic sea, with an amazingly diverse landscape from rolling hills and gentle plains, to quietly flowing rivers and lakes which reflect the blueness of the sky. The capital city, Vilnius, is surrounded by picturesque hills and has enormous architectural diversity. Its many churches, towers, fortifications, secluded medieval courtyards and narrow, curved streets are rich in history, with Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical styles standing side-by-side.

The shores of the peninsula on which it is located are washed by the waters of Lakes Galve, Totoriskiu and Bernardinu (Lukos). Set amongst a picturesque landscape, is legendary Trakai Castle - beautifully located on an island in Lake Galve. This cradle of Lithuanian statehood was an important military and political centre, as well as the headquarters of the ruling Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Today, it is a wonderful refuge with walks around the beautiful area or trips on one of the numerous lakes.
